Response Of Transient Base Level Signals To Erodibility Contrasts In Bedrock Streams, Joshua A. Wolpert
Response Of Transient Base Level Signals To Erodibility Contrasts In Bedrock Streams, Joshua A. Wolpert
LSU Master's Theses
It has long been recognized that bedrock streams gradually adjust their slopes towards topographic steady state, an equilibrium state between rock uplift rate and erosion rate. Tectonic geomorphology studies often analyze stream profiles for clues of this adjustment, which can initiate from changes in tectonic and climatic forcings. The stream power incision model, the most widely utilized framework with which to interpret bedrock stream profiles, predicts that streams perturbed from topographic steady state by changes in bedrock erodibility or uplift rate adjust their slopes to return to topographic steady state through upstream propagating waves of incision, or knickpoints. Under the …

Monitoring Residual Soil Moisture And Its Association To The Long-Term Variability Of Rainfall Over The Upper Blue Nile Basin In Ethiopia, Getachew Ayehu, Tsegaye Tadesse, Berhan Gessesse
National Drought Mitigation Center: Faculty Publications
Monitoring soil moisture and its association with rainfall variability is important to comprehend the hydrological processes and to set proper agricultural water use management to maximize crop growth and productivity. In this study, the European Space Agency’s Climate Change Initiative (ESA CCI) soil moisture product was applied to assess the dynamics of residual soil moisture in autumn (September to November) and its response to the long-term variability of rainfall in the Upper Blue Nile Basin (UBNB) of Ethiopia from 1992 to 2017. The basin was found to have autumn soil moisture (ASM) ranging from 0.09–0.38 m3/m3, …

Geoscience Faculty Research
Here we report on exceptional preservation of remains of the frog Eorubeta nevadensis in deposits of the Sheep Pass Formation, ranging from Late Cretaceous to Eocene, in the south Egan Range, Nevada. This formation represents a lacustrine basin within the Sevier retroarc hinterland. The formation is subdivided into six members (A–F); of interest here are members B and C. The base of member B is ?uppermost Cretaceous-Paleocene, while member C is Paleocene. Member B frogs are preserved in three taphonomic modes. Mode 1 frogs are nearly complete and accumulated under attritional processes, with frogs settling on microbial mats, as evidenced …

Geoscientific Investigations Of Polymetallic Nodules And Host Sediments From The Central Indian Ocean Basin, Chris Pesso
Geoscientific Investigations Of Polymetallic Nodules And Host Sediments From The Central Indian Ocean Basin, Chris Pesso
Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal Theses and Dissertations
This report embodies the results of the research carried out on the polymetallic nodules, host sediments and pumice of the Central Indian Ocean Basin (CIOB). An extensive study has been conducted to best describe the morphological, geotechnical (water content, porosity, density, etc.), mineralogical and geochemical properties of the CIOB nodules and pumice. Morphological aspects of nodules such as size, shape, surface texture and their variations have been studied in detail. An attempt was made to classify the CIOB pumice based on their shape by applying Zingg’s method and Sneed and Folks method. The physical properties of the host sediments were …
A Process-Based Approach To Evaluating The Role Of Organic Ligands In Trace Metal Cycling In The Marine Environment, Travis Mellett
A Process-Based Approach To Evaluating The Role Of Organic Ligands In Trace Metal Cycling In The Marine Environment, Travis Mellett
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In addition to control by major nutrient elements (nitrogen, phosphorous, and silicon) growth and community composition of marine phytoplankton is also regulated by trace element nutrients (iron, copper, manganese, zinc, cobalt, nickel, and cadmium). Of these, iron is the most influential in the modern ocean, regulating phytoplankton growth and carbon export in high-nutrient low-chlorophyll regimes and exerting an important control on the marine nitrogen cycle through its role in di-nitrogen fixation. The distributions of these metals has the capacity to control primary production and phytoplankton community composition through differences in cellular quotas or metal sensitivities amongst species. The relationship between …
