Most of the traditional attosecond pulse retrieval algorithms are based on a so-called attosecond streak camera technique, in which the momentum of the electron is shifted by an amount depending on the relative time delay between the attosecond pulse and the streaking infrared pulse. Thus, temporal information of the attosecond pulse is encoded in the amount of momentum shift in the streaked photoelectron momentum spectrogram S(p, τ), where p is the momentum of the electron along the polarization direction and τ is the time delay. An iterative algorithm is then employed to reconstruct the attosecond pulse from the streaking spectrogram. …

Results are presented of searches for continuous gravitational waves from 20 accreting millisecond x-ray pulsars with accurately measured spin frequencies and orbital parameters, using data from the third observing run of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors. The search algorithm uses a hidden Markov model, where the transition probabilities allow the frequency to wander according to an unbiased random walk, while the J-statistic maximum-likelihood matched filter tracks the binary orbital phase. Three narrow subbands are searched for each target, centered on harmonics of the measured spin frequency. The search yields 16 candidates, consistent with a false alarm probability of …

The authors regret < (1) In the abstract: "[Formula presented] charge resolution for single particle of 18.5% and [Formula presented]" change to "[Formula presented] charge resolution for single particle of 22.2% and [Formula presented]" (2) Fig. 11 shows distribution of charge resolution of 4362EDs, this figure should be replaced with the followed figure. [Figure presented] (3) In the conclusion: "The charge resolution for single-track events of all tested EDs is about 18.5%". – change to – "The charge resolution for single-track events of all tested EDs is about 22.2%". >. The authors would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused. We are sorry that there is a mistake in the paper of "Performance test of the electromagnetic particle detectors for the LHAASO experiment". That is the figure 11 was submitted by mistake. During the ED's performance test, the definition of charge resolution of single particle developed a little bit which brought confusions. In the beginning, we define [Formula presented], where MPV is the maximum of the fitted function. Then we use [Formula presented], however it is related to the range of spectrum. Finally, we use [Formula …

We investigate the behavior of the frustrated J1-J2 Ising model on a square lattice under the influence of random dilution and spatial anisotropies. Spinless impurities generate a random-field type disorder for the spin-density wave (stripe) order parameter. These random fields destroy the long-range stripe order in the case of spatially isotropic interactions. Combining symmetry arguments, percolation theory, and large-scale Monte Carlo simulations, we demonstrate that arbitrarily weak spatial interaction anisotropies restore the stripe phase. More specifically, the transition temperature Tc into the stripe phase depends on the interaction anisotropy ΔJ via Tc∼1/|ln(ΔJ)| for small …

Proton Radius: A Puzzle Or A Solution!?, Ulrich D. Jentschura

The proton radius puzzle is known as the discrepancy of the proton radius, obtained from muonic hydrogen spectroscopy (obtained as being roughly equal to 0.84 fm), and the proton radius obtained from (ordinary) hydrogen spectroscopy where a number of measurements involving highly excited states have traditionally favored a value of about 0.88 fm. Recently, a number of measurements of hydrogen transitions by the Munich (Garching) groups (notably, several hyperfine-resolved sublevels of the 2S-4P) and by the group at the University of Toronto (2S-2P 1/2) have led to transition frequency data consistent with the smaller proton radius of about 0.84 fm. …

An olivine-type orthothiophospate LiMnPS4 has been synthesized for the first time through a building block approach by reacting preformed ternary lithium thiophospate with MnCl2. Diffuse reflectance measurements show an optical band gap of 2.36 eV, which is further confirmed by DFT calculations. Irreversible weak ferromagnetic ordering and metamagnetism are verified through preliminary magnetic measurements.

The next generation of galaxy surveys like the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument and Euclid will provide datasets orders of magnitude larger than anything available to date. Our ability to model nonlinear effects in late time matter perturbations will be a key to unlock the full potential of these datasets, and the area of initial condition reconstruction is attracting growing attention. Iterative reconstruction developed by Marcel Schmittfull et al. [Phys. Rev. D 96, 023505 (2017)PRVDAQ2470-001010.1103/PhysRevD.96.023505] is a technique designed to reconstruct the displacement field from the observed galaxy distribution. The nonlinear displacement field and initial linear density field are highly correlated. …

