Impact Of Dry Matter At Ensiling On Final Ph And Nutritive Value Of Mixed Cool-Season Haylage, Christopher D. Teutsch, A. E. Teutsch

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

Harvesting hay as baleage can allow for more timely harvest, especially in spring months when curing conditions are not ideal. Forage conserved as baleage undergoes anaerobic fermentation in which the sugars are converted to lactic acid, lowering final pH. To successfully conserve forage as dry hay, moisture concentrations must be less than 18%. In contrast, the ideal moisture concentration for baleage is between 55 and 65%. There are a number of producers harvesting and wrapping hay that is not quite “dry enough” to bale but is too dry to ensile. This produces a product commonly referred to by producers as …

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

Decreased fermentation and spoilage losses with improved aerobic stability during feed out can be accomplished by several strategies, such as wilting, addition of microbial additives and moisture absorbents. Particle size reduction may increase bulk density and improve the fermentation. The objective of this trial was to evaluate the effects of particle size, moisture content and a microbial additive on chemical-physical parameters and losses in silages made from Tanzania grass.

Investigation Of The Fire Effects On Some Physico-Chemical Characteristics Of Soil (Case Study: Miankaleh Rangeland, Iran), Mohammadreza Tatian, Reza Tamartash, Maedeh Yousefian, Fatemeh Montazeri, Mehdi Jafari Feb 2020

Investigation Of The Fire Effects On Some Physico-Chemical Characteristics Of Soil (Case Study: Miankaleh Rangeland, Iran), Mohammadreza Tatian, Reza Tamartash, Maedeh Yousefian, Fatemeh Montazeri, Mehdi Jafari

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

Fire is one of the ecological factors that can have positive and negative effects on ecosystem processes. Nevertheless, prescribed burning is considered to be an important tool for grassland management, particularly to manipulate the balance between grasses and shrubs (Scheintaub et al. 2009). In Iran, for example, Khodagholi et al. (2001) in the Samirom rangelands of Isfahan Province suggest that fire reduces the shrubs cover and production and leads to the expansion of grasses. Sharifi and Imani (2006) showed that in the semi-steppe of Khalkhal Province shrub cover decreased in contrast to permanent grasses after fire was applied. …

Interior Insulation Retrofit Of A Brick Wall Using Super Insulation Materials: Design Of A Field Testing In An Industrial Brick Building, Pär Johansson, Paula Wahlgren Sep 2018

Interior Insulation Retrofit Of A Brick Wall Using Super Insulation Materials: Design Of A Field Testing In An Industrial Brick Building, Pär Johansson, Paula Wahlgren

International Building Physics Conference 2018

The societal demands on a more energy efficient building stock in Sweden creates challenges to find suitable retrofitting measures. One of the measures currently discussed is to use interior insulation. This measure leads to a reduced temperature in the wall, which increases the risk for elevated moisture levels in the wall. When the thickness of the insulation layer is limited, super insulation materials (SIM) may be used. SIM can be divided into advanced porous materials, such as aerogel blankets (AB), and vacuum insulation panels (VIP). Often moisture from the outside is the major moisture source why a solution may be …

Hygrothermal Assessment Of North Facing, Cold Attic Spaces Under The Eaves With Varying Single Sided Passive Ventilation Strategies And Infiltration Scenarios, In A Cool, Temperate Climate, Nickolaj Feldt Jensen, Søren Peter Bjarløv, Christopher Just Johnston, Casper F. H. Pold, Morten Hjorslev Hansen, Ruut Hannele Peuhkuri

International Building Physics Conference 2018

Relative humidity and temperature were measured in cold attic spaces under the eaves with diffusion-open roofing underlay to investigate different ventilation strategies, the influence of infiltration, and exterior insulated roofing underlay. The project was carried out as a full-scale experimental setup in the cool, temperate climate in Lyngby, Denmark. The objective was to test if the best practice recommendations concerning design of the cold attic space will prevent damaging moisture levels in the attics. Measurements do however indicate that complying with recommendations will not ensure satisfactory moisture levels in the attic spaces. A comparison of the passive ventilation strategies in …
