Distributed Algorithms For Initialization And Topology Control In Wireless Ad Hoc Networks., Subhasis Bhattacharjee Dr.
Distributed Algorithms For Initialization And Topology Control In Wireless Ad Hoc Networks., Subhasis Bhattacharjee Dr.
Doctoral Theses
Wireless ad hoc networking is an upcoming communication technology that makes exchange of information possible without any pre-existing infrastructure. Over the last decade it has grabbed tremendous interest in the research community due to its easy deployability and high flexibility, with numerous applications to social, industrial and personal uses. In this thesis, we designed effcient light weight distributed algorithms based on minimal local information to resolve the problems related to the initialization and topology configuration of wireless ad hoc networks with special emphasis on optimal utilization of limited resources. Once the ad hoc nodes with in-built radio transceivers are deployed …

Racing the Beam: The Atari Video Computer System,by Ian Bogost and Nick Montfort, inaugurated thePlatform Studies series at MIT Press in 2009.We’ve coauthored a new book in the series, Codename: Revolution: the Nintendo Wii Video Game Console. Platform studies is a quintessentially Digital Humanities approach, since it’s explicitly focused on the interrelationship of computing and cultural expression. According to the series preface, the goal of platform studies is “to consider the lowest level of computing systems and to understand how these systems relate to culture and creativity.”In practice, this involves paying close attentionto specific hardware and software interactions--to the vertical …

We have designed and implemented RestFS, a software frame-work that provides a uniform, configurable connector layerfor mapping remote web-based resources to local filesystem-based resources, recognizing the similarity between thesetwo types of resources. Such mappings enable programmaticaccess to a resource, as well as composition of two or moreresources, through the local operating system’s standardfilesystem application programming interface (API), script-able file-based command-line utilities, and inter-process com-munication (IPC) mechanisms. The framework supports au-tomatic and manual authentication. We include several ex-amples intended to show the utility and practicality of ourframework.

Fostering Logical Thinking In Novice Student Programmers, Kyle Wenholz

Many student programmers practice what is called tinkering (attempting to fix broken code by making small haphazard changes). Tinkering wastes time and circumvents the pedagogical purposes of programming exercises in introductory computer science courses. The tinkering process is focused on editing the code before submitting it for compilation, a process that takes code written in a high-level language for translation into machine language (something interpreted directly by the computer). Our hypothesis is that it may be possible to dissuade tinkering by introducing a delay into the compile step, where this delay will keep the student programmer from making changes to …
A Machine-Learning Approach For Workflow Identification From Low-Level Monitoring Information, Thorsten Stein
A Machine-Learning Approach For Workflow Identification From Low-Level Monitoring Information, Thorsten Stein
Theses
Knowing which workflows are executed within Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) is essential for successful IT management. In many cases, SOAs grew out of previous existing IT architectures; existing components are used as single services and therefore as parts of newly created workflows. Since such workflows consist of newly developed and legacy services, traditional workflow management systems often cannot be applied. This thesis presents a method for gathering information about the executed workflows within such heterogeneous environments. An implementation of a framework is presented. This framework allows the training of machine-learning algorithms with workflow models and the mapping of low-level monitoring …

This paper is a report on the findings of a study conducted on a graduate systems engineering course at an urban university in a group learning environment. The course, IEGR 501 Introduction to Advanced Systems Engineering, was a sixteen week course which took students with backgrounds in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering and prepared them to understand the systems engineering subject matter more. As the future of education becomes more and more virtual it becomes essential that universities take full advantage of the available tools at their disposal.

Aligning information systems to corporate goals has emerged as a leading concern over the last couple of decades. It is essential that we understand the need for cloud computing and how this technology can be implemented. Through this literature review we review theories of cloud computing and further elaborate on the theoretical framework for the implementation of cloud computing technology across organizations. We also detail cloud computing implementations across various governmental organizations and also across the industry. This review is expected to provide the current study with a more practical perspective on the issues and complexities of using cloud computing …
