The fruit of the coconut tree is perhaps the most useful plant resource in the tropics. All parts of the coconut fruit have traditional uses that have been developed commercially in recent times (Foale 2003, Dayrit and Dayrit 2013). Due to its widespread household use, trade and industry statistics on coconut products reflect only part of the actual importance of the coconut. The treatment of allylic alcohols as synthons of carbanions for carbonyl allylation reactions in the presence of a Pd-SnCl2 system has been one of the most interesting and most useful developments demonstrated by Yoshiro Masuyama and co-workers in the field of organic synthesis. The reaction makes use of palladium as an effective catalyst and tin (II) chloride as a low-valent reducing agent which also effectively transforms the allylic group to a nucleophilic group. Content Analysis Of The Discussion Of The Atom In General Chemistry Textbooks Using Evaluation Criteria Based On The Nature Of Science And Philosophy Of Chemistry, Armando M. Guidote Jr, Angelo Julian E. Perez, Gilbert U. Yu, Michael Ner E. Mariano

Evaluation criteria are adapted from previous textbook analyses on the nature of science (NOS) in general chemistry textbooks. These criteria are used to determine how certain NOS dimensions are mentioned and elaborated in those textbooks. Such dimensions emphasize that chemistry is (1) tentative, (2) empirical, (3) model-based, (4) inferential, (5) has technological products, (6) employs instrumentation, and (7) possesses social and societal dimensions. Three book chapters were read and evaluated: the first (on chemistry in general); the second (on atomic structure); and the sixth or seventh chapters (on the electronic structure of atoms). Nanotechnology is a highly interdisciplinary field, with contributions from all fields: physics, chemistry, biology, materials science, engineering, and others. The explosive number of publications in this field makes it nearly impossible to give an extensive review even in chemistry alone. Nonetheless, one may track its emergence and rapid advancement from the point of view of a chemist's. This paper aims to provide a conceptual overview of chemistry for nanotechnology, a brief classification of different approaches and applications, together with some sample cases.

This study aims to gain more insight into the supramolecular structure of the cellulose in nata de coco, and to compare its ability to be modified with the known types of cellulose. The investigations were done using IR spectroscopy and thennal analysis. The IR spectra of microcrystalline cellulose were identical to cellulose spectra. However, those of dried nata de coco cellulose showed additional peaks that indicated a loss of inter- and intra-sheet hydrogen bonding, usually extensive in other cellulose forms where sheets are the prevalent secondary structures.
