In this thesis, I will discuss the study I conducted from June 2, 2003 to July 31, 2003 at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Dean A. McGee Eye Institute, facilitated by Dr. Michael Elliott, funded by the Undergraduate Biomedical Education Program at Langston University, expressing and purifying GST-Cav~olin fusion proteins on a large-scale. Caveolins are the principle constituents of caveolae. Caveolae are flask-shaped invaginations of the plasma membrane. Caveolae are most abundant in endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and myocytes (Smart et al. 1999). Analysis Of The Effects Of Hypogeal And Epigeal Emergence On Seedling Competition In Legumes, Keith E. King

Seedling emergence is either hypogeal or epigeal. In hypogeal emergence the cotyledons remain below the soil surface during seedling development, while in epigeal emergence the cotyledons extend above the soil surface due to elongation of the hypocotyl. Here we examine the effect of seed size, and emergence type, on seedling growth. Six legumes with variation in seed size and either epigeal or hypogeal emergence were grown under dark and light conditions. A competition study was also conducted where a hypogeal and epigeal legume were grown in combination with wheat and ryegrass. Cyclohexanone, the central component of the compound 2-methyl-2-methylacrylylcyclohexanone-( l,5)-diaxaspiro mononeopentyl (see figure on page 2), serves as a solvent for oil in piston type aircraft and in natural and vinyl resins. It is used in the production of crude rubber, waxes, fats, shellac and DDT and other pesticides. Cyclohexanone also is a part of the production of adipic acid, which is used to prepare nylon and is used to prepare cyclohexanone resins via condensation to enhance the adhesive properties of products like floor paints.

Dapsone is a drug which has recently been discovered as a potential treatment for the disease of leprosy. Many of the derivatives of dapsone have been sent to the United States by Dr. M. Muhundam and Professor M.S.R. Naidu of the Department of Chemistry, S.V. University, Tirupati, India, for structure analysis. One such derivative is (E)-3-[2-[(4-Chlorophenyl) sulphonyl] ethenyl]-4H-l-benzopyran-4-one, which will hereafter be referred to as MM3. Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of this research is to determine effects of amaranth grain of the body weight and organ weight of the Mongolian gerbil. The literature research indicates that amaranth results in physiological changes that appear to be species-specific rather than general. Since the gerbil is a granivorous animal, it is hypothesized that amaranth will be completely digested and that its nutritional quality will maintain normal to increased growth. While the results of this study cannot be applied to other animals, information has been gained with regard to the influence of amaranth grain on the Mongolian gerbil.
