Recently, many researchers have developed various classes of continuous probability distributions which can be generated via the generalized Pearson differential equation and other techniques. In this paper, motivated by the importance of the power series in probability theory and its applications, we derive some new classes of univariate exponential power series distributions for a realvalued continuous random variable, which we call exponential power series distributions. Various mathematical properties of the proposed classes of distributions are discussed. Based on these distributional properties, we have established some characterizations of these distributions as well. It is hoped that the findings of the paper …

Ion–molecule reactions in a flowing afterglow are used to examine the electronic structure of 3- and 4-pyridinylnitrene-n-oxide radical anions. Reactions with nitric oxide are generally similar to those reported previously for other aromatic nitrene radical anions. In particular, phenoxide formation by nitrogen–oxygen exchange is observed with both isomers. Oxygen atom abstraction by NO is also observed with both isomers. Very significant differences in the reactivity are observed in the reactions of the two isomers with carbon disulfide. The reactivity of the 3-noxide isomer with CS2 is similar to that observed previously for nitrene radical anions, and reactions of the n-oxide …
Data Driven Low-Bandwidth Intelligent Control Of A Jet Engine Combustor, Nathan L. Toner
Data Driven Low-Bandwidth Intelligent Control Of A Jet Engine Combustor, Nathan L. Toner
Open Access Dissertations
This thesis introduces a low-bandwidth control architecture for navigating the input space of an un-modeled combustor system between desired operating conditions while avoiding regions of instability and blow-out. An experimental procedure is discussed for identifying regions of instability and gathering sufficient data to build a data-driven model of the system's operating modes. Regions of instability and blow-out are identified experimentally and a data-driven operating point classifier is designed. This classifier acts as a map of the operating space of the combustor, indicating regions in which the flame is in a "good" or "bad" operating mode. A data-driven predictor is also …

The Mh-2 Core From Project Hotspot: Description, Geologic Interpretation, And Significance To Geothermal Exploration In The Western Snake River Plain, Idaho, Jerome A. Varriale
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Harnessing the earth’s natural heat generation as an energy resource has seen increased interest in recent history. While geothermal energy is a sustainable, low-carbon emitting, and viable source of energy in certain regions, large upfront risks, including costs of exploration and deep well drilling, have kept private sector investment at bay. Lowering the risks to capital investment that are inherent to subsurface exploration can help to assuage investors and bring this well-known energy-generating technology to the masses.
A blind potential geothermal system was encountered while drilling the MH2 science drill hole, on Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. The MH-2 …
Developing Synthetic Methods To Prepare Discrete Metal-Organic Nanotubes, Derek L. Mull
Developing Synthetic Methods To Prepare Discrete Metal-Organic Nanotubes, Derek L. Mull
Masters Theses
Metal-organic nanotubes (MONTs) are an emerging class of discrete materials that are the 1D variant of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). MONTs have potential to become an alternative 1D material to carbon nanotubes, metal oxide nanotubes, and boron nitride nanotubes because they possess an organic ligand that can be functionalized and tuned for specific applications. Despite this potential, only a handful of structures have been reported and only two examples of discrete MONTs exist in the literature. It is thus imperative to develop general methods to prepare and characterize discrete MONTs to bring them to the forefront of the scientific literature.

Fabrication And Characterization Of Layered Transition Metal Dichalcogenides, Peter Kosch, Zhiyong Xiao, Xia Hong
UCARE Research Products
The goal of my research was to mechanically exfoliate single to few atomic layer samples of Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2 ), Tungsten Diselenide (WSe2 ), and Tungsten Disulfide (WS2 ) and characterize these 2D materials by multiple methods. I used Atomic Force Microscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, and Optical Microscopy to accomplish this. In addition, I measured the electrical properties of the exfoliated materials by fabricating a device and taking basic measurements.

