Although the Çankırı-Çorum Basin was studied for various purposes such as geological, stratigraphical, tectonic, coal and oil exploration, studies on fossils are limited. Especially there have not been detailed studies on molluscs and larger foraminifera. The research area is located at the vicinity of Ayvalıca (north of Çankırı-Çorum basin). In this study, the petrography, mineral chemistry and crystallization conditions were reported for the Alemdar and Işıkdere plutons located in limited areas in the south of the Eastern Pontides. These plutons, which trend mostly in NE-SW directions, were emplaced by cutting the Early- Middle Carboniferous-aged Gümüşhane Granitoid and Early-Middle Jurassic Şenköy formation. Petrographically, the studied plutons are compositionally fine to medium grained quartz-diorite, quartz monzodiorite and tonalite. The rocks in the plutons have granular, poikilitic, monzonitic, graphic and rare porphyritic textures with consist of plagioclase, (An05-92), hornblende (Mg# = 0.52- 0.81), biotite (Mg# = 0.32-0.67), orthoclase, quartz and Fe-Ti oxide. …

The anomaly maps and amplitude and wavelength changes of the anomalies obtained from gravity and magnetic methods can provide to identify fault traces in the underground. The Tuzgölü Fault Zone (TFZ), the NW-SE striking active fault zone in central Anatolia, includes fault strands that cut the basement and basin deposits. Our magnetic and gravity analysis suggests that Tuzgölü Basin and its surroundings are characterized by distinct depression and ridge areas. Gravity anomaly data show the presence of faults at depths of sea level (0 m), -1000 m, -2000 m, -3000 m, and -4000 m. These faults are mostly normal and …

