Study On Algebras With Retractions And Planes Over A Dvr., Prosenjit Das Dr. Dec 2010

Study On Algebras With Retractions And Planes Over A Dvr., Prosenjit Das Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Aim:The main aim of this thesis is to study the following problems:1. For a Noetherian ring R, to find a set of minimal sufficient fibre conditions for an R-algebra with a retraction to R to be an A1-fibration over R.2. To investigate sufficient conditions for a factorial A1-form, with a retraction to the base ring, to be A1.3. To investigate whether planes of the form b(X, Y)Zn – a(X, Y) are co- ordinate planes in the polynomial ring in three variables X, Y and Z over a discrete valuation ring. The 1st problem will be discussed in Chapter 3 entitled Codimension- …

Estimation Of Quality Adjusted Lifetime (Qal) Distribution., Biswabrata Pradhan Dr. Sep 2010

Estimation Of Quality Adjusted Lifetime (Qal) Distribution., Biswabrata Pradhan Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Quality Adjusted Lifetime (QAL)Normally, overall survival time is considered as the end point for many clinical trials to study the effectiveness of different treatments. If the survival time passes through different health states, which differ in their quality of life, then other endpoints are also considered for treatment comparison, which incorporates both quality and duration of life. It is, therefore, necessary to provide a composite measure for comparison of different treatment choices, specially in the context of clinical trials, after taking into account both quality and duration of life. This issue has been first addressed by Gelber and coauthors in …

Cannon-Thurston Maps And Relative Hyperbolicity., Abhijit Pal Dr. Aug 2010

Cannon-Thurston Maps And Relative Hyperbolicity., Abhijit Pal Dr.

Doctoral Theses

Let P : Y → T be a tree of strongly relatively hyperbolic spaces such that Y is also a strongly relatively hyperbolic space. Let X be a vertex space and i : X ֒→ Y denote the inclusion. The main aim of this thesis is to extend i to a continuous map i : X → Y , where X and Y are the Gromov compactifications of X and Y respectively. Such continuous extensions are called Cannon-Thurston maps. This is a generalization of [Mit98b] which proves the existence of Cannon-Thurston maps for X and Y hyperbolic. By generalizing a …

Single And Multiobjective Approaches To Clustering With Point Symmetry., Sriparna Saha Dr. Aug 2010

Single And Multiobjective Approaches To Clustering With Point Symmetry., Sriparna Saha Dr.

Doctoral Theses

In our every day life, we make decisions consciously or unconsciously. This decision can be very simple such as selecting the color of dress or deciding the menu for lunch, or may be as difficult as those involved in designing a missile or in selecting a career. The former decision is easy to take, while the latter one might take several years due to the level of complexity involved in it. The main goal of most kinds of decision-making is to optimize one or more criteria in order to achieve the desired result. In other words, problems related to optimization …

Gender Bias In Education In West Bengal., Chayanika Mitra Dr. Jun 2010

Gender Bias In Education In West Bengal., Chayanika Mitra Dr.

Doctoral Theses

There exists a vast literature with evidences of gender discrimination against females in allocation of goods and services at regional/national level in India. Evidence of gender bias on Indian data include, among many others, studies by Subramanian and Deaton (1991), Azam and Kingdon (2013), Kingdon (2005), Drèze and Kingdon (2001), Zimmerman (2012) and Lancaster, Maitra, and Ray (2008). India has a history of preference for sons over daughters for cultural and economic reasons. This is manifested through high birth sex ratios, which is possibly a result of female foeticide. The child sex ratio is within the normal natural range in …

Fast Placement And Floorplanning Methods In Modern Reconfigurable Fpgas., Pritha Baneerjee Dr. Jun 2010

Fast Placement And Floorplanning Methods In Modern Reconfigurable Fpgas., Pritha Baneerjee Dr.

Doctoral Theses

FPGA Field-programmable gate-arrays (FPGA) are programmable hardware platforms with pre-fabricated logic and interconnects, which are electrically programmed by the user to realize a variety of circuits frequently required in a wide range of applications. Unlike application-specific integrated-circuits (ASICs), where realization of a circuit design takes several man-hours and enormous effort, the pre-fabricated logic and interconnects can be quickly programmed according to the design specification and made functional. Thus, in contrast to the ASICs, FPGAs can be customized and reconfigured depending on the need of the user. A basic FPGA chip consists of a set of configurable logic blocks (CLB) and …

Sequences Of Positive Integers Containing No K-Term Arithmetic Progressions And Smooth Numbers In Short Intervals., Goutam Pal Dr. Feb 2010

Sequences Of Positive Integers Containing No K-Term Arithmetic Progressions And Smooth Numbers In Short Intervals., Goutam Pal Dr.

Doctoral Theses

In my thesis I have worked on two problems:1. On sequences of positive integers containing no k terms in arithmetic progressions.2. On smooth numbers in short intervals. The first two chapters of my thesis deal with the first problem and in the rest of the thesis I have focused on the 2nd problem. In the first chapter of my thesis I have considered the function rk(N) for a fixed k ≥ 3, where, by definition, rk(N) is the cardinality of a maximal subset of N consecutive natural numbers with the property that nork terms of it are in an Arithmetic Progression (A. …

Application Of Combinatorial Structures To Key Predistribution In Sensor Networks And Traitor Tracing., Sushmita Ruj Dr. Feb 2010

Application Of Combinatorial Structures To Key Predistribution In Sensor Networks And Traitor Tracing., Sushmita Ruj Dr.

Doctoral Theses

From time immemorial people have used cryptography for secure communication. Cryptography has decided the fate of many kings and queens as well as the outcome of various wars. It has become all the more important nowadays, with the growing need of electronic communication. We now live in a society where electronic networks pervade all aspects of our professional and private lives. We all use cryptography when we do bank transfers by ATM, or SWIFT, while using the mobile phones and i-phones, SSL protocols or using password protected machines. Though electronic communication is fast and easy, it is vulnerable to security …
