Herein is reported the synthesis of two Au(III) complexes bearing the (R,R)-(–)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxaline (R,R-QuinoxP*) or (S,S)-(+)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxaline (S,S-QuinoxP*) ligands. By reacting two stoichiometric equivalents of HAuCl4.3H2O to one equivalent of the corresponding QuinoxP* ligand, (R,R)-(–)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxalinedichlorogold(III) tetrachloroaurates(III) (1) and (S,S)-(+)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxalinedichlorogold(III) tetrachloroaurates(III) (2) were formed, respectively, in moderate yields. The structure of (S,S)-(+)-2,3-Bis(tert-butylmethylphosphino)quinoxalinedichlorogold(III) tetrachloroaurates(III) (2) was further confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The antiproliferative activities of the two compounds were evaluated in a panel of cell lines and exhibited promising results comparable to auranofin and cisplatin with …

Photochemical Properties And Structure-Activity Relationships Of RuIi Complexes With Pyridylbenzazole Ligands As Promising Anticancer Agents, Dmytro Havrylyuk, David K. Heidary, Leona Nease, Sean Parkin, Edith C. Glazer Mar 2017

Photochemical Properties And Structure-Activity Relationships Of RuIi Complexes With Pyridylbenzazole Ligands As Promising Anticancer Agents, Dmytro Havrylyuk, David K. Heidary, Leona Nease, Sean Parkin, Edith C. Glazer

Ruthenium complexes capable of light‐triggered cytotoxicity are appealing potential prodrugs for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photoactivated chemotherapy (PACT). Two groups of (polypyridyl)RuII complexes with 2‐(2‐pyridyl)benzazole ligands were synthesized and investigated for their photochemical properties and anticancer activity to compare strained and unstrained systems that are likely to have different biological mechanisms of action. The structure–activity relationship was focused on the benzazole‐core bioisosterism and replacement of coligands in RuII complexes. Strained compounds rapidly ejected the 2‐(2‐pyridyl)benzazole ligand after light irradiation, and possessed strong toxicity in the HL‐60 cell line both under dark and light conditions. In contrast, unstrained Ru …

Coumarin is a natural product found in many plants. Recently, simple coumarin analogues containing an α-methylene functional group have been synthesized and shown to exhibit cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines. The α,β-unsaturated carbonyl found in these analogues is thought to be responsible for their bioactivity. Other natural products containing this functional group have been shown to react with intracellular thiols causing tumor growth suppression. Using these analogues as a template, two new compounds have been designed that feature a novel α-methylene indanone structural framework. Since ketones are better electrophiles that esters, it is hypothesized that these analogues will react more …

As state universities feel economic pinches of reduced support from state legislatures, and as sources of federal funding for supported research projects face additional challenges, other sources of support need to be found. Two sources under consideration are royalties and licensing fees for successful patents. A good example of a successful developer of patents was Jonas Kamlet, Ph.D. (1914‐1960), who was an early consultant in chemical and other matters and was the successful co-owner, with his wife Edna, of the Kamlet Laboratories. The roles that he played in his career can, we believe, provide good examples for contemporary researchers in …

Knoevenagel condensation of 2-formyl-octamethylcalix[4]pyrrole with selected 1,3-indanedione derivatives yields calix[4]pyrrole anion sensors with push-pull chromophores displaying strong intramolecular charge transfer. The push-pull feature results in augmented signal output as well as in dramatic changes in anion selectivity exemplified by a 50-fold increase in acetate vs chloride selectivity compared to the parent calix[4]pyrrole.

Possible Cobalt-Cobalt Bridging By A Hemiacetal In The Dinuclear Cobalt Complex Bearing The Ligand Bis(3-(2-Pyridylmethyleneamino)Phenyl) Sulfone, Armando M. Guidote Jr, Tomoko Imajo, Yasuhiko Kurusu, Yoshiro Masuyama Jan 2003

Possible Cobalt-Cobalt Bridging By A Hemiacetal In The Dinuclear Cobalt Complex Bearing The Ligand Bis(3-(2-Pyridylmethyleneamino)Phenyl) Sulfone, Armando M. Guidote Jr, Tomoko Imajo, Yasuhiko Kurusu, Yoshiro Masuyama

A dinuclear cobalt complex bearing the ligand bis(3-(2-pyridylmethyleneamino)phenyl) sulfone (BPMAPS) was prepared. It is proposed that the structure of this is [Coz(BPMAPS)(m-0AcMhemi-Et)]PF6 wherein the cobalt centers are bridged by two carboxylato groups in m-fashion and a hemiacetal with an ethoxy group (hemi-Et). This proposal is based on the similarity of the FT-IR, UV-Vis, and FAB-MS results with the crystallographically characterized dinuclear manganese complex [Mn2(BPMAPS)(m-OAcMhemi-Me)]PF6, and elemental analysis results.

Novel β-polyfluoroalkoxy vinamidinium salts 3 and/or 4 were synthesized in good yields by the reaction of N-(2- polyfluoroalkoxy-3 ,3-difluoro-1-propenyI)trimethylammonium iodides (2), prepared from N-(2,3,3-trifluoro-1-propenyl)trimethylammonium iodide (1), with secondary amines in MeCN at 70 °C for 1 h. The salts were also obtainable in comparable yields by the one-pot reaction of 1 with sodium polyfluoroalkoxide followed by treatment with amines.
