Heuristic Algorithm-Based Estimation Of Rotor Resistance Of An Induction Machine By Slot Parameters With Experimental Verification, Mehmet Çelebi̇, Murat Tören
Heuristic Algorithm-Based Estimation Of Rotor Resistance Of An Induction Machine By Slot Parameters With Experimental Verification, Mehmet Çelebi̇, Murat Tören
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The estimations of induction machine equivalent circuit parameters are still being widely used in the analysis and in determining the characteristics of the machine. Since the most important part of the machine is the rotor where torque is produced, the calculation of rotor resistance correctly will directly affect all other data. Almost all parameters belonging to the stator side can easily be determined through external measurements. However, due to the formulation of the rotor as a closed box, estimating rotor resistance and the rotor's slot shape by heuristic algorithms, without damaging the rotor physically, and comparing it with its actual …
A Novel Wound Field Flux Switching Machine With Salient Pole Rotor And Nonoverlapping Windings, Faisal Khan, Erwan Sulaiman, Md Zarafi Ahmad
A Novel Wound Field Flux Switching Machine With Salient Pole Rotor And Nonoverlapping Windings, Faisal Khan, Erwan Sulaiman, Md Zarafi Ahmad
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
A flux switching machine (FSM) with a segmented rotor and nonoverlapping windings is an attractive alternative for driving high torque density applications. However, a rotor with segments makes the motor less robust as well as difficult to be assembled, while a FSM with salient rotor and overlapping windings inherits high copper losses and less efficiency due to high coil volume. In this paper, a novel structure of FSM with nonoverlapping windings and salient rotor is proposed, making it different from the 10Slot-8Pole segmental and salient rotor FSM. Several design parameters defined in the rotor, armature coil, and field excitation coil …
On The Performance Of Newsworthy Meta-Heuristic Algorithms Based On Point Of View Fuzzy Modelling, Ci̇han Karakuzu
On The Performance Of Newsworthy Meta-Heuristic Algorithms Based On Point Of View Fuzzy Modelling, Ci̇han Karakuzu
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Heuristic algorithms are used for optimizing a large diversity of engineering problems. In this study, the performance of six commonly used and cited meta-heuristic algorithms (MhAs) is compared based on point of view fuzzy modelling. In this study, the simplest version of MhAs is specifically used to observe and evaluate their natural optimization performances. For the comparisons, dynamic system modelling using a neuro-fuzzy system (NFS) was studied. Obtained results were evaluated based on commonly used statistical metrics, and then each algorithm was ranked according to these metrics. Based on the computed average ranks, the best MhA among the six MhAs …

Agent-based models (ABMs) have become an increasingly important mode of inquiry for the life sciences. They are particularly valuable for systems that are not understood well enough to build an equation-based model. These advantages, however, are counterbalanced by the difficulty of analyzing and using ABMs, due to the lack of the type of mathematical tools available for more traditional models, which leaves simulation as the primary approach. As models become large, simulation becomes challenging. This paper proposes a novel approach to two mathematical aspects of ABMs, optimization and control, and it presents a few first steps outlining how one might …
Genetic Algorithm For University Course Timetabling Problem, Achini Kumari Herath
Genetic Algorithm For University Course Timetabling Problem, Achini Kumari Herath
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Creating timetables for institutes which deal with transport, sport, workforce, courses, examination schedules, and healthcare scheduling is a complex problem. It is difficult and time consuming to solve due to many constraints. Depending on whether the constraints are essential or desirable they are categorized as ‘hard’ and ‘soft’, respectively. Two types of timetables, namely, course and examination are designed for academic institutes. A feasible course timetable could be described as a plan for the movement of students and staff from one classroom to another, without conflicts. Being an NP-complete problem, many attempts have been made using varying computational methods to …