In the vicinity of a quantum critical point, quenched disorder can lead to a quantum Griffiths phase, accompanied by an exotic power-law scaling with a continuously varying dynamical exponent that diverges in the zero-temperature limit. Here, we investigate a nematic quantum critical point in the iron-based superconductor FeSe0.89S0.11 using applied hydrostatic pressure. We report an unusual crossing of the magneto resistivity isotherms in the Non superconducting normal state that features a continuously varying dynamical exponent over a large temperature range. We interpret our results in terms of a quantum Griffiths phase caused by nematic islands that result from the local …

Purpose: The main scientific goal of LHAASO-WCDA is to survey gamma-ray sources with energy from 100 GeV to 30 TeV. To observe high-energy shower events, especially to measure the energy spectrum of cosmic rays from 100 TeV to 10 PeV, a dynamic range extension system (WCDA++) is designed to use a 1.5-inch PMT with a dynamic range of four orders of magnitude for each cell in WCDA-1. Method: The dynamic range is extended by using these PMTs to measure the effective charge density in the core region of air shower events, which is an important parameter for identifying the composition …

We report on the implementation of a far-off-resonant, optical dipole force trap in a reaction microscope combined with a magneto-optical trap. Kinematically complete multi-photon ionization experiments were performed on optically trapped 6Li atoms and photo-associated 6Li2 molecules in their highest vibrational state. The apparatus allows us to distinguish different ionization mechanisms related to the presence of the IR field of the optical dipole trap that can occur during ionization of 6Li and 6Li2 in strong fields. In a series of proof-of-principle experiments, we detect weakly bound dimers via three-photon ionization with femtosecond pulses (τ = 30 fs) at a central …

We Study The Impact Of Beyond Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) Physics, Especially Due To Intercomponent Correlations, In The Ground State And The Quench Dynamics Of One-Dimensional Quantum Droplets With An Ab Initio Nonperturbative Approach. It Is Found That The Droplet Gaussian-Shaped Configuration Arising For Intercomponent Attractive Couplings Becomes Narrower For Stronger Intracomponent Repulsion And Transits Towards A Flat-Top Structure Either For Larger Particle Numbers Or Weaker Intercomponent Attraction. Additionally, A Harmonic Trap Prevents The Flat-Top Formation. At The Balance Point Where Mean-Field Interactions Cancel Out, We Show That A Correlation Hole Is Present In The Few-Particle Limit Of LHY Fluids As Well …

Ubiquitous to most molecular scattering methods is the challenge to retrieve bond distance and angle from the scattering signals since this requires convergence of pattern matching algorithms or fitting methods. This problem is typically exacerbated when imaging larger molecules or for dynamic systems with little a priori knowledge. Here, we employ laser-induced electron diffraction (LIED) which is a powerful means to determine the precise atomic configuration of an isolated gas-phase molecule with picometre spatial and attosecond temporal precision. We introduce a simple molecular retrieval method, which is based only on the identification of critical points in the oscillating molecular interference …

Machine learning has emerged as a popular and powerful approach for solving problems in astrophysics. We review applications of machine learning techniques for the analysis of ground-based gravitational-wave (GW) detector data. Examples include techniques for improving the sensitivity of Advanced Laser Interferometer GW Observatory and Advanced Virgo GW searches, methods for fast measurements of the astrophysical parameters of GW sources, and algorithms for reduction and characterization of non-astrophysical detector noise. These applications demonstrate how machine learning techniques may be harnessed to enhance the science that is possible with current and future GW detectors.

Triply differential data are presented for the 200 eV positron and electron impact ionization of argon. Six electron emission energies between 2.6 and 19 eV, and for scattering angles of 2, 3, and 4 degrees cover a momentum transfer range of 0.16 to 0.31 a.u. The binary and recoil intensities are fitted using a double peak structure in both regions, which, for the present kinematic conditions, are unresolved. The fitted peak intensities and angular positions are shown to have systematic dependences as a function of the momentum transfer and kinematic emission angle, respectively, and illustrate projectile charge effects. A comparison …

Chiral superconductors have been proposed as one pathway to realize Majorana normal fluid at its boundary. However, the long-sought 2D and 3D chiral superconductors with edge and surface Majorana normal fluid are yet to be conclusively found. Here, we report evidence for a chiral spin-triplet pairing state of UTe2 with surface normal fluid response. The microwave surface impedance of the UTe2 crystal was measured and converted to complex conductivity, which is sensitive to both normal and superfluid responses. The anomalous residual normal fluid conductivity supports the presence of a significant normal fluid response. The superfluid conductivity follows the …

