Long-Term Resilience Simulation On Low-Carbon Urban Grid Based On Evolutionary Game, Zhengda Cui, Weiqiang Yao, Qin Xu, Chen Fang, Ying Chen

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Because of the more frequent extreme disasters, the resilience of urban grid becomes more important. In the background of carbon neutralization policy, the decarbonization transition of urban grid also affects the development of grid resilience. An evolutionary game is used to simulate the resilience evolution of low-carbon urban grid and the evolution model is constructed. The decision to install photovoltaic and energy storage system for residents and to upgrade the grid for resilience is considered in the model and the stability conditions of equilibriums of the evolutionary game are analyzed. The resilience evolution simulation model considering disaster stochasticity is …

What Spatial Environments Mean, Thora Tenbrink Jul 2021

What Spatial Environments Mean, Thora Tenbrink

Journal of Spatial Information Science

Language is one of the most prominent means of representing human thought. Spatial cognition research has made use of this fact for decades, exploring how humans perceive and understand their spatial environments through language analysis. So far, this research has mainly focused on generic cognitive aspects underlying everyday purposes such as knowing where objects are, how they relate to each other, and how to find one's way to a familiar or unfamiliar location. However, human concepts about space can be threatened by change, as the environment changes. Across the globe, people become increasingly aware of climate-change related threats to their …

Resilience Analysis And Evaluation Of Combat System Of Systems Architecture Based On Dynamic Super Network, Rong Ming, Xiaofeng Hu, Jingyu Yang Dec 2019

Resilience Analysis And Evaluation Of Combat System Of Systems Architecture Based On Dynamic Super Network, Rong Ming, Xiaofeng Hu, Jingyu Yang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The resilience of combat architecture is a kind of adaptability and recovery ability presented by the architecture when the combat system of systems (CSoS) faces destruction, attack and failure. It has become an important index to measure the capability of CSoS. The dynamic super network model is established by mapping the experimental data of CSoS resilience simulation. The resilience index of CSoS architecture is proposed and the resilience measure CSoSIR algorithm is designed. Based on the resilience analysis framework of competitive game, the CSoS architecture resilience is analyzed and evaluated.

Detecting Change: Observations Of Temperature And Precipitation Across Virginia’S Climate Divisions, Jeremy S. Hoffman, Michael J. Allen, Christopher F. Labosier Apr 2019

Detecting Change: Observations Of Temperature And Precipitation Across Virginia’S Climate Divisions, Jeremy S. Hoffman, Michael J. Allen, Christopher F. Labosier

Virginia Journal of Science

Modern global climate change is primarily attributable to human activities and the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Climate change impacts span a range of sectors, including agriculture, forestry, public health, and water resource management. The Commonwealth of Virginia has already and will continue to deal with many of these impacts, yet lacks concentrated effort to detect, document, and adapt to local climate changes. This study documents observed changes in temperature and precipitation across Virginia’s six climate divisions. Mean seasonal anomalies of minimum temperature, maximum temperature, and precipitation from 1986 to 2016 are examined relative to a long-term 1895-2000 …

Research On Assessment Of Operation System‘S Resilience Based On Test Bed, Rong Ming, Xiaofeng Hu, Jingyu Yang Jan 2019

Research On Assessment Of Operation System‘S Resilience Based On Test Bed, Rong Ming, Xiaofeng Hu, Jingyu Yang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The warfare under the information condition is the System of Systems (SOS) combat. The resilience of SOS is the ability to support the functions necessary for mission success with higher probability, shorter periods of reduced capability, and across a wider range of scenarios, conditions, and threats, in spite of hostile action or adverse conditions. It has gradually become a focus in developed countries. The problems of SOS resilience evaluation are analyzed and a analysis method under test bed simulation is constructed. By meaning of integrity, dynamic and confrontation, we propose resilience assessment models to evaluate resilience by competitive game and …

Protecting Energy Infrastructure Against The Uncertainty Of Future Climate Change: A Real Options Approach, Thomas Prime, Karyn Morrissey, Jennifer M. Brown, Andrew J. Plater Jun 2018

Protecting Energy Infrastructure Against The Uncertainty Of Future Climate Change: A Real Options Approach, Thomas Prime, Karyn Morrissey, Jennifer M. Brown, Andrew J. Plater

Journal of Ocean and Coastal Economics

The coastal impacts of climate change, including flooding and erosion due to storms and sea-level rise, and the possible adaptation responses have been studied using very different approaches; from very detailed site-specific, process-based investigations and interventions to global macroeconomic assessments of coastal zone vulnerability. This paper presents a flood defense real option analysis methodology that values potential investment decisions made in the building and maintaining of flood defenses around electricity infrastructure at local spatial scales for a large region. Real option analysis embraces uncertainty in future climate conditions and flexibility in the management of investment projects to produce a more …

Resilience As Experienced By Environmental Educators, Kelly Henderson, Timothy S. O'Connell Jan 2010

Resilience As Experienced By Environmental Educators, Kelly Henderson, Timothy S. O'Connell

Research in Outdoor Education

This study examined resilience as experienced by environmental educators in the face of growing environmental adversity. Through in-depth interviews, this hermeneutical study sheds light on the environmental factors and internal competencies that contribute to resilience in seven environmental educators. Additionally, the interaction between these factors and competencies (known as the person/environment transactional process) is explored. Kumpfer's (1999) Resilience Framework provides the organizational framework for the results of this study.
