This paper examines the share market reactions to bond rating changes of upgrades and downgrades. In term of analysis the upgrade and the downgrade category has been divided into changes based on the investment and speculative groups. The market model was used in determining abnormal returns for the study. This research provides the relation of changes taken place within the group and across the group. A generalized one-dimensional monotone follower control problem with a nonconvex functional is considered. The controls are assumed to be nonnegative progressively measurable processes. The verification theorem for this problem is presented. A specific monotone follower control problem with a nonconvex functional is then considered in which the diffusion term is constant. The optimal control for this problem, which is explicitly given, can be viewed as tracking a standard Wiener process by a non anticipating process starting at 0. Artificial Peptides Containing Ca,A- Disubstituted Amino Acids: Synthesis, Conformational Studies, And Application As Β-Strand Mimics, Yanwen Fu

Short peptides containing Cα,α-dipropylglycine (Dpg) at alternating sequence positions were synthesized and examined for conformational behavior. Peptide assembly was performed using Fmoc-solid-phase chemistry where the coupling with PyAOP could be significantly enhanced at elevated temperature. Circular dichroism (CD) and NMR conformational studies revealed that incorporation of Dpg residues induced folded structures into peptides. It was observed that Dpg residues adopted helical conformation in a helix-promoting sequence. The resulting helical structure was comprised of consecutive β-turns whose structure was stabilized by salt bridge in aqueous solution. Diffractive dissociation of virtual photons, γ*p → Xp, has been studied in ep interactions with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data cover photon virtualities 0.17 < Q2 < 0.70 GeV2 and 3 < Q2 < 80 GeV2 with 3 < MX < 38 GeV, where MX is the mass of the hadronic final state. Diffractive events were selected by two methods: the first required the detection of the scattered proton in the ZEUS leading proton spectrometer (LPS); the second was based on the distribution of MX. The integrated luminosities of the low- and high-Q2 samples used in the LPS-based analysis are ≃ 0.9 pb-1 and ≃ 3.3 pb-1, respectively. The sample used for the MX-based analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of ≃ 6.2 pb-1. The dependence of the diffractive cross section on W, the virtual photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, and on Q2 is studied. In the low-Q2 range, the energy dependence is compatible with Regge theory and is used to determine the intercept of the Pomeron trajectory. The W dependence of the diffractive cross section exhibits no significant change from the low-Q2 to the high-Q2 region. In the low-Q2 range, little Q2 dependence is found, a significantly different behaviour from the rapidly falling cross section measured for Q2 > 3 GeV2. The ratio of the diffractive to the virtual photon-proton total cross section is studied as a function of W and Q2. Comparisons are made with a model based on perturbative QCD.

This work concerns the finding of the semi-classical form of the coherent state representation for the class of quantum baker’s maps defined by Schack and Caves. It begins by introducing the finite-dimensional Hilbert space on which the quantum baker’s map is defined. Its pertinent features including the all important symmetry operators are introduced and given a full explanation. We also introduce the finite-dimensional phase space which will give the semi-classical limit a geometrical interpretation. Successful crystallization and X-ray crystallographic analyses of the highly metastable (1∶1) complexes of bromine with benzene and toluene establish the unique (localized) structure B that differs in notable ways from the long-accepted (delocalized) structure A. Furthermore, we demonstrate the (highly structured) charge-transfer complexes [C6H6,Br2] and [CH3C6H5,Br2] to be the pre-reactive intermediates that are converted (via an overall Br+ transfer) to the Wheland intermediates in electrophilic aromatic bromination. This paper presents data to support the presence of (1) intra-annual signals in the chemical composition (δ18O and Sr/Ca) of the skeletons ofsclerosponges from the Bahamas and (2) variable rates of skeletal accretion. These conclusions are based on data obtained by using a microsampling method for the stable oxygen and carbon isotopes in which material was extracted at a resolution of one sample every 34 μm and a laser microprobe which obtained trace element data every 20 μm (Sr, Mg, and Pb). Existing models developed to simulate the evolution of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) have focused on the conditions prevalent in mid-latitude regions. The problem for these models in terms of their application to tropical conditions is that the mid-latitude ABL is, in many respects, physically quite different from that of the tropical ABL. Because of this, and due also to the relative lack of relevant atmospheric observations in tropical areas, the tropical ABL is incorrectly represented in such models, and also in various applications that use the mid-latitude ABL representation (for example, air pollution dispersion models). In this paper, we concentrate on the uniqueness of the positive solution for the general elliptic system { Δu + u(g1(u) - g 2(v)) = 0 in R+ × Ω, Δν + v(h 1(u) - h2(v)) = 0 u|∂Ω = v| ∂Ω = 0. This system is the general model for the steady state of a competitive interacting system. The techniques used in this paper are upper-lower solutions, maximum principles and spectrum estimates. The arguments also rely on some detailed properties for the solution of logistic equations.

An action of a Lie group G on a bundle is said to be transverse if it is projectable and if the orbits of G on E are diffeomorphic under π to the orbits of G on M. Transverse group actions on bundles are completely classified in terms of the pullback bundle construction for G-invariant maps. This classification result is used to give a full characterization of the G invariant sections of E for projectable group actions.

The gene encoding for the methionyl aminopeptidase from the hyperthermophilic archaeon Pyrococcus furiosus (PfMetAP-II; EC 3.4.11.18) has been inserted into a pET 27b(+) vector and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The new expression system resulted in a 5-fold increase in purified enzyme obtained from a 5 L fermentor growth. The as-purified PfMetAP-II enzyme, to which no exogenous metal ions or EDTA was added, was found to have 1.2 equiv of zinc and 0.1 equiv of iron present by ICP-AES analysis. This enzyme had a specific activity of 5 units/mg, a 60-fold decrease from the fully loaded Fe(II) …

Silicon-methoxide-containing modified clays were obtained through cationic exchange between the sodium clay and the ammoniumcation of [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl]octadecyldimethylammoniumchloride (Si18). The nanocomposites were prepared through bulk polymerization of styrene in which the Si18 clay was dispersed. The silicon-methoxide offers the possibility of reaction between the methoxide and a clay hydroxyl group to link together the cation and the clay. The nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. Their thermal stability and flame retardancy were measured by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and cone calorimetry. Linkage between the silicon and the clay apparently occurs in the clay but …

Nanocomposites of polypropylene-graft-maleic anhydride with organically modified clays have been prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Their combustion behavior has been evaluated using oxygen consumption cone calorimetry. Synergy is observed between the nanocomposite formed and conventional vapor phase fire retardants, such as the combination of decabromodiphenyloxide and antimony oxide. The presence of bromine and antimony does not affect the heat release rate curves of the virgin polymer.