Purpose: Observation of high energy and very high emission from Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) is crucial to study the gigantic explosion and the underline processes. With a large field-of-view and almost full duty cycle, the Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA), a sub-array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), is appropriate to monitor the very high energy emission from unpredictable transients such as GRBs. Method: Nevertheless, the main issue for an extensive air shower array is the high energy threshold which limits the horizon of the detector. To address this issue a new trigger method is developed in …

We performed a detailed analysis of the detectability of a wide range of gravitational waves derived from core-collapse supernova simulations using gravitational-wave detector noise scaled to the sensitivity of the upcoming fourth and fifth observing runs of the Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo, and KAGRA. We use the coherent WaveBurst algorithm, which was used in the previous observing runs to search for gravitational waves from core-collapse supernovae. As coherent WaveBurst makes minimal assumptions on the morphology of a gravitational-wave signal, it can play an important role in the first detection of gravitational waves from an event in the Milky Way. We …

A sampling system for measuring emissions of nonvolatile particulate matter (nvPM) from aircraft gas turbine engines has been developed to replace the use of smoke number and is used for international regulatory purposes. This sampling system can be up to 35 m in length. The sampling system length in addition to the volatile particle remover (VPR) and other sampling system components lead to substantial particle losses, which are a function of the particle size distribution, ranging from 50 to 90% for particle number concentrations and 10-50% for particle mass concentrations. The particle size distribution is dependent on engine technology, operating …

We consider few-photon ionization of atomic lithium by linearly polarized femtosecond laser pulses and demonstrate that asymmetries of the electron angular distribution can occur for initially polarized (2p, m=+1) target atoms. The dependence of the photoelectron emission angle relative to the electric field direction is investigated at different laser intensities and wavelengths. The experimental spectra show excellent agreement with numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. In the perturbative picture, the angular shift is traced back to interferences between partial waves with mean magnetic quantum number (m)≠0. This observation allows us to obtain quantum mechanical information on the final electronic …

The construction of catalogues of a particular type of galaxy can be complicated by interlopers contaminating the sample. In spectroscopic galaxy surveys this can be due to the misclassification of an emission line; for example in the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX) low-redshift [O ii] emitters may make up a few per cent of the observed Ly α emitter (LAE) sample. The presence of contaminants affects the measured correlation functions and power spectra. Previous attempts to deal with this using the cross-correlation function have assumed sources at a fixed redshift, or not modelled evolution within the adopted redshift bins. …

We report the discovery of an ultrahigh-energy (UHE) gamma-ray source, LHAASO J2108+5157, by analyzing the LHAASO-KM2A data of 308.33 live days. A significant excess of gamma ray-induced showers is observed in both energy bands of 25-100 and >100 TeV with 9.5σ and 8.5σ, respectively. This source is not significantly favored as an extended source with an angular extension smaller than the point-spread function of KM2A. The measured energy spectrum from 20 to 200 TeV can be approximately described by a power-law function with an index of-2.83 ± 0.18stat. A harder spectrum is demanded at lower energies considering the flux upper …

The Wide Field-of-View Cherenkov Telescope Array (WFCTA) and the Water Cherenkov Detector Array (WCDA) of LHAASO are designed to work in combination for measuring the energy spectra of the cosmic ray species over a very wide energy range from a few TeV to 10 PeV. The energy calibration can be achieved with a proven technique of measuring the westward shift of the Moon shadow cast by galactic cosmic rays due to the geomagnetic field. This deflection angle Δ is inversely proportional to the cosmic ray rigidity. The precise measurement of the shifts by WCDA allows us to calibrate its energy …

We Observe Experimentally The Spontaneous Formation Of Star-Shaped Surface Patterns In Driven Bose-Einstein Condensates. Two-Dimensional Star-Shaped Patterns With L-Fold Symmetry, Ranging From Quadrupole (L=2) To Heptagon Modes (L=7), Are Parametrically Excited By Modulating The Scattering Length Near The Feshbach Resonance. An Effective Mathieu Equation And Floquet Analysis Are Utilized, Relating The Instability Conditions To The Dispersion Of The Surface Modes In A Trapped Superfluid. Identifying The Resonant Frequencies Of The Patterns, We Precisely Measure The Dispersion Relation Of The Collective Excitations. The Oscillation Amplitude Of The Surface Excitations Increases Exponentially During The Modulation. We Find That Only The L=6 Mode …