This study aims to investigate and correlate the mineralogical-petrographic characteristics of Metamorphites in Göksun, Afşin and Ekinözü in the Southeast Anatolian Metamorphic Massifs. In this context, the optical microscopy and XRD investigations were performed on several samples. Göksun Metamorphites are constituted by phyllite, calcphyllite, marble and they contain mainly calcite, dolomite, quartz, feldspar, phyllosilicate. KI and b-cell dimension data reflect high anchizone-epizone and medium pressure conditions. Afşin Metamorphites are represented by phyllite, calcphyllite, calcschist, micaschist, amphiboleschist, marble. Phyllosilicates have consisted of illite/mica, IIb chlorite, mixed-layers, smectite. The study aims to determine the rare earth element (REE) concentrations in the soil samples collected from the field and to interpret the origin of the high concentrations detected. Oligocene aged evaporite formations are observed in shallow sea-sabkha environments that develop in highly restricted conditions from sea in northeastern of the Muş basin. Evaporites are observed as alternated and intercalated with clastics and carbonates that developed under the control of factors such as climate, tectonism, volcanism and diagenesis. Evaporites consist of primary and secondary gypsum and minor anhydrite. In petrographic and minerologic examinations, secondary gypsum textures such as alabastrin, porphyroblastic and satin spar with anhydrite relicts, late diagenetic calcite, bitumen and bioturbation traces were detected. Ground improvement using mechanical stabilization is commonly applied by performing the standard Proctor compaction test, which requires a significant quantity of soil, usually obtained from open pits. Karataş volcanics, is the product of Eocene volcanics crop out in the form of two belts along the northern and southern boundaries of the İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan Suture Zone. According to geochemical data, these volcanics have alkaline basic-intermediate character and consist of basaltic trachyandesite, trachyandesite and trachyte. This volcanic activity has been controlled by fractional crystallization and crustal contamination from basaltic trachyandesite to trachyte. This study aims to investigate the stratigraphy and regional correlation of terrestrial Neogene sediments and volcanics in the Çeşme Peninsula. Neogene deposition is represented by two main sedimentary successions separated from each other by an angular unconformity. The lacustrine dominated Çeşme group characterized the Lower-Middle Miocene deposition is formed by Şifne, Ovacık and Çiftlik formations. The felsic pyroclastics (Alaçatı pyroclastics), which are the early products of the Armağandağı volcanism, laterally associated with the Çeşme group deposition, deposited on the Şifne formation and interrupted the lacustrine sedimentation. Two materials are studied to synthesize a vinyl painting. Iron ore is an iron pigment with an oolithic structure containing phosphorus. The second material is a steel by-product. The raw materials proprieties were studied by chemical, particle size, thermal, XRD and spectrophotometric analysis. The iron contents of the pigment and scale are respectively 53.18% and 73.83%. The grindability of scale is better than that of the pigment. The particle volume distribution is 0.7 to 32 µm for scale and 0.6 to 40 µm for pigment. Volcanic originated pumice and zeolite aggregates have low density owing to their considerable porous structure. Porosity is usually correlated with insulation properties. In order to examine the effects of this lightweight aggregates on dead load of structure and insulation properties of standard construction materials, samples were produced by using pumice and zeolite at varying percentages by volume and control samples were manufactured with crushed sand. Seed like fossils recognized by their distinctive orbicular in shape are seen in the early Miocene of the Nallıhan area (NW Türkiye). We examined more than one hundred specimens and facies associations for interpreting of fossil morphology and its paleoenvironment. The fossils as dark crystallized dots on the bedding surface of clayey limestones are characterized by a thick edged lenticular shape with a smooth one side and concave another side with circular nucleus. The high seismic activity is a result of a complex tectonic deformation dominated by the N-S extensional tectonic regime in Western Anatolia. This tectonic deformation is also a result of the relative movement of the African- Arabian plates towards the north, which causes the Anatolian plate to shift 2.5 cm per year towards W-SW. Volcanism that has been active since the early Miocene along a N-S trending line from Eskişehir to Isparta displays calc-alkaline and alkaline character and is closely associated with slab tearing processes. However, the geodynamic setting of these volcanic units between Afyon and Emirdağ is still poorly known. In this study, petrological characteristics of the Emirdağ and İscehisar volcanic units have been investigated using petrography, whole-rock geochemistry and Sr-Nd isotopes. The East Anatolian Fault (EAF) is an active left-lateral strike-slip fault extending between Karlıova (Bingöl) in the northeast and Iskenderun Bay in the southwest. The Palu, which is the subject of the study area, is located on the Palu segment of the EAF. This study was conducted to determine fauna and flora assemblages of Holocene sequences from Gemlik Gulf (SE Marmara Sea) and to obtaine their similarities and differences between the assemblages of Gemlik and İzmit Bays. Total of 201 dark gray colored, fine to medium grained sandy clay samples were studied. In the drilled samples, 22 genera and 38 species were identified from the foraminifera characterizing the infralittoral zone. 40 genera and 58 species of foraminifera characterizing the upper circalittoral zone were identified. In the study, the changes in the mechanical properties of the natural stone samples, which had been obtained from different regions of Turkey, before and after the freeze-thaw test were examined. Within the scope of the study, 17 different natural stone samples were used and, after chemical and mineralogical-petrographical properties were determined. Water absorption at atmospheric pressure, real density, porosity, and uniaxial compressive strength tests were performed before and after freezing-thawing. The Nevruztepe iron-copper prospect is a skarn near Yeşilhisar (Kayseri). It has been overlooked as a potential producer of copper. The skarn was generated in Permian to Jurassic carbonate rocks by the Eocene Yahyalı granitic pluton. Lithologic units, including skarns, dip about 15 degrees southward. Skarns are both prograde (garnet and diopside) and retrograde (epidote); both exoskarn and endoskarn exist. Most of the magnetite is in a quartz-sulfide stage in retrograde skarn that is cut by veins and lenses containing quartz-pyrite-chalcopyrite. Granite and mineralized skarn are rare at the surface. A depth camera was used to record the spherical cavity which occurred during blasting in clay soil. For this purpose, the integration of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) method was applied in addition to the depth camera and the laser, to determine the resulting spherical cavity. The expanded spherical cavity, formed after the blasting of the explosive charge in the bottom of the borehole, was measured by a depth camera-laser system. The GNSS measurement method was instrumental for obtaining the coordinates of the borehole. The Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) measurement method was also used during the study. …

This paper presents an overview to the applicability of the “energy-based liquefaction approach” with regards to the new developments in the subject. The method involves comparing the strain energy for the soil liquefaction (capacity) with the strain energy imparted to the soil layer during an earthquake (demand). The performance of the method was evaluated by using a large database of SPT-based liquefaction case history. The energy-based method and the more commonly used stressbased method were compared in their capability to assess liquefaction potential under the same damaging historic earthquakes and geotechnical site conditions. Gökçeada Island, which is situated west of Biga Peninsula, has widespread magmatism with variable ages. Lower-Middle Eocene Dağiçitepe volcanics are the oldest volcanic unit in the island and consist of lavas, tuff-tuffites. They are influenced by alteration and almost all minerals, except quartz, are transformed into other minerals. Lower Oligocene Gökçeada andesitic lava/ domes exhibiting hypocrystalline porphyric texture, are the products of NE-SW trending domes/ cryptodomes. The phenocrysts assemblages consist of plagioclase, hornblende, clinopyroxene ± biotite and quartz. The lacustrine units have been deposited in the Ermenek, Bucakkışla, Korucuk and Çamlıyayla basins in the Central Taurides since early Oligocene. In this study, structural features and stratigraphical properties of Oligocene basins have been described in detail and the lacustrine units have been dated. Regional geological interpretations have been made by using tectono-stratigraphic and age data of the basins. Lacustrine Oligocene sedimentation in these basins, which were opened on the tectonic units of Taurides due to normal faults, constitute the first records of the sedimentation occurring under the extensional tectonic regime after the orogeny of the Central Taurides.
