Route Validation Using Radio Frequency Identification, William T. Watson Dec 2007

Route Validation Using Radio Frequency Identification, William T. Watson

Theses and Dissertations

In recent years, radio frequency identification (RFID) has been proposed and implemented in a variety of applications where tracking objects, animals or people is desirable. This paper proposes a novel approach to the application of RFID tech- nology in those applications where it is possible to validate a person or an object's passive contact with a given or arbitrary set of fixed points along a predefined route. The notable departure from the typical application of RFID technology is that in this scheme, the transponders are permanently installed while the interrogator is affixed to a person or object that travels the …

Rss Management: An Rss Reader To Manage Rss Feeds That Efficiently And Effectively Pulls And Filters Feeds With Minimal Bandwidth Consumption, Brian Cooper Dec 2007

Rss Management: An Rss Reader To Manage Rss Feeds That Efficiently And Effectively Pulls And Filters Feeds With Minimal Bandwidth Consumption, Brian Cooper

Theses and Dissertations

In the early 2000s, RSS (Really Simple Syndication) was launched into cyber space and rapidly gained fame by existing as the underlying technology that fueled millions of web logs (blogs). Soon RSS feeds appeared for news, multimedia podcasting, and many other types of information on the Internet. RSS introduced a new way to syndicate information that allowed anyone interested to subscribe to published content and pull the information to an aggregator, (RSS reader application), at their discretion. RSS made it simple for people to keep up with online content without having to continuously check websites for new content. This new …

Stratification Of Southern Georgia Streams For Rapid Bioassessment Focusing On Differences In Structure And Function Of Black Water And Clear Water Streams, Salini Pradeep Pillai Feb 2007

Stratification Of Southern Georgia Streams For Rapid Bioassessment Focusing On Differences In Structure And Function Of Black Water And Clear Water Streams, Salini Pradeep Pillai

Theses and Dissertations

As part of a rapid bioassessment project for the state of Georgia, relatively unimpaired reference streams and impaired sites were sampled for biological, chemical and physical parameters, and macroinvertebrates were identified. The metrics, biological, physical and chemical metrics, were selected using Ecological Data Application System Version 3.3.2k (EDAS). Discrimination efficiency and correlations were performed to determine the best metrics that separated impaired streams from reference streams and later on to form the index of stream water quality. Principal components analysis of the selected metrics showed that some of the blackwater reference streams and clearwater reference streams are randomly placed over …

Heron Triangles With Two Fixed Sides, Eugen J. Ionascu Jan 2007

Heron Triangles With Two Fixed Sides, Eugen J. Ionascu

Faculty Bibliography

In this paper, we study the function H(a, b), which associates to every pair of positive integers a and b the number of positive integers c such that the triangle of sides a, b and c is Heron, i.e., has integral area. In particular, we prove that H(p, q) ≤ 5 if p and q are primes, and that H(a, b) = 0 for a random choice of positive integers a and b.

A Parametrization Of Equilateral Triangles Having Integer Coordinates., Eugen J. Ionascu Jan 2007

A Parametrization Of Equilateral Triangles Having Integer Coordinates., Eugen J. Ionascu

Faculty Bibliography

We study the existence of equilateral triangles of given side lengths and with integer coordinates in dimension three. We show that such a triangle exists if and only if their side lengths are of the form p 2(m2 − mn + n2) for some integers m, n. We also show a similar characterization for the sides of a regular tetrahedron in Z 3 : such a tetrahedron exists if and only if the sides are of the form k √ 2, for some k ∈ N. The classification of all the equilateral triangles in Z 3 contained in a given …

Pollution Status Of Tinishu Akaki River And Its Tributaries (Ethiopia) Evaluated Using Physicochemical Parameters, Major Ions, And Nutrients, Samuel Abegaz Jan 2007

Pollution Status Of Tinishu Akaki River And Its Tributaries (Ethiopia) Evaluated Using Physicochemical Parameters, Major Ions, And Nutrients, Samuel Abegaz

Faculty Bibliography

The present investigation provides data on physico-chemical parameters, some major ions and nutrients on water samples of Tinishu Akaki River (TAR), Ethiopia. The pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD), Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3- , SO42-, NO3- , NO2- , PO43-, Cland NH3 have been determined to asses the chemical status and pollution levels of the TAR and its tributaries. The values of certain parameters have been evaluated with respect to the acceptable standard limits for drinking and surface water to indicate the pollution level of the TAR. Increasing …

A Proof Of Two Conjectures Related To Erdos-Debrunner Inequality, Eugen J. Ionascu Jan 2007

A Proof Of Two Conjectures Related To Erdos-Debrunner Inequality, Eugen J. Ionascu

Faculty Bibliography

In this paper we prove some results which imply two conjectures proposed by Janous on an extension to the p-th power-mean of the Erdös–Debrunner inequality relating the areas of the four sub-triangles formed by connecting three arbitrary points on the sides of a given triangle.

Volcanic Arc Emplacement Onto The Southernmost Appalachian Laurentian Shelf: Characteristics And Constraints., Clinton Barineau Jan 2007

Volcanic Arc Emplacement Onto The Southernmost Appalachian Laurentian Shelf: Characteristics And Constraints., Clinton Barineau

Faculty Bibliography

In the southernmost Appalachians, the Hillabee Greenstone, an Ordovician volcanic arc fragment, lies directly atop the outermost Laurentian Devonian–earliest Mississippian(?) shelf sequence at the structural top of the greenschist facies Talladega belt, the frontal metamorphic allochthon along this orogenic segment. The Hillabee Greenstone was emplaced between latest Devonian and middle Mississippian time. It and the uppermost Laurentian section were later repeated together within a series of map-scale imbricate slices of a postmetamorphic, dextral, transpressional, Alleghanian thrust duplex system that placed the high-grade eastern Blue Ridge allochthon atop the Talladega belt. Geochemical and geochronologic (U-Pb zircon) studies indicate that the Hillabee …

Applying The Levels Of Conceptual Interoperability Model In Support Of Integratability, Interoperability, And Composability For System-Of-Systems Engineering, Charles D. Turnitsa Jan 2007

Applying The Levels Of Conceptual Interoperability Model In Support Of Integratability, Interoperability, And Composability For System-Of-Systems Engineering, Charles D. Turnitsa

Faculty Bibliography

The Levels of Conceptual Interoperability Model (LCIM) was developed to cope with the different layers of interoperation of modeling & simulation applications. It introduced technical, syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, dynamic, and conceptual layers of interoperation and showed how they are related to the ideas of integratability, interoperability, and composability. The model was successfully applied in various domains of systems, cybernetics, and informatics.
