Elemental Analysis Of Upper Devonian To Lower Mississippian Organic-Rich Mudstone Cores From Kentucky By Portable X-Ray Fluorescence (Pxrf), Alex M. Washburn
KGS Research Data Set
This dataset contains high-density portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) elemental analyses of 1,867 m (6,125 ft) of Upper Devonian to Lower Mississippian organic-rich mudstone cores from Kentucky. Analyses were collected from cores across the Illinois Basin, Cincinnati Arch, and Appalachian Basin to support regional evaluation of elemental variability, chemostratigraphy, and redox-sensitive trace-metal enrichment in Devonian–Mississippian mudstone successions. All measurements were conducted using a Bruker Tracer 5 pXRF analyzer with the factory “Mudrock Air” calibration, using analytical settings optimized for both low-atomic-number elements and transition metals/redox-sensitive trace elements. Reference materials SARM-41 and SGR-1 were analyzed throughout the analytical sequence to monitor instrument …

The Kentucky Microbiome Dataset, Rachel L. Washburn, Douglas C. Curl
Research Data--KGS
The Kentucky Microbiome Dataset is a continuously updated geolocated dataset which describes the distribution and diversity of microorganisms across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Each geolocated point represents a location reported in the peer-reviewed literature where microorganisms were sampled from soil, water, geologic substrates, or clinical settings. Environmental studies include only non-host-associated, non-clinical microorganisms sampled from natural environments. Clinical studies are mapped separately to highlight locations where investigations into host-associated or human health-related microbes have occurred.
For each location, associated metadata include study information, taxonomic classifications, sample type, sampling method, latitude and longitude, sampling date, publication reference, and a direct link …

Kgs Joint Data, Steven L. Martin
Research Data--KGS
Joint orientation measurements collected by KGS personnel at rock exposures from 2009 to 2024. New joint data was collected using a Brunton compass. This data set is a compilation of joints measured by Steve Martin. There are three worksheets related to data structure. The joint location and joint measurement worksheets show a 1-to-many relationship. The 1to1 worksheet shows a 1-to-1 relationship between joint locations and measurements.
Version 2 uploaded December 2024, adding new data to existing set.

Dvgq Joint Data, Steven L. Martin
Research Data--KGS
A compilation of digitally vectorized joint data from the U.S. Geological Survey geologic quadrangle maps. Joint data was collected by USGS and KGS geologists using a compass during geologic mapping of the 7.5-minute quadrangle. Field notes of mappers are not available, therefore the orientation of joints was determined by a script written by KGS personnel during the digitization process.

Data Catalog
The "New Hampshire Continental Shelf Geophysical Database: 2016-2017 Field Campaign - Stations and Sediment Data" contains sediment grain size data from a major field campaign conducted in 2016-2017 and from the UNH Ocean Engineering 972 Hydrographic Field Course classes in 2012, 2014, and 2018. In total, sixteen one-day cruises provided 150 samples for grain size analysis. The database provides complete descriptions for each sample including identification, station and sample characteristics, sediment classifications, grain size statistics, and grain size distribution. Samples were analyzed with standard sieve and pipette analyses after Folk (1980). The sediment grain size classifications include: CMECS (Coastal and …

Data Catalog
The UNH CCOM/JHC "New Hampshire Continental Shelf Historical Geophysical Database: 1971 to 2015 - Sediment Data" contains sediment grain size data and classifications from studies conducted between 1971 and 2015. In total, grain size data was available for 725 bottom sediment samples. Included are sample identification information, station and sample characteristics, sediment classifications, grain size statistics, and grain size distribution. Not all of these parameters were available for every study. Samples were analyzed with standard sieve and pipette analyses after Folk (1980). The sediment grain size classifications include: CMECS (Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard; FGDC, 2012); Gradistat (Blot and …

College of Science Data Sets
This dataset presents data to investigate the change of organic carbon carried by the Lower Mississippi River (LMR) related to river engineering. The dataset includes (1) OSL data, (2) 14C data; (3) the channel centerline of the LMR in the 1970s, (4) the channel centerline of the LMR in 2019, and (5) the migration rates of the LMR between the 1970s and 2019.

Archived Rock Samples From Jane Selverstone's Research Collection, Jane Selverstone
Earth and Planetary Sciences Faculty and Staff Publications
This Excel spreadsheet lists all of the rock samples from Jane Selverstone's research collection that have been archived into the Earth and Planetary Sciences Collections at the University of New Mexico. All samples are listed by original (published) sample number and by an affiliated International GeoSample Number. Samples are grouped by research project, and doi information is given for all publications resulting from work on each project. Rock samples include various combinations of hand specimens, powders, thin sections, and billets from which thin sections were prepared. Information is included to identify the drawers within which each sample can be found …

PetroMode is an Excel spreadsheet that can be used to (1) calculate the modal composition of a rock given the elemental composition of the rock and (2) calculate the major element mass balance to test the derivation of a daughter liquid by removal of minerals from a parent liquid (fractional crystallization).
