Sparse Transformer For Anomaly Detection In Mobile Crowdsensing, Sanjeev Shrestha
Sparse Transformer For Anomaly Detection In Mobile Crowdsensing, Sanjeev Shrestha
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Mobile Crowdsensing (MCS) is a sensing paradigm that leverages mobile devices to conduct a large-scale data collection. However, due to its openness and mobility nature, it is highly vulnerable to security issues such as injection attacks of malicious workers and fake tasks that can severely affect the platform’s normal functioning. To address this problem, the arrival of workers and task submission process is represented as a multivariate time series, and a two-stage framework is proposed. In the first step, we propose a novel transformer-based model, DozerAnomaly, that can efficiently detect anomalies in multivariate time series. We integrated a sparse attention …

Efficient Task Scheduling In Cloud Infrastructures Using Dynamic Score-Based Allocation And Deep Q-Learning, Shadman Sakib
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
Cloud computing has grown rapidly in recent years, mainly due to the sharp increase in data transferred over the internet. This growth makes task scheduling a key and challenging part of cloud systems, as it helps distribute user requests across servers to minimize response time, prevent overloading, and ensure smooth user experience. This thesis proposes two novel approaches for dynamic task scheduling in cloud environments. First, a novel Score-Based Dynamic Load Balancing (SBDLB) strategy is developed, which leverages system parameters to allocate tasks efficiently across virtual machines (VMs) in data centers. SBDLB ensures balanced workload distribution by continuously evaluating VM …

Thyroid Carcinoma Recurrence Prediction Using Artificial Intelligence On Prognosis Parameter, Supawat Suntornlimsiri
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common subtype of thyroid malignancy and is increasingly diagnosed worldwide. Although typically localised, PTC exhibits a notable risk of bilateral involvement, with contralateral disease occurring in up to 44 percent of cases. While completion thyroidectomy is recommended in selected high-risk scenarios, it carries potential complications, making accurate prediction of contralateral involvement essential. This study investigates the utility of classical statistical methods and machine learning (ML) algorithms—Support Vector Machines (SVM), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Random Forest (RF)—in predicting contralateral PTC using a retrospective dataset of 122 lobectomy patients. ML models, especially RF with …

Neural-Network Based K-Value Prediction In Clustering Problems Without Distance Computation, Rohhan Rabari
Neural-Network Based K-Value Prediction In Clustering Problems Without Distance Computation, Rohhan Rabari
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Clustering remains a pivotal component of unsupervised learning, central to tasks such as data exploration and pattern discovery. However, most conventional clustering algorithms are parametric in nature, requiring one or more parameters to be specified in advance—most notably the number of clusters (k). These predefined parameters can drastically alter the outcome of clustering, leading to unstable or misleading results, particularly when the true structure of the data is unknown. This thesis introduces a novel framework that transforms raw input into a latent vector representation, enabling a neural network to automatically predict the optimal number of clusters without any prior parameter …

Robust Palm Print For Mobile Authentication System, Son Nguyen
Robust Palm Print For Mobile Authentication System, Son Nguyen
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Smartphones are gateways to financial, health, and personal data; consequently, mobile authentication must be accurate, fast, privacy-preserving, and scalable. This thesis presents an end-to-end palmprint authentication framework that addresses a practical trilemma: label-efficient learning, on-device efficiency, and cloud-scale identification. We pretrain a ResNet-18 encoder with self-supervised contrastive learning on unlabeled palm images, distill its representation to a lightweight MobileNetV3 student for real-time inference on phones, and support both 1:1 on-device verification and 1:N cloud identification using FAISS/HNSW. On public datasets, the system attains 99.2% accuracy, a 0.15% equal-error rate (EER), and ~87 ms end-to-end latency on iPhone-class hardware. FAISS scales …
Data-Driven Predictive Model For Various Shapes Of Gold Nanoparticle Synthesis Based On Self-Organizing Maps, Thanapol Khamhla
Data-Driven Predictive Model For Various Shapes Of Gold Nanoparticle Synthesis Based On Self-Organizing Maps, Thanapol Khamhla
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This work presents a machine learning framework that simultaneously classifies the shape and predicts the localised surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) wavelength of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) purely from synthesis conditions. The dataset used to train the model consist of synthesis conditions and the corresponding AuNPs characteristics, including spherical, star, plate, and rod shapes with their measured LSPR wavelengths, were compiled from existing literatures. Our model first classifies synthesis conditions into clusters according to their resulting shape and then builds local regression models for each shape, enabling both classification and quantitative prediction within a single framework. The proposed model integrates the clustering …

Heat Treatment Of Basaltic-Related Sapphire From Binh Thuan Deposit, Southern Vietnam, Yuparat Kwangsawat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Characteristics of basalt-related sapphires from Binh Thuan in Southern Vietnam were investigated before and after heat treatment. Samples were divided into four group, based on their color and hue including dark blue, blue, greenish blue, and bluish green. After being heated at 700-1000°C, sapphires' blue hue faded noticeably. Blue color turned to be intensified when heated at 1650°C. Subsequently, beryllium-assisted heating by a local professional gem treater was introduced to these sapphire samples which in turn yielded yellow to yellowish-blue hues. Color changes after heating are conclusively involved by trace compositions of sapphire and temperatures of heating. The appropriate treatment …

Executive Summary: Quantifying interactive effects among multiple stressors is important for understanding cumulative impacts on seagrasses, which is imperative for informing the appropriate management of marine ecosystems. To date, many thresholds used to understand seagrass response to dredging are based on singular stressors, such as light reduction or burial, but these pressures often occur simultaneously. Understanding the impacts of multiple stressors, which may act additively, synergistically or antagonistically, could require adjustment of existing single pressure derived thresholds. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), characterized by the presence of hemoglobin (Hb) in the subarachnoid space, significantly impacts cerebral vessels, leading to various pathological outcomes. The toxicity of cell-free Hb released from erythrocytes and its metabolites after SAH causes vasoconstriction and neuronal damage, and correlates with delayed ischemic neurological deficits (DIND). While animal models have provided substantial and invaluable data in the research of aneurysmal SAH, the specific effects of subarachnoid blood on cerebral arteries remain greatly understudied. Here, we describe the changes in the genetic profile of human cerebral arteries exposed to free Hb for 48 h. We performed an ex …

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant brain tumor with an abysmal prognosis. Since complete tumor cell removal is impossible due to the infiltrative nature of GBM, accurate measurement is paramount for GBM assessment. Preoperative magnetic resonance images (MRIs) are crucial for initial diagnosis and surgical planning, while follow-up MRIs are vital for evaluating treatment response. The structural changes in the brain caused by surgical and therapeutic measures create significant differences between preoperative and follow-up MRIs. In clinical research, advanced deep learning models trained on preoperative MRIs are often applied to assess follow-up scans, but their effectiveness in this …