Low-Temperature Artificial Maturation Studies Of Type Ii And Type Iii Kerogens: Implications For Biogenic Gas Production, Albert Willy Nguena Kamga
Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses & Dissertations
Ancient organic matter (OM) in shales and coals, known mainly as Type II and Type III OM are known to produce both biogenic, thermogenic gas and oil. In this dissertation, mild artificial maturation, via closed system pyrolysis, is employed to determine the thermal reactivity of Type II and Type III OM beyond diagenesis. We select three Type II kerogens: i) Type II kerogen isolated from recent cores (3.3 Ma, Ro = 0.28) recovered from an upwelling basin in Namibia, Africa referred to as ODP Sediment, ii) Type II-S isolated from sediments (150 Ma, Ro = 0.38) recovered from an outcrop …

Development And Application Of New Solid-State Models For Low-Energy Vibrations, Lattice Defects, Entropies Of Mixing, And Magnetic Properties, Jacob M. Schliesser
Theses and Dissertations
Low-temperature heat capacity data contain information on the physical properties of materials, and new models continue to be developed to aid in the analysis and interpretation of heat capacity data into physically meaningful properties. This work presents the development of two such models and their application to real material systems. Equations describing low-energy vibrational modes with a gap in the density of states (DOS) have been derived and tested on several material systems with known gaps in the DOS, and the origins of such gaps in the DOS are presented. Lattice vacancies have been shown to produce a two-level system …
Crystal Growth And Characterization Of Reduced Early Transition Metal Compounds Grown Via Hydrothermal And Molten Flux Methods, Anthony J. Cortese
Crystal Growth And Characterization Of Reduced Early Transition Metal Compounds Grown Via Hydrothermal And Molten Flux Methods, Anthony J. Cortese
Theses and Dissertations
Interest in new and facile ways to prepare early transition metal reduced oxides has recently been increasing. In the past difficult flux techniques involving vacuum furnaces, expensive metal tubing, complicated electrolytic reduction apparatuses, were used to achieve in situ reduction of fully oxidized transition metal precursors. Often times these techniques were coupled with use of a difficult flux, such as boric acid, which is hard to remove due to its insolubility in water at room temperature. These limitations can be circumvented in multiple ways, including carefully choosing a redox neutral flux, using evacuated fused silica tubes for reaction vessels, and …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Thioredoxin reductase (E.C 1.6.4.5.; TrxR) is an enzyme belonging to the flavoprotein family of pyridine nucleotide-disulfide oxidoreductases. In this study, mitochondrial TrxR enzyme was purified from rainbow trout mitochondria. Thanks to the 2 consecutive procedures (preparation of homogenate and 2',5'-ADP Sepharose 4B affinity chromatography), the enzyme, having the specific activity of 11.9 EU mg protein-1, was purified with a yield of 2.38{\%} and 672-fold. The purity of the enzyme was monitored and the molecular weight of its subunits was calculated as 70 kDa by SDS-PAGE. The native molecular mass of the enzyme was found to be approximately 151 kDa by …

Zr(Iv) Complexes Of Some Heterocyclic Ligands: Synthesis, Characterization, And Ethylene Polymerization Activity, Hamdi Ali Elagab
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Thirty-one complexes of bis-(benzimidazole, benzothiazole, and benzoxazole) compounds with Zr(IV) metal centers were synthesized, characterized, activated with methylaluminoxane (MAO), and then tested for catalytic ethylene polymerization. The activities of the various catalysts were found to be functions of the heteroatoms in the ligand frameworks and the structure around the active metal center. The highest activity was obtained with 38/MAO (424 kg E/mol cat. h). The produced polyethylenes showed high molecular weights (41/MAO, 1.9 $\times$ 10$^{6}$ g/mol) and broad molecular weight distributions (38/MAO, M$_{w}$ = 9.64 $\times $ 10$^{5}$ g/mol, PD = 23). This could result from different interactions of the …

Characterization Of 1-Deoxy-D-Xylulose 5-Phosphate Reductoisomerase (Dxr) From Vibrio Vulnificus, Nikita K. Ussin
Theses and Dissertations
Vibrio vulnificus, a gram-negative bacterium, is the leading cause of seafood-borne illnesses and mortality in the United States. Previous studies of bacterial pathogens have identified a metabolite essential to V. vulnificus growth and function. 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate reductoisomerase (Dxr) is an essential enzyme in the viability of many bacteria and catalyzes the rearrangement of 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate (Dxp) to 2-C-methylerythritol 4-phosphate (MEP) within the MEP pathway found in plants and bacteria. Previous studies have been conducted to characterize Dxr homologs from other pathogens including E. coli, M. tuberculosis, and P. falciparum. Information on the structural and enzymatic characteristics of Dxr from Vibrio …
