Automated Classification Of Pectinodon Bakkeri Teeth Images Using Machine Learning, Jacob A. Bahn
Automated Classification Of Pectinodon Bakkeri Teeth Images Using Machine Learning, Jacob A. Bahn
MS in Computer Science Project Reports
Microfossil dinosaur teeth are studied by paleontologists in order to better under- stand dinosaurs. Currently, tooth classification is a long, manual, error-ridden process. Deep learning offers a solution that allows for an automated way of classifying images of these microfossil teeth. In this thesis, we aimed to use deep learning in order to develop an automated approach for classifying images of Pectinodon bakkeri teeth. The proposed model was trained using a custom topology and it classified the images based on clusters created via K-Means. The model had an accuracy of 71%, a precision of 71%, a recall of 70.5%, and …
Fake News Detection Using Natural Language Processing, Fabiolla Mayrink Costa, Rael Guimaraes
Fake News Detection Using Natural Language Processing, Fabiolla Mayrink Costa, Rael Guimaraes
ICT
Nowadays with the advance of technologies we have vast access to any sort of information. We are able to use our phone/computer to access the news of any part of the world. It is great to keep us informed about everything that is happening around the world. It is also a powerful tool used for companies while making strategic business decisions. The biggest issue is that technology can and is being used to manipulate people/companies by propagating fake news. Fake news can mislead people's perceptions while forming opinions on a determined subject. It can also have a big impact on …
Predicting The Effects Of Climate Change On Irish Agriculture, Rodrigo Matsumoto, Sarah Kuprian Carrinho
Predicting The Effects Of Climate Change On Irish Agriculture, Rodrigo Matsumoto, Sarah Kuprian Carrinho
ICT
The impact of climate change on agriculture is a growing concern worldwide, and Ireland is no exception. The purpose of this project is to use machine learning techniques to predict the effects of climate change on Irish agriculture and identify strategies for adaptation and mitigation. The project uses the Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM) methodology to guide the data analysis process, MoSCoW prioritization to identify the most critical needs, and SWOT analysis to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats our project may encounter. Historical temperature data for Ireland and Dublin will be used as our data sources. …
Humanizing Computational Literature Analysis Through Art-Based Visualizations, Alexandria Leto
Humanizing Computational Literature Analysis Through Art-Based Visualizations, Alexandria Leto
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Inequalities in gender representation and characterization in fictional works are issues that have long been discussed by social scientists. This work addresses these inequalities with two interrelated components. First, it contributes a sentiment and word frequency analysis task focused on gender-specific nouns and pronouns in 15,000 fictional works taken from the online library, Project Gutenberg. This analysis allows for both quantifying and offering further insight on the nature of this disparity in gender representation. Then, the outcomes of the analysis are harnessed to explore novel data visualization formats using computational and studio art techniques. Our results call attention to the …
Fine-Grained Detection Of Hate Speech Using Bertoxic, Yakoob Khan
Fine-Grained Detection Of Hate Speech Using Bertoxic, Yakoob Khan
Dartmouth College Undergraduate Theses
This thesis describes our approach towards the fine-grained detection of hate speech using deep learning. We leverage the transformer encoder architecture to propose BERToxic, a system that fine-tunes a pre-trained BERT model to locate toxic text spans in a given text and utilizes additional post-processing steps to refine the prediction boundaries. The post-processing steps involve (1) labeling character offsets between consecutive toxic tokens as toxic and (2) assigning a toxic label to words that have at least one token labeled as toxic. Through experiments, we show that these two post-processing steps improve the performance of our model by 4.16% on …
Mass Incarceration In Nebraska: Data And Historical Analysis Of Inmates From 1980-2020, Anna Krause
Mass Incarceration In Nebraska: Data And Historical Analysis Of Inmates From 1980-2020, Anna Krause
Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)
This study examines Nebraska Department of Corrections inmate data from 1980-2020, looking specifically at inmate demographics and offense trends. State-of-the-art data analysis is conducted to collect, modify, and visualize the data sources. Inmates are organized by each decade they were incarcerated within. The current active prison population is also examined in their own research group. The demographic and offense trends are compared with previous local and national research. Historical context is given for evolving trends in offenses. Solutions for Nebraska prison overcrowding are presented from various interest groups. This study aims to enlighten all interested Nebraskans on who inhabits their …
Statistical And Machine Learning Approaches To Depressive Disorders Among Adults In The United States: From Factor Discovery To Prediction Evaluation, Minhwa Lee
Senior Independent Study Theses
According to the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH), depressive disorders (or major depression) are considered one of the most common and serious health risks in the United States. Our study focuses on extracting non-medical factors of depressive disorders diagnosis, such as overall health states, health risk behaviors, demography, and healthcare access, using the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data set collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2018.
We set the two objectives of our study about depressive disorders diagnosis in the United States as follows. First, we aim to utilize machine learning algorithms …
Analysis Of Github Pull Requests, Canon Ellis
Analysis Of Github Pull Requests, Canon Ellis
Computer Science and Engineering Theses and Dissertations
The popularity of the software repository site GitHub has created a rise in the Pull Based Development Models' use. An essential portion of pull-based development is the creation of Pull Requests. Pull Requests often have to be reviewed by an individual to be approved and accepted into the Master branch of a software repository. The reviewing process can often be time-consuming and introduce a relatively high level of lost development time. This paper examines thousands of pull requests to understand the most valuable metadata of pull requests. We then introduce metrics in comparing the metadata of pull requests to understand …
