Adaptive Switched Capacitor Voltage Boost For Thermoelectric Generation, Rene A. Brito Jan 2016

Adaptive Switched Capacitor Voltage Boost For Thermoelectric Generation, Rene A. Brito

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Thermoelectric generators (TEG) and other forms of energy harvesting often provide voltages that are not directly usable by traditional electronics as levels are too low from the TEG. While increasing the number of thermoelectric elements can ultimately increase the power output, there is a tradeoff between size and power. By implementing charge pumps, a proposed circuit technique is described that can boost the TEG output to levels that can be used for energy harvesting applications. Current voltage boost circuits for TEGs simply boost a voltage by a set amount. The proposed circuit consists of an analog chip, to provide several …

Process Time And Mppt Performance Analysis Of Cf, Lut, And Ann Control Methods For A Pmsg-Based Wind Energy Generation System, Abdulhaki̇m Karakaya, Ercüment Karakaş

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Due to environmental issues such as global warming and the greenhouse effect, there is a growing interest in renewable sources of energy. Wind energy, which is the most important of these energy sources, can potentially meet a portion of the global energy demand. Numerous studies are being conducted worldwide to determine how the maximum level of power can be obtained from wind energy. In these studies, there is a particular interest in permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs). This is because PMSGs exhibit a good performance within a wide range wind speeds and can be driven directly. In this study, the …

A Current-Based Simple Analog Mppt Circuit For Pv Systems, Bülent Büyükgüzel, Murat Aksoy Jan 2016

A Current-Based Simple Analog Mppt Circuit For Pv Systems, Bülent Büyükgüzel, Murat Aksoy

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A new single pilot-sensor maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system, consisting of a buck type DC/DC converter, was developed. It is controlled by an analog-based unit. The main difference between the proposed MPPT system and other systems is that the short circuit current of the pilot-PV module in our system is used to control the DC/DC converter. The circuit of the proposed system does not utilize an expensive digital signal processor nor a microcontroller; hence, the cost and the complexity of the system are reduced.

In this paper, we present a new approach for estimating the one-diode model parameters of a photovoltaic solar panel according to the irradiance and temperature. These parameters are given, at a known irradiance and temperature, from the knowledge of three operating points: short circuit, open circuit, and maximum power. In the first step, the adopted approach concerns the resolution of the system of equations constituting the three operating points to write all the model parameters according to series resistance. Secondly, we make an iterative resolution at the optimal operating point by using the Newton--Raphson method to calculate the series resistance …
