Similarity Based Approximate Reasoning., Swapan Raha Dr.
Similarity Based Approximate Reasoning., Swapan Raha Dr.
Doctoral Theses
Many years of research in Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science and allied area reveal that the cognitive process of human reasoning deals with imprecise premises. As cognitive process of human reasoning is mainly concerned with the individual's perception, it is liable to be imprecise in nature. Precise traditional two-valued logic and/or multi-valued logics are not effective in handling such reasoning processes. This motivated Zadeh (109) to investigate how these impreciseness in human rea- soning could be modeled through some computable entities. In this regard, Zadeh has shown how such imprecise linguistic terms could be expressed through fuzzy sets over universes of …
On Measuring The Cost Of Children:The Case Of Rural Maharashtra., Manisha Chakrabarty Dr.
On Measuring The Cost Of Children:The Case Of Rural Maharashtra., Manisha Chakrabarty Dr.
Doctoral Theses
In this dissertation we have attempted to measure the cost of children, which plays a crucial role in matters relating to welfare and public policy like child benefits and compensation policies of the government. The cost is measured based on the single equation as well as the systems approach using the 38th round National Sample Survey (NSS) data on household consumer expenditure for rural Maharashtra (relating to the period of January to December, 1983).The first chapter provides a brief account of the basic literature on empirical demand analysis which is relevant for welfare comparison between households. To be specific in …
Neuro Fuzzy Reasoning For Pattern Classification And Object Recognition., Jayati Ghosh Dr.
Neuro Fuzzy Reasoning For Pattern Classification And Object Recognition., Jayati Ghosh Dr.
Doctoral Theses
In real world, pattern classification and object recognition problems are faced with fuzzi- ness that is connected with diverse facets of cognitive activity of the human being. An origin of sources of fuzziness is related to labels expressed in feature space as well as to labels of classes taken into account in classification and /or recognition procedures. Though a lot of scientific efforts have already been dedicated to pattern recognition problems, especially to classification procedures, still pattern recognition is confronted with a continuous challenge coming from a human being who can perform lot of ex- tremely complex classification tasks by …

The article uses the author’s experiences from the event of Siggraph ‘95 to comment on upcoming products using virtual or augmented reality. The article includes further discussion on the products’ effects on the psychology and physiology of consumers. Some examples include the “i-Glasses” from Virtual I/O, the “Smart Model” from Multigen, as well as the nanomanipulator created by University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Department of Computer Science, and the Phobia Project developed by the Georgia Tech Graphics Visualization and Usability Center. The article also covers not only the products of this event, but also the courses, panels, papers, and …

On Lexical And Syntactic Processing Of Bangla Language By Computer., Probal Sengupta Dr.
Doctoral Theses
A distinctive intelligent trait of human beings is the ability to carry out meaningful communication through language. The communication may be direct as in spoken conversation or indirect as in written form, through the audio-visual media, etc. Linguistic ability in humans have fascinated scholars ever since man first learnt to use language. Linguistics, the branch of study involved in studying the nature of human linguistic communication, is perhaps as old as language itself. The invention of the computer added a new dimension to linguistics. Making the computer emu- late human linguistic behaviour was taken up as a challenge by computer …
Dual Pricing: Theory And Applications., Shikha Jha Dr.
Dual Pricing: Theory And Applications., Shikha Jha Dr.
Doctoral Theses
Even after thirty five yaara of planned economic develogment a large fraction of people in India cannot afford to have the basic necessities Like food, clothing and shelter. To quote from the Econonic Survey [1984-85), Buoyant agricultural parformance thus far has dependad mainly upon production gains in wheat and rice. Performance with raspect to other critical crops, such as pulser and oilseeds, and dryland farning generally, remains veak. The rate of growth of industry, although somewhat higher than in the ten years preceding the sixth Plan, remains low... population continues to grow at about 2 percent per year. At this …

A Quantitative Analysis Of Poverty, Inequality And Consumer Behaviour: The Case Of The Schedule Casts And Tribes Of Karnataka., Shailaja Raghuprasad Dr.
Doctoral Theses
The concept of growth with social justice is basic to the philosophy of development underlying Indian economic Planning. This philosophy is reflected in our former Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi's foreword to the sixth Plan (1980-85) document where she wrote, Economic Growth must be balanced, it must ensure self - reliance, stability and social justice. All sections should be assured that there will be no discrimination'.It is with those weaker sections - rather a segment of them that this study is concerned, Our study is an attempt to look closely at the levels of living and the consumer behaviour of …

Statistical Models For Consumer Behaviour In India., Amita Majumder Dr.
Statistical Models For Consumer Behaviour In India., Amita Majumder Dr.
Doctoral Theses
The present dissertation is about analysis of consumer behaviour ba sed on time-serios consumption data in the framework of a static complete demand system with special reference to India. On the methodological side, the the proposes two station demand systems. One of them is based on a modification of the Simple Non-additivo Model (SNAM) of Deaton (1976) - a generalisation of Stone's Linear Expenditure System (LES) - that overcomes the limitations of the LES ariaing from the additivity of its underfying direct preference structure. The other system is based on the Frice Independent Generalized Linearity (FIGL) of Maellbaucr (1975). Both the …

Doctoral Theses
Studies on consumer behavicur : 4 surveyThis Chapter briefly reviews the methodology, implications and limitations of various approaches to empirical demand analysis and also sunmarises the important Indian contributions to this branch of econo- metric applications. The Hicks-Allen theory of consumer equil ibrium has been outlined first to indicate the nature of empirically ob servable restrictione that ensure consistent consumer behaviour in an essentially static world deal- ing solely with non-durable oommodities. The role of the assumption of separability of the utility function in quantitative applications has al so been stressed here. Finally, the sope and limitation of this theory has …
