Velocity Analysis Method Of Reflected In-Seam Wave Detection Technique, Yang Yanjun, Zhu Shujie, Zhang Xiaowen, Wang Ji

Coal Geology & Exploration

During the excavation of the roadway, using reflected in-seam waves detection technique to explore the structure of roadway and accurately interpret the wave impedance interface is of signality for mine production. The method of detecting the position of faults by reflected in-seam waves is usually inaccurate, which is mainly caused by the selected deviation of reflected in-seam waves velocity. In order to reduce the selected deviation of reflected in-seam waves velocity, this paper analyzed the features of reflected in-seam waves velocity of fifteen coal seam in thirteen coal mines and the velocity relationships of reflected in-seam waves, direct in-seam waves …

Study On Time-Frequency Characteristics And Field Test Of Giant Magnetostrictive Acoustic Wave Seismic Source, Wang Zelun, Gao Hongxin, Yu Shijian, Wang Yongshen

Coal Geology & Exploration

Wide-band, high-power and short-residual acoustic wave sources are the key technology for high-resolution detection of large-scale complex structures, in order to solve the contradiction between detection distance and resolution, a new acoustic wave detection instrument is developed by using the acoustic transmitter made of giant magnetostrictive material(GMM) as the source. The focal center frequency is 5 kHz, and the excitation voltage is 300-600 V, it has the characteristics of large radiated sound power, short residual vibration(3.5 cycles) and frequency band width(1-3 kHz), which solves the problem of the high resolution acoustic wave detection. Its greatest advantage is that the acoustic …

Simulation Of The Cutter Arrangement Pattern Of The Arc Pdc Drill Bit, Ju Pei, Wang Chuanliu Oct 2020

Simulation Of The Cutter Arrangement Pattern Of The Arc Pdc Drill Bit, Ju Pei, Wang Chuanliu

Coal Geology & Exploration

When drilling in a complex heterogeneous formation, due to the limitation of bit crown shape, the cutters of each part of the bit are subjected to non-uniform force, and the cutters at the local location are subjected to large impact load, which lead to the occurrence of bit vortex. In order to solve the problem, a “multi-level force balance” cutter circumferential arrangement scheme is proposed. By establishing the rock breaking finite element simulation model of the bit, the mechanical characteristics of the cutter and the bit under three circumferential cutter distribution modes(clockwise, counterclockwise and “multi-level force balance”) are analyzed. Simulation …

An Update Of Seismic Monitoring And Research In The Vicinity Of The Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant: January 2018–December 2019, Zhenming Wang, N. Seth Carpenter, Edward W. Woolery

Report of Investigations--KGS

From January 2018 to December 2019, the Kentucky Geological Survey monitored earthquakes and conducted research on seismic hazards in the vicinity of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, a former uranium enrichment facility, in McCracken County, western Kentucky. Six hundred forty-four earthquakes with magnitude between 0.5 and 3.7 were recorded in the area during this period. Research focused on the influence of the thick sediments on earthquake ground motion, the so-called site response, through theoretical and data analysis of borehole seismic records. Our research has shown that the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program site classification, which is based on Vs30, and …

Spatial Fingerprint Of Younger Dryas Cooling And Warming In Eastern North America, David Fastovich, James M. Russell, Stephen T. Jackson, Teresa R. Krause, Shaun A. Marcott, John W. Williams

Faculty Authored Articles

The Younger Dryas (YD, 12.9–11.7 ka) is the most recent, near‐global interval of abrupt climate change with rates similar to modern global warming. Understanding the causes and biodiversity effects of YD climate changes requires determining the spatial fingerprints of past temperature changes. Here we build pollen‐based and branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether‐based temperature reconstructions in eastern North America (ENA) to better understand deglacial temperature evolution. YD cooling was pronounced in the northeastern United States and muted in the north central United States. Florida sites warmed during the YD, while other southeastern sites maintained a relatively stable climate. This fingerprint is …

Satellite-Based Monitoring Of Irrigation Water Use: Assessing Measurement Errors And Their Implications For Agricultural Water Management Policy, T. Foster, Taro Mieno, Nicholas Brozovic Oct 2020

Satellite-Based Monitoring Of Irrigation Water Use: Assessing Measurement Errors And Their Implications For Agricultural Water Management Policy, T. Foster, Taro Mieno, Nicholas Brozovic

Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute: Faculty Publications

Reliable accounting of agricultural water use is critical for sustainable water management. However, the majority of agricultural water use is not monitored, with limited metering of irrigation despite increasing pressure on both groundwater and surface water resources in many agricultural regions worldwide. Satellite remote sensing has been proposed as a low-cost and scalable solution to fill widespread gaps in monitoring of irrigation water use in both developed and developing countries, bypassing the technical, socioeconomic, and political challenges that to date have constrained in situ metering. In this paper, we show through a systematic meta-analysis that the relative accuracy of different …
