Simeral, Anthony A. Mrse, Jan L. Eilertsen, Lacramioara Negureanu, Zhehong Gan, Frank R. Fronczek, Randall W. Hall, Leslie G. Butler

Randall W. Hall

The first structurally characterized isobutyl-containing aluminoxane compound is presented. The Al10O6iBu16(μ-H)2 (I) cluster is produced from neat octakis-isobutyltetraluminoxane (Al4O2iBu8) at 80 °C in 6−8 h followed by slow crystallization. The crystal is triclinic (space group P1̄) with the molecule lying on an inversion center. This aluminoxane contains both nearly linear, 154(2)°, aluminum-bridging hydrides and three-coordinate aluminum sites. Solid-state 27Al magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR experiments were done at 19.6 and 40 T (833 MHz and 1.703 GHz, 1H) and at 30−35 kHz spinning speeds, leading to the determination of the Cq and η values for the two four-coordinate Al sites and …

High-Loading Nanosized Micelles Of Copoly(Styrene-Maleic Acid)-Zinc Protoporphyrin For Targeted Delivery Of A Potent Heme Oxygenase Inhibitor., Arun Iyer

Arun Iyer

Amphiphilic styrene-maleic acid (SMA) copolymer efficiently formed micelles with a potent heme oxygenase inhibitor-zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP). The micelles were constructed by subtle pH adjustments to form non-covalent interaction between the hydrophobic ZnPP and amphiphilic SMA. The micelles (SMA-ZnPP) thus formed were nanoparticles with narrow size distribution in water (mean diameter 176.5nm), having tunable loading (from 15% to 60% w/w of ZnPP) with remarkable aqueous solubility. SMA-ZnPP had an average molecular size of 144kDa as determined by size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), this size is a marked increase from the molecular weight of free ZnPP (626.03Da), suggesting the formation of micellar structure. The …

Modification Of A Capillary For Electrophoresis By Electrostatic Self-Assembly Of An Enzyme For Selective Determination Of The Enzyme Substrate, Stephanie Hooper, Mark Anderson

Mark R. Anderson

The integration of a separation capillary for capillary electrophoresis (CE) with an on-column enzyme reaction for selective determination of the enzyme substrate is described. Enzyme immobilization is achieved by electrostatic assembly of poly(diallydimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) followed by adsorption of a mixture of the negatively charged enzyme glucose oxidase (GOx) and anionic poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS). The reaction of glucose with the GOx produces hydrogen peroxide which migrates the length of the capillary and is detected amperometrically at the capillary outlet. The enzyme reaction occurs during a capillary separation, allowing selective determination of the substrate in complex samples without the need for pre- …

Well-Resolved Coherent Raman Spectra From Femtosecond Pulses, Sukhendu Nath, Diana Urbanek, Sean Kern, Mark Berg

Sean J. Kern

This paper demonstrates a method for measuring coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectra with a resolution limited only by the inherent linewidth of the sample, even when using pulses of a width (60 fs, 300 cm−1) that is between the widths needed for a pure frequency- or time-domain measurement. Data are collected as a function of both delay and frequency and used to recover a standard Raman spectrum. The resulting time/frequency detected experiment represents a bridge between standard time- and frequency-domain approaches to spectroscopy.

Simultaneous Time And Frequency Detection In Femtosecond Coherent Raman Spectroscopy, Sukhendu Nath, Diana Urbanek, Sean Kern, Mark Berg Dec 2006

Simultaneous Time And Frequency Detection In Femtosecond Coherent Raman Spectroscopy, Sukhendu Nath, Diana Urbanek, Sean Kern, Mark Berg

Sean J. Kern

The preceding paper showed that, in principle, a high-resolution coherent Raman spectrum can be recovered using femtosecond probe pulses by combined detection in both time and frequency. This measurement is possible even when the pulses are too broad in frequency for conventional frequency-domain spectroscopy and too broad in time for conventional time-domain spectroscopy. In this paper, the method is tested on experimental coherent anti-stokes Raman spectroscopy data from acetonitrile. Compared to theoretical models, experimental data are complicated by noise and incomplete knowledge of the pulse structure. Despite these complications, most of the information in the Raman spectrum is recovered from …

Synthesis Of Homoallyl Ethers Via Allylation Of Acetals And Aldehydes In Ionic Liquids, Ram Mohan, Peter Anzalone Dec 2006

Synthesis Of Homoallyl Ethers Via Allylation Of Acetals And Aldehydes In Ionic Liquids, Ram Mohan, Peter Anzalone

Ram S. Mohan

The TMS triflate catalyzed allylation of acetals to yield homoallyl ethers proceeds smoothly at room temperature in ionic liquids. A one-pot method for the conversion of aldehydes to homoallyl ethers in an ionic liquid has also been developed. This methodology is attractive because it allows allylations to be carried out at room temperature. Ionic liquids offer a convenient replacement for CH2Cl2, the commonly used solvent for such reactions.

Iron(Iii) P-Toluenesulfonate Catalyzed Synthesis Of Homoallyl Ethers From Acetals And Aldehydes, Ram S. Mohan, Matthew J. Spafford, Erin D. Anderson, Joshua R. Lacey, Ann C. Palma Dec 2006

Iron(Iii) P-Toluenesulfonate Catalyzed Synthesis Of Homoallyl Ethers From Acetals And Aldehydes, Ram S. Mohan, Matthew J. Spafford, Erin D. Anderson, Joshua R. Lacey, Ann C. Palma

Ram S. Mohan

Iron(III) p-toluenesulfonate, Fe(OTs)3.6H20, is an inexpensive, versatile and commercially available catalyst for the allylation of acetals using allyltrimethylsilane to yield homoallyl ethers in moderate to good yields. The one-pot conversion of aldehydes to homoallyl ethers using alkoxysilanes has also been accomplished using Fe(OTs)3.6H20 as a catalyst. The use of mild reaction conditions and a relatively non-corrosive catalyst make this method an attractive option for the synthesis of a range of homoallyl ethers.

Reactivity Of Ionic Liquids, Ram S. Mohan, Shahana Chowdhury, Janet L. Scott Dec 2006

Reactivity Of Ionic Liquids, Ram S. Mohan, Shahana Chowdhury, Janet L. Scott

Ram S. Mohan

Ionic liquids are becoming widely used in synthetic organic chemistry and yet relatively little attention has been paid to the intrinsic reactivity of these low temperature molten salts. Clues to the non-innocent nature of many ionic liquids are contained in the reports of altered reactivity of dissolved substrates, unexpected catalytic activity and unforeseen by-product formation. In this review, we focus on the reactivity of ionic liquids, as opposed to reactivity in ionic liquids (although discussion of the latter is often included where it aids understanding of the former).

Synthesis, Physico-Chemical And Spectroscopic Investigations Of Sodium Dihydrobis(1,2,3-Benzotriazolyl)Borate Ligand And Its Transition Metal Complexes, Mohammad Mansoob Khan Dr, M. M. Rahman, Y. B. Hahn

Dr. Mohammad Mansoob Khan

The title ligand, sodium dihydrobis(1,2,3-benzotriazolyl) borate, Na[H2B(BTz)2],was synthesized by refluxing 1 mole of sodium borohydride with 2 moles of 1,2,3- benzotriazole in toluene. The ligand shows ample reactivity towards Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) metal ions and forms stable complexes. The ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by physico-hemical and spectroscopic techniques. All the complexes of divalent metal ions are tetrahedral except for Cu(II), which has been proposed to have a square-planar geometry. The complexes of Cr(III) and Fe(III) appear to have an octahedralge ometry. The magnitude of molar conductance of 10−3 M …
