This study evaluates the socioeconomic impacts of the Second Stage of the Southern Nevada Water Project of the United States Bureau of Reclamation, comparing that project with the alternatives of importing water from Nevada areas somewhat removed from the Las Vegas Valley and of leaving the water supply of the Valley basically as it is, the no project alternative.

The study follows, with adaptations and extensions, the general methodology for socioeconomic impact studies as developed and still being evolved in successive socioeconomic analyses of Bureau of Reclamation water projects. Most research on the urban sonic environment has been recent. One finding has been that physical noise exposure indices calibrate poorly with human noise response. The vagaries of human response to noise have given impetus to research to isolate the factors that differentiate human response to noise. The present thesis continues this research.

The thesis specifies human noise response to occur on three levels: awareness, annoyance, and complaint. The factors that structure each level of noise response are identified in the published Iiterature.

The purpose of this study was to develop adequate guidelines whereby those interested in flood control planning would be able to apply a pair of digital computer programs known as the University of Kentucky Flood Control Planning Programs to ease the computational burden of evaluating specific flood control situations. Program II determines the economically optimum combination of channel improvement, land use restriction, and flood proofing for flood damage abatement. Program III also incorporates reservoir storage into the planning process. This report on Antelope Creek, Dead Mans Run, and Middle Creek is the second in a series of flood plain information reports being prepared for streams in the Lincoln, Nebraska metropolitan area. Volume I of this series, published in August 1964, described flood hazard areas of Salt Creek Haines Branch, and Beal Slough.

This Technical Appendix, covering Antelope Creek, Dead Mans Run, and Middle Creek, is presented in four sections. Section A presents information applicable to all three streams. Sections B, C, and D are devoted to information applicable to the individual streams.

Antelope Creek and Dead Mans Run, right bank tributaries of Salt Creek, rise within the Lincoln metropolitan area near the town of Cheney, and 84th and A Streets, respectively. These streams flow in a northwesterly direction and drain 14 and 10.5 square miles, respectively. Middle Creek, a left bank tributary of Salt Creek, rises in eastern Seward County and drains 100 square miles as it flows in an easterly direction to join Salt Creek in Lincoln. Urban development in these valleys is concentrated within the Lincoln city limits. Elsewhere the valleys are rural in character, with the land devoted to …
