Generally Covariant Theory Of Multipole Moment Conserving Quasiparticles, Gavin Eric Riley

This report represents the creation of a field theory which is capable of describing quasiparticle excitations that preserve 2^k -pole moments. These quasiparticles exhibit certain ’semidynamic’ properties such as individual particle immobility but free movement of bound 2^L-tuples. We provide a review of work done on dipole conserving fractons and their dynamics [1] and expand upon it to describe higher moment conserving systems with global quadratic (and higher) phase symmetry. The Slollicum and Cogburn terranes, metamorphosed country rock within the southern Coast Plutonic Complex, are juxtaposed along a thrust fault together with large slabs of ultramafic rock. The structure and metamorphism along and near this fault are the focus of this study.

Three periods of deformation (D1-D3) affected the study area. D1 structures consist of penetrative foliation and lineations that are attributed to thrust stacking of the Slollicum and Cogburn terranes. Foliation, which parallels the fault contact, dips to the northeast at moderate to steep angles. Lineations have mainly down-dip orientations. D2 structures record …

Studies of foliation and associated microstructures are presented from a variety of rock types and localities in the metamorphic terrains of the northeastern United States.
At Islesboro, Maine cleavage is well developed in lower greenschist grade siltstones and interbedded pelites of lower Paleozoic age. Cleavage in the siltstone units consists of two types of discrete mica films: short film segments and lengthened mica film. Thick secondary mica-rich layers are also exhibited in some siltstones. The short film segments appear to be basic elements through which cleavage development progresses by a linkage process that is poorly understood. The linkage of these …
