Grounded Ontology – A Proposed Methodology For Emergent Ontology Engineering, Syed Irfan Nabi, Zaheeruddin Asif Jul 2014

Grounded Ontology – A Proposed Methodology For Emergent Ontology Engineering, Syed Irfan Nabi, Zaheeruddin Asif

Business Review

This research posits that a domain ontology developed using text-coding technique contributes in conceptualizing and representing state-of-the-art as given by published research in a particular domain. The motivation behind this research is to provide means for creating a better understanding among the researchers through ontology that would present a clearer picture of any domain of interest. However, a general observation on ontology engineering methods is the domination of personal perspective of ontology developer and/or expert in the resultant ontology. Current ontology engineering methods bestow a primary role to ontology developer. Ontology thus developed is heavily biased towards the domain expert’s …

An Information Technology (It) Based Approach For Enhancing Prompt And Effective Post-Disaster Reconstruction, Faisal Manzoor Arain Jul 2011

An Information Technology (It) Based Approach For Enhancing Prompt And Effective Post-Disaster Reconstruction, Faisal Manzoor Arain

Business Review

Information technology (IT) has become strongly established as a supporting tool for many professional tasks in recent years. One application of IT, namely the knowledge management system, has attracted significant attention requiring further exploration as it has the potential to enhance processes, based on the expertise of the decision-makers. A knowledge management system can undertake intelligent tasks in a specific domain that is normally performed by highly skilled people. Typically, the success of such a system relies on the ability to represent the knowledge for a particular subject. Post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation is a complex issue with several dimensions. Government, …

Gradient-Based Edge Detection On A Hexagonal Structure, Xiangjian He, Qiang Wu, Tom Hintz, Wenjing Jia Jan 2008

Gradient-Based Edge Detection On A Hexagonal Structure, Xiangjian He, Qiang Wu, Tom Hintz, Wenjing Jia

Business Review

Gradient-based edge detection is a straightforward method to identify the edge points in the original grey-level image. It is intuitive that in the human vision system the edge points always appear where the grey-level value is greatly changed. Spiral Architecture is a relatively new image data structure that is inspired from anatomical considerations of the primate’s vision. In Spiral Architecture, each image is represented as a collection of hexagonal pixels. Edge detection on Spiral Architecture has features of fast computation and accurate localization. In this paper, we review the gradient-based edge detection algorithms on Spiral Architecture. An edge point is …
