Forecasting Locational Marginal Prices In Electricity Markets By Using Artificial Neural Networks, Kim Jay R. Rosano, Allan C. Nerves Dec 2021

Forecasting Locational Marginal Prices In Electricity Markets By Using Artificial Neural Networks, Kim Jay R. Rosano, Allan C. Nerves

Journal of Economics, Management and Agricultural Development

Electricity price forecasting is an important tool used by market players in decision-making and strategizing their participation in the electricity market. In most studies, market-clearing price is forecasted as it gives an aggregated overview of system price. However, locational marginal price (LMP) gives better outlook of the price particular to the customer location in the electrical power grid. This study utilizes Artificial Neural Networks to forecast weekday LMP of generator and load nodes. Various inputs such as historical prices and demand, and temporal indices were used. Using data for selected nodes of the Philippine Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, forecast Mean …

Tanzania Journal of Science

Noise is an environmental disturbance that has harmful effects on the physiological and psychological lives of human beings and animals. This work examined the perceived health implications associated with noise pollution on both genders in Ilorin, Nigeria. It specifically identified the major sources of noise pollution, assessed noise pollution levels in the selected areas and determined the differences in the impacts of noise pollution on the health of both genders in Ilorin. A total of 384 respondents were sampled. Sound Level Meter (SLM) was used to ascertain the levels of noise in the study areas. Descriptive statistics and ANOVA were …

Paleodepositional Environment And Sequence Stratigraphy Of Miocene Sediments In Well Tn-1, Coastal Swamp Depobelt, Niger Delta Basin, Nigeria, Jerry Osokpor, Efetobore G Maju-Oyovwikowhe

Tanzania Journal of Science

This research focused on the interpretation of paleodepositional environment and development of a sequence stratigraphic framework for the well TN-1 section, located in the coastal swamp depositional belt of the Niger Delta Basin. Integration of interpreted litho- and biofacies data sets that facilitated the interpretation of the paleodepositional environment enabled the erection of a sequence-stratigraphic framework. Three lithotypes (sand, clay, and shale) distributed within fourteen facies variants were integrated with palynomorph components to delineate five paleodepositional cycles ranging from distal delta plain to bathyal. Eight systems tracts (closely related to depositional cycles, but transcended depositional boundaries in some intervals) that …

Optimal Design Of Hybrid Renewable Energy For Tanzania Rural Communities, Ester T Marcel, Joseph Mutale, Aviti T Mushi

Tanzania Journal of Science

Rural communities in developing countries lack access to electricity due to high costs of grid extension. This paper proposes a hybrid system of renewable energy (HRES) as solution. The HRES consists of solar, wind, and battery energy storage (BES). The village called Ngw’amkanga in Shinyanga region of Tanzania, East Africa is selected as a case study. An iterative method to determine the size of wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) generation required assuming a project life of 25 years at minimum annualised cost of the system ( ) is proposed. The project life time is fixed on the life span of …

Biodiesel Generation From Palm Kernel Biomass Via An In-Situ Transesterification Approach, Chikaodili D Ikechukwu, Ikhazuagbe H Ifijen, Nyaknno U. Udokpoh

Tanzania Journal of Science

This study investigated an in-situ transesterification of palm kernel biomass at variable reaction times (4 h, 5 h and 6 h) and catalyst loading (2 wt%, 3 wt.% and 5 wt.%). The biodiesel yields were observed to vary with these parameters. GC-MS analysis showed high fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) contents for all the prepared biodiesel samples (C-18:1, C-14:0, C-16:0, and C-18:0). 2 wt.% catalyst loading and 4 h reaction time were observed to be the best reaction conditions from the experimented parameters that gave the best biodiesel yield at 300 rpm mixing intensity. The in-situ method recorded a higher …

Dynamic Relationship Study Between The Observed Seismicity And Spatiotemporal Pattern Of Lineament Changes In Palghar, North Maharashtra (India), Biswajit Nath, Ramesh P. Singh, Vineet K. Gahalaut, Ajay P. Singh

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

The Palghar region (north Maharashtra, India), located in the northwestern part of the stable continental region of India, experienced a low magnitude earthquake swarm, which was initiated in September 2018 and is continuing to date (as of October 2021). From December 2018 to December 2020, ~5000 earthquakes with magnitudes from M1.2 to M3.8 occurred in a small region of 20 × 10 km2. These earthquakes were probably triggered by fluid migration during seasonal rainfall. In this study, we have used multi-temporal Landsat satellite data of the year 2000, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2020, extracted lineaments, and studied the …

Environmental Impacts Of Seawater Desalination On The Marine Environment In The Kingdom Of Bahrain, Waleed Al-Zubari, Alaa Elsadek, Mohamed Khadim Dec 2021

Environmental Impacts Of Seawater Desalination On The Marine Environment In The Kingdom Of Bahrain, Waleed Al-Zubari, Alaa Elsadek, Mohamed Khadim

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

The main water planning and management challenge facing Bahrain is in how to balance water availability and water use on a long-term basis in the face of increasing demands under the least economic and environmental costs and without endangering socio-economic development. To meet escalating municipal water demands desalination is becoming inevitable, which is associated with substantial financial, economic, and environmental costs. In this research, the environmental impact of seawater desalination on the surrounding marine environment is assessed at a government-owned MSF desalination plant (Sitra Power and Water Station (SPWS)). The assessment used a number of environmental indicators, namely temperature and …

Saxs-Based Nano-Scale Pore Structure Characteristics Of Coals With Different Metamorphic Degrees, Zhang Yu, Li Yong, Wang Yanbin, Wang Zhuangsen, Zhao Shihu, Han Wenlong

Coal Geology & Exploration

In order to reveal the characteristics of nano-scale pores in coals with different metamorphic degrees, the small-angle X-ray scattering method (SAXS) is used to obtain the porosity, pore size distribution, specific surface area and fractal dimension of 15 samples whose vitrinite reflectance Rmax is 0.31%-6.24%, and the low temperature CO2 and N2 adsorption DFT model results are used to verify the pore size distribution. The results show: during coalification process, when Rmax is < 0.5%, the porosity and the specific surface area of coal increase with the increase of metamorphic degree, the micropores(< 2 nm) content increases seldomly, the mesoporous(2-50 nm) and microporous(50-100 nm) content increase greatly, and the surface of coal is gradually smooth. When Rmax=0.5%-1.4%, the porosity and the specific surface area decrease, and each type of pore content is reduced, and the surface of …

Case Study On The Effects Of Seismic Exploration Beneath The Goafs Of Different Ages, Zhang Zhao, Yin Quanzeng

Coal Geology & Exploration

With the continuous development of coal resources, the upper group of coal in some coal mines has been mined out, and it is urgent to solve the detection problem of the lower group of coal. Affected by the goaf formed by the upper group of coal, the seismic energy absorption and scattering attenuation of the lower group of coal are significant, and the signal-to-noise ratio of the data is low. The detection of the lower group of coal under the goaf by 3D seismic exploration is still in the exploration stage. In this paper, the 3D seismic exploration project of …