Instrumental and environmental transient noise bursts in gravitational-wave (GW) detectors, or glitches, may impair astrophysical observations by adversely affecting the sky localization and the parameter estimation of GW signals. Denoising of detector data is especially relevant during low-latency operations because electromagnetic follow-up of candidate detections requires accurate, rapid sky localization and inference of astrophysical sources. NNETFIX is a machine learning, artificial neural network-based algorithm designed to estimate the data containing a transient GW signal with an overlapping glitch as though the glitch was absent. The sky localization calculated from the denoised data may be significantly more accurate than the sky …

We Study The Statistical Mechanics And The Dynamical Relaxation Process Of Modulationally Unstable One-Dimensional Quantum Droplets Described By A Modified Gross-Pitaevskii Equation. To Determine The Classical Partition Function Thereof, We Leverage The Semi-Analytical Transfer Integral Operator (TIO) Technique. The Latter Predicts A Distribution Of The Observed Wave-Function Amplitudes And Yields Two-Point Correlation Functions Providing Insights Into The Emergent Dynamics Involving Quantum Droplets. We Compare The Ensuing TIO Results With The Probability Distributions Obtained At Large Times Of The Modulationally Unstable Dynamics As Well As With The Equilibrium Properties Of A Suitably Constructed Langevin Dynamics. We Find That The Instability Leads …

Few-Body Correlations Emerging In Two-Dimensional Harmonically Trapped Mixtures, Are Comprehensively Investigated. The Presence Of The Trap Leads To The Formation Of Atom-Dimer And Trap States, In Addition To Trimers. The Tan's Contacts Of These Eigenstates Are Studied For Varying Interspecies Scattering Lengths And Mass Ratio, While Corresponding Analytical Insights Are Provided Within The Adiabatic Hyperspherical Formalism. The Two- And Three-Body Correlations Of Trimer States Are Substantially Enhanced Compared To The Other Eigenstates. The Two-Body Contact Of The Atom-Dimer And Trap States Features An Upper Bound Regardless Of The Statistics, Treated Semi-Classically And Having An Analytical Prediction In The Limit Of …

We Unravel The Polaronic Properties Of Impurities Immersed In A Correlated Trapped One-Dimensional Bose-Bose Mixture. This Setup Allows The Impurities To Couple Either Attractively Or Repulsively To A Specific Host, Thus Offering A Highly Flexible Platform For Steering The Emergent Polaronic Properties. Specifically, The Impurity Residue Peak And Strength Of Induced Interactions Can Be Controlled By Varying The Coupling Of The Impurities To The Individual Bosonic Components. In Particular, It Is Possible To Maintain The Quasiparticle Character For Larger Interaction Strengths As Compared To The Case Of Impurities Immersed In A Single Bosonic Species. We Explicate A Hierarchy Of The …

We report the discovery of a new unidentified extended γ-ray source in the Galactic plane named LHAASO J0341+5258 with a pretrial significance of 8.2 standard deviations above 25 TeV. The best-fit position is R.A. = 55. 34 0. 11 and decl. = 52. 97 0. 07. The angular size of LHAASO J0341+5258 is 0. 29 0. 06stat 0. 02sys. The flux above 25 TeV is about 20% of the flux of the Crab Nebula. Although a power-law fit of the spectrum from 10 to 200 TeV with the photon index α = 2.98 0.19stat 0.02sys is not excluded, the LHAASO …

An experimental procedure is reported, which provides the absolute triple differential cross sections (ATDCSs) for electron-impact ionization of large (bio)molecules. This type of measurements represents the most stringent tests for new or existing theoretical models. We will use this procedure to test the accuracy of the best currently available theoretical models for the problems of electron-impact (65 eV) ionization of the molecules water (H2O), tetrahydrofuran (C4H8O), and their hydrogen-bonded dimer H2O · C4H8O. The cross sections were calculated using the molecular three-body distorted-wave (M3DW) model, the multicenter three-distorted-wave …

We report results from searches for anisotropic stochastic gravitational-wave backgrounds using data from the first three observing runs of the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors. For the first time, we include Virgo data in our analysis and run our search with a new efficient pipeline called pystoch on data folded over one sidereal day. We use gravitational-wave radiometry (broadband and narrow band) to produce sky maps of stochastic gravitational-wave backgrounds and to search for gravitational waves from point sources. A spherical harmonic decomposition method is employed to look for gravitational-wave emission from spatially-extended sources. Neither technique found evidence of …
