Shearing Strength And Chemical Composition In The Selection For Quality In Brachiaria Brizantha, Cacilda B. Valle, F. E. Torres, B. Lempp

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

Selection of quality pasture forages for productivity, nutritive value and animal performance require long-term, expensive trials. Simpler and accurate techniques to detect quality differences among genotypes have been proposed (Mackinnon et al., 1988; Hughes et al., 2000). This paper discusses the use of shearing strength in Brachiaria brizantha ecotypes to correlate physical traits with chemical composition: the objective being the identification of cultivars of improved quality forage suitable to the savannas of Brazil.

Correlation Between Epiphytic Microflora And Microbial Pollution And Fermentation Quality Of Silage Made From Grasses, B. Osmane, J. Blūzmanis Feb 2023

Correlation Between Epiphytic Microflora And Microbial Pollution And Fermentation Quality Of Silage Made From Grasses, B. Osmane, J. Blūzmanis

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

Grass forage in Latvia is the main and inexpensive cow feed, however its composition and nutritive value differ during the growth period of grasses. The traits of grasses, their natural ensilage capacity, count of epiphytic microflora, the timing of harvest and ensilage making technology affecting the quality of grass silage are important issues to be studied. Silage making for the winter period is the treatment of green material to minimise the breakdown of nutrients being the results of biochemical and microbiological processes. The aim of the research was to clarify the methodologies to reduce the count of epiphytic microflora and …

Phenotypic Variability Of Cenchrus Ciliaris L. Germplasm In Field Gene Bank, C. S. Shantharaja, R. K. Bhatt, M. P. Rajora May 2020

Phenotypic Variability Of Cenchrus Ciliaris L. Germplasm In Field Gene Bank, C. S. Shantharaja, R. K. Bhatt, M. P. Rajora

IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)

The world faces a continual need to increase forage crop productivity, and to develop new varieties more adapted to changing environmental and biological challenges, and evolving needs of Local communities. One of the main reasons for under-utilization of germplasm, according to curators, breeders and other users of plant genetic resources, is the lack of adequate passport, characterization and evaluation data (Biodiversity International, 2007). Buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris L.) is a C4 perennial grass of arid lands distributed over hotter and drier parts of India, Mediterranean region and tropical and southern Africa. This forage grass is under the focus …

A Correlation And Stratigraphy Of Detailed Measured Core Sections Of The Waynesville And Liberty Formations (Katian; Richmondian) - Transecting Warren, Clinton, And Fayette Counties Of Ohio, Mark P. Guilliams Apr 2017

A Correlation And Stratigraphy Of Detailed Measured Core Sections Of The Waynesville And Liberty Formations (Katian; Richmondian) - Transecting Warren, Clinton, And Fayette Counties Of Ohio, Mark P. Guilliams

The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)

The stratigraphy of the Cincinnatian is difficult to understand and interpret which has resulted in various models for deposition ranging from a layer cake model with continuous beds to completely discontinuous beds. The interest of this study is the Liberty and Waynesville Formations (previously part of the Bull Fork Formation); these are Late Ordovician (Katian; Richmondian) units of predominantly limestone and shale. This project assesses the continuity of fine scale beds within these formations across a small area (approx. the size of Ohio’s Clinton County) by correlating measured sections from drill cores. The project involved the study of five rock …

Effect Of Correlations On Type 1 Error Rates Of Some Multivariate Normality Tests, Gbenga Sunday Solomon, Kayode Ayinde, Nurudeen Abiodun Alao Jan 2017

Effect Of Correlations On Type 1 Error Rates Of Some Multivariate Normality Tests, Gbenga Sunday Solomon, Kayode Ayinde, Nurudeen Abiodun Alao

Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture

Normality assumption of multivariate data is a prerequisite to the use of multivariate statistical data analysis methods before inference could be valid and reliable. Tests developed to validate this assumption including Doornik-Harsen (DH), Shapiro-Francia (SF), Mardia Skewness (MS), Mardia Skewness for small sample (MSS) and Kurtosis (MK), Skewness (S) and Kurtosis(K), Shapiro-Wilk(SW), Royston (R), Desgagne-Micheaux (DM), Henze-Zirkler (HZ), Energy (E), Gel-Gastwirth (GG) and Bontemps-Meddahi (BM) tests often result into different conclusions. These differences can be misleading. Consequently, this paper examined the effect of correlations on the Type 1 error rates of multivariate tests of normality. Monte Carlo experiments were conducted …

Correlation Of Basal Cambrian Sandstones Across North America, Joshua W. Perez Apr 2016

Correlation Of Basal Cambrian Sandstones Across North America, Joshua W. Perez

The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)

A thin, widespread sequence of siliciclastic strata ranging from lower to upper Cambrian age overlies Precambrian crystalline and metamorphic basement rock bounded by the Great Unconformity. This sequence is mainly comprised of basal Cambrian sandstones which can be subdivided into three distinct suites of lithofacies transitioning in age across most of North America. From the west, which is most notable for the Tapeats sandstone of Arizona and Nevada, lies gravelly to boulder sized conglomerates directly overlying basement rock. Eastward, the lower to middle Cambrian consists of a variety of ledge-forming sandstones which contain various areas rich in cross bedded, as …

Comparing Correlated Parameter Estimates For Nonlinear Pet Model, J. Wu, A. Parkhurst, K. Eskridge, D. Travnicek, T. Brown-Brandi, R. Eigenberg, G. L. Hahn, J. Nienaber, T. Mader, D. Spiers

Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture

The nonlinear PET model based on Newton's law of cooling can be used to estimate body temperature in cattle, T b challenged by hot cyclic chamber temperatures, T a . The PET model has four biologically meaningful parameters: K, the thermal constant; Δ, the difference between T b and adjusted T a ; Υ the proportion of variation in T b comparable to variation in Ta ; T bini, the initial body temperature. The two parameters Y and Δ are highly correlated in the current version of the model. This study looks at other ways to parameterize …