The landscape of energy generation and utilization is witnessing an unprecedented change. We are at the threshold of a major shift in electricity generation from utilization of conventional sources of energy like coal to sustainable and renewable sources of energy like solar and wind. On the other hand, electricity consumption, especially in the field of transportation, due to advancements in the field of battery research and exponential technologies like vehicle telematics, is seeing a shift from carbon based to Lithium based fuel. Encouraged by 1. Decrease in the cost of Li – ion based batteries 2. Breakthroughs in battery chemistry …
Maintaining High Performance Across All Problem Sizes And Parallel Scales Using Microkernel-Based Linear Algebra, Md Rakib Hasan
Maintaining High Performance Across All Problem Sizes And Parallel Scales Using Microkernel-Based Linear Algebra, Md Rakib Hasan
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Linear algebra underlies a large proportion of computational problems. With the continuous increase of scale on modern hardware, performance of small sized linear algebra has become increasingly important. To overcome the shortcomings of conventional approaches, we employ a new approach using a microkernel framework provided by ATLAS to improve the performance of a few linear algebra routines for all problem sizes. Our initial research consists of improving the performance of parallel LU factorization in ATLAS for which we were able to achieve up to 2.07x and 2.66x speedup for small problems, up to 91% and 87% of theoretical peak performance …
Comparing Of Phase Shifting Method And One-Dimensional Continuous Wavelet Transform Method For Reconstruction Using Phase-Only Information, Gülhan Ustabaş Kaya, Zehra Saraç
Comparing Of Phase Shifting Method And One-Dimensional Continuous Wavelet Transform Method For Reconstruction Using Phase-Only Information, Gülhan Ustabaş Kaya, Zehra Saraç
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The one-dimensional continuous wavelet transform method has some advantages in hologram reconstruction, when used in the only phase, compared with the phase shifting method. This paper aims to discuss these advantages. One advantage is related to image quality. Another advantage is less power spent and saving time, because the one-dimensional continuous wavelet transform method uses only one hologram and the phase shifting method uses four holograms for recording and reconstruction processes. One final advantage is that the one-dimensional continuous wavelet transform method can also be used in real-time applications. Within the context of the ongoing optimization studies, this study will …

An Improved Clonal Selection Algorithm Using A Tournament Selection Operator And Its Application To Microstrip Coupler Design, Ezgi̇ Deni̇z Ülker
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The clonal selection algorithm (CLONALG) is a nature-inspired metaheuristic algorithm that has been applied to various complex optimization problems from different fields of study. Tournament selection (TS) is a selection operator that is mainly used in genetic algorithms. In this paper, a novel improved clonal selection algorithm by using the TS operator (ICSAT) is introduced. To observe the improvement, ICSAT was first tested on selected benchmark functions and then to validate its efficiency ICSAT was applied to a microstrip coupler design problem. Although showing some disadvantages that generally exist in all modified algorithms, it is observed that ICSAT has a …

Data Clustering Using Seed Disperser Ant Algorithm, Wen Liang Chang, Jeevan Kanesan, Anand Jayant Kulkarni, Harikrishnan Ramiah
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Nature-inspired optimization algorithms have become popular in the past decade. They have been applied to solve various kinds of problems. Among these would be data clustering, which has become popular in data mining in recent times due to the data explosion. In the last decade, many metaheuristic algorithms have been used to obtain improved data clustering optimization for solving data mining problems. In this paper, we applied the seed disperser ant algorithm (SDAA), which mimics the evolution of an Aphaenogaster senilis ant colony, and we introduced a modified SDAA that is a hybrid of K-means and SDAA for solving data …
Network Analytics For The Mirna Regulome And Mirna-Disease Interactions, Joseph Jayakar Nalluri
Network Analytics For The Mirna Regulome And Mirna-Disease Interactions, Joseph Jayakar Nalluri

miRNAs are non-coding RNAs of approx. 22 nucleotides in length that inhibit gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. By virtue of this gene regulation mechanism, miRNAs play a critical role in several biological processes and patho-physiological conditions, including cancers. miRNA behavior is a result of a multi-level complex interaction network involving miRNA-mRNA, TF-miRNA-gene, and miRNA-chemical interactions; hence the precise patterns through which a miRNA regulates a certain disease(s) are still elusive. Herein, I have developed an integrative genomics methods/pipeline to (i) build a miRNA regulomics and data analytics repository, (ii) create/model these interactions into networks and use optimization techniques, motif …
