Water
The town of Yarmouth currently has a $30 million septic sludge treatment plant and transport lines in place. The vast majority of the dwellings and businesses in the Hyannis Park area are on septic systems that are viable and Title 5 compliant, regardless of age. Conventional, "non-failing" septic systems, however, were never intended to remove form their effluent nutrients such as nitrogen. These have become recognized as an environmental threat only as our understanding of the impacts of excess nutrients on ecosystems has increased in recent decades.

Fisheries Research Report No. 116 - The Western Rock Lobster Fishery 1993/94 To 1994/95, C F. Chubb, E H. Barker
Fisheries Research Report No. 116 - The Western Rock Lobster Fishery 1993/94 To 1994/95, C F. Chubb, E H. Barker
Fisheries Research Reports
This report is the latest in a series covering the West Coast Rock Lobster Managed Fishery (formerly the West Coast Rock Lobster Limited Entry Fishery), Western Australia’s largest and most valuable fishery. These reports form an historical record of fishery data and information documented season by season for use by industry and research personnel now and in the future. The reports provide information on catch, fishing effort and biology; value of the product and licences; input costs (fuel, bait, etc.); changes in fishing practices, gear, technology and boats and management/legislative changes. By necessity, the information contained herein is summarised from …
Air Quality And Shelterbelts: Odor Mitigation And Livestock Production, A Literature Review, John Tyndall, Joe Colletti
Air Quality And Shelterbelts: Odor Mitigation And Livestock Production, A Literature Review, John Tyndall, Joe Colletti
United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
This literature review is focused on the potential for innovative use of trees and other vegetation to reduce the odor associated with livestock production. The goal is to examine available evidence to assess if trees and shelterbelts may: 1) be able to help control odor through physical and biological means, and 2) be an economically feasible technology for livestock producers as well as surrounding communities.

Water Resources Issues In The Arkansas Delta, Kenneth F. Steele
Water Resources Issues In The Arkansas Delta, Kenneth F. Steele
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
Despite its location in Northwest Arkansas, the Arkansas Water Resources Center (AWRC) is active state-wide. This fact is underscored by the focus of the Center’s session on "Water Resource Issues in the Arkansas Delta" during its recent joint Conference. Water issues in the Delta include declining water tables, salt water intrusion, and water quality (especially suspended sediment, nitrate and pesticides). Presented papers focused on best management practices for cotton production, economics of on-farm reservoirs, chloride content of irrigation water, and landowner education. The AWRC short course was an excellent one on chemical transport in the vadose zone by Dr. Glenn …
The Relationship Of Animal Protection Interests To Animal Damage Management: Historic Paths, Contemporary Concerns And The Uncertain Future, John Hadidian
Conservation Biology and Animal Welfare Collection
More than a decade ago Schmidt (1989) called for consideration of animal welfare to become a "firstorder" decision rule in wildlife management concerns, including animal damage control. Although there has been movement in that direction, this clearly has not yet come to pass. This paper takes a brief look at the interests we call animal damage management, animal welfare and protection, animal rights, and environmentalism in order to speculate about their shared concerns and the uncertain future before them. Since animal damage and the management of that damage cannot be abstracted from the environmental context in which they occur, this …
Agroforestry In The United States: Research And Technology Transfer Needs For The Next Millennium
Agroforestry In The United States: Research And Technology Transfer Needs For The Next Millennium
United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
If society's needs and aspirations for forestderived goods, services, and amenities truely are to be met, we must find ways of augmenting traditional forestry by gleaning some portion of these benefits from agricultural lands. For example: windbreaks, riparian forest buffers, hybrid poplar trees, farm woodlots, and grazing/timber systems.
The Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund In The Great Lakes Region: Assessment And Recommendations, Kirstin Toth, Adina Swirski Wolf
The Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund In The Great Lakes Region: Assessment And Recommendations, Kirstin Toth, Adina Swirski Wolf
All Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Publications
The GLEFC was asked by the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Region 5 brownfields staff to provide an assessment of the viability and implementation of the Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund (BCRLF) by the 12 pilot award recipients in the Region. The purpose of this report is to evaluate the administrative performance of the BCRLF at the 6-state regional level. It should be stressed that this is not an evaluation of the performance of individual pilots. This assessment was intended to be a “snapshot” of the pilot community’s implementation of the BCRLF, and the site visits were all made …
Intelligent Visualization And Automated Processing For Large Scale Geographic Information Systems, Yu Jiang
Intelligent Visualization And Automated Processing For Large Scale Geographic Information Systems, Yu Jiang
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research focuses on developing a new output system that compacts maps in multiple projections into a single Geographic Information System (GIS) without visual errors, through constructing a discrete GIS database that is managed by a Relational Data Base Management System (RDBMS). Unlike in a traditional large GIS database, the data are "physically discrete but logically continuous." In a new discrete GIS database, every map keeps its individuality without a relationship to any other map, and the relationships among the maps are centrally managed by a RDBMS. A study site was chosen at the boundary of the state of Indiana …
