Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A simple indirect atomic absorption spectrophotometric (AAS) method is described for the analysis of nimodipine in tablet formulations. The method is based on the reduction of the antihypertensive drug substances including an aromatic nitro group by boiling them with cadmium metal in 0.05 N HC??l medium under CO_2 atmosphere for 1 h under reflux. The amounts of the drugs were calculated by determining the atomic absorbances of the released Cd^{+2}. The calibration graphs were plotted between the absorbance Cd^{+2} concentrations in the range of 0.242 to 1.209 \mu g.cm^{-3} for nimodipine. As a reference method, the spectrophotometric procedure was developed. …

Anodic Stripping Voltammetric Behavior Of Mercury In Chloride Medium And Its Determination At A Gold Film Electrode, Füsun Okçu, F. Ni̇l Ertaş, H. İsmet Gökçel, Hüseyi̇n Tural

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The electrochemical behavior of aqueous Hg(II) ions at a gold film electrode is described. The effects of supporting electrolyte and halide ions on the anodic stripping voltammetric behavior of Hg(II) ions was illustrated to prepare a basis for the analysis in real samples with high saline content. The concentration ratio of metallic mercury to halide ions at the electrode surface determines the resulting peak characteristics. The peak potentials in particular shift in a more negative direction as the halide concentration increases. A comparative study with Cu(II) ions revealed that a different mechanism is involved in their reoxidation steps. Mercuric ions …

An Unusual Pentacyclic Dinitrogenous Alkaloid From Galanthus Gracilis, Nehi̇r Ünver, Gülen İrem Kaya

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A minor alkaloid, namely gracilamine, was isolated from Galanthus gracilis. This was the first example of a pentacyclic dinitrogenous alkaloid isolated from a member of Amaryllidaceae. The structure of this alkaloid was elucidated by means of comprehensive spectroscopic methods (1D and 2D NMR, MS, UV, IR).
