Deep neural networks (DNNs) are continuously expanding their application to various domains due to their high performance. Nevertheless, a well-trained DNN after deployment could oftentimes raise errors during practical use in the operational environment due to the mismatching between distributions of the training dataset and the potential unknown noise factors in the operational environment, e.g., weather, blur, noise, etc. Hence, it poses a rather important problem for the DNNs' real-world applications: how to repair the deployed DNNs for correcting the failure samples under the deployed operational environment while not harming their capability of handling normal or clean data with limited …

Investigating The Adoption Of Hybrid Encrypted Cloud Data Deduplication With Game Theory, Xueqin Liang, Zheng Yan, Robert H. Deng, Qinghu Zheng

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Encrypted data deduplication, along with different preferences in data access control, brings the birth of hybrid encrypted cloud data deduplication (H-DEDU for short). However, whether H-DEDU can be successfully deployed in practice has not been seriously investigated. Obviously, the adoption of H-DEDU depends on whether it can bring economic benefits to all stakeholders. But existing economic models of cloud storage fail to support H-DEDU due to complicated interactions among stakeholders. In this article, we establish a formal economic model of H-DEDU by formulating the utilities of all involved stakeholders, i.e., data holders, data owners, and Cloud Storage Providers (CSPs). Then, …

Integrating Self-Organizing Neural Network And Motivated Learning For Coordinated Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning In Multi-Stage Stochastic Game, Teck-Hou Teng, Ah-Hwee Tan, Janusz A. Starzyk, Yuan-Sin Tan, Loo-Nin Teow Jul 2014

Integrating Self-Organizing Neural Network And Motivated Learning For Coordinated Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning In Multi-Stage Stochastic Game, Teck-Hou Teng, Ah-Hwee Tan, Janusz A. Starzyk, Yuan-Sin Tan, Loo-Nin Teow

Most non-trivial problems require the coordinated performance of multiple goal-oriented and time-critical tasks. Coordinating the performance of the tasks is required due to the dependencies among the tasks and the sharing of resources. In this work, an agent learns to perform a task using reinforcement learning with a self-organizing neural network as the function approximator. We propose a novel coordination strategy integrating Motivated Learning (ML) and a self-organizing neural network for multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL). Specifically, we adapt the ML idea of using pain signal to overcome the resource competition issue. Dependency among the agents is resolved using domain knowledge …

Using User Saliency For Effective Oled Display Power Management, Kiat Wee Tan Jan 2014

Using User Saliency For Effective Oled Display Power Management, Kiat Wee Tan

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

The display component on mobile device has always been a main power drain compared to networking and processing components. Even with advancement in display technology such as Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) displays to help reduce this cost, the increasing display size and new mobile usage paradigm (App stores and Social networking), the display still remains as the largest power drain component. In this thesis, we describe an approach to reduce power consumption on OLED display by dimming areas of the screen that the user might not be interested in. We determine these uninteresting areas by reviewing large number applications …

We present FAME, a comprehensive C# software library package providing soft formation control for large flocks of agents. While many existing available libraries provide means to create flocks of agent equipped with simple steering behavior, none so far, to the best of our knowledge, provides an easy and hassle free approach to control the formation of the flock. Here, besides the basic flocking mechanisms, FAME provides an extensive range of advanced features that gives enhanced soft formation control over multiple flocks. These soft formation features include defining flocks in any user-defined formation, automated self-organizing agent within formation, manipulating formation shape …

Dynamic Lookahead Mechanism For Conserving Power In Multi-Player Mobile Games, Karthik Thirugnanam, Bhojan Anand, Jeena Sebastian, Pravein Kannan, Akhihebbal L. Ananda, Rajesh Krishna Balan, Mun Choon Chan Mar 2012

As the current generation of mobile smartphones become more powerful, they are being used to perform more resource intensive tasks making battery lifetime a major bottleneck. In this paper, we present a technique called dynamic AoV lookahead for reducing wireless interface power consumption up to 50% while playing a popular, yet resource intensive, mobile multiplayer games.

Sequence Alignment Based Analysis Of Player Behavior In Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (Mmorpgs), Kyong Jin Shim, Jaideep Srivastava Dec 2010

Sequence Alignment Based Analysis Of Player Behavior In Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (Mmorpgs), Kyong Jin Shim, Jaideep Srivastava

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

This study proposes a sequence alignment-based behavior analysis framework (SABAF) developed for predicting inactive game players that either leave the game permanently or stop playing the game for a long period of time. Sequence similarity scores and derived statistics form profile databases of inactive players and active players from the past. SABAF uses global and local sequence alignment algorithms and a unique scoring scheme to measure similarity between activity sequences. SABAF is tested on the game player activity data of Ever Quest II, a popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment. SABAF consists of the following …

Computer games and simulations can be valuable teaching and communication tools, and they are a powerful form of self-expression. Unfortunately, creating games requires programming, and programming requires time and skill. Some tools facilitate game creation to motivate novice programmers, but programming is still necessary. Other systems require less programming, but they are narrowly focused. To enable faster, simpler, and more expressive tools for professionals and amateurs, we have explored the processes and tools used in the early stages of game and simulation design. Interviews with educators clarified the uses of simulations in the classroom, while interviews with professional game designers …
