This work presents a service oriented scientific workflow approach to NMR-based metabolomics data analysis. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach by implementing several common spectral processing techniques in the cloud using a parallel map-reduce framework, Hadoop.

Trypanosoma cruzi is a protozoan parasite that causes Chagas disease or American trypanosomiasis, which is the leading cause of death in Latin America. The primary objective of this study is to create an ontology-driven information infrastructure to support parasite researchers in identifying gene knockout, vaccination, or drug targets for T. cruzi. This involves querying across multiple datasets from diverse sources, such as proteome, pathway, internal lab data, etc. that are often represented in heterogeneous formats. The ability to rise from a chair is an important parameter to assess the balance deficits of a person. In particular, this can be an indication of risk for falling in elderly persons. Our goal is automated assessment of fall risk using video data. Towards this goal, we present a simple yet effective method of detecting transition, i.e. sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit, from image frames using fuzzy clustering methods on image moments. The LOD cloud has a potential for applicability in many AI-related tasks, such as open domain question answering, knowledge discovery, and the Semantic Web. An important prerequisite before the LOD cloud can enable these goals is allowing its users (and applications) to effectively pose queries to and retrieve answers from it. The electrical resistivity values for a series of pure and doped (Co, Mn, Al) ZnO epitaxial films grown by pulsed laser deposition were measured with equipment designed for determining the direct current resistivity of high resistance samples. Room-temperature resistances ranging from 7 x 10(1) to 4 x 10(8) Omega/sq were measured on vacuum-reduced cobalt-doped ZnO, (Al,Co) co-doped ZnO, pure cobalt-doped ZnO, Mn-doped ZnO, and undoped ZnO. Using a four-point collinear geometry with gold spring-loaded contacts, resistivities were measured from 295 to 5 K for resistances of < approximately 10(12) Omega/sq. In addition, magnetoresistance and Hall effect were measured as a function of temperature for select samples. Throughout the investigation, samples were also measured on commercially available instrumentation with good agreement. The challenges of transport measurements on high resistivity samples are discussed, along with some offered solutions to those challenges.

Data provenance graphs are form of metadata that can be used to establish a variety of properties of data products that undergo sequences of transformations, typically specified as workflows. Their usefulness for answering user provenance queries is limited, however, unless the graphs are enhanced with domain-specific annotations. In this paper we propose a model and architecture for semantic, domain-aware provenance, and demonstrate its usefulness in answering typical user queries. Furthermore, we discuss the additional benefits and the technical implications of publishing provenance graphs as a form of Linked Data. A number of government, corporate, and academic organizations are collecting enormous amounts of data provided by environmental sensors. However, this data is too often locked within organizations and underutilized by the greater community. In this paper, we present a framework to make this sensor data openly accessible by publishing it on the Linked Open Data (LOD) Cloud. This is accomplished by converting raw sensor observations to RDF and linking with other datasets on LOD. With such a framework, organizations can make large amounts of sensor data openly accessible, thus allowing greater opportunity for utilization and analysis.

For my class of one-sided 1 - α confidence intervals with a certain monotonicity ordering on the random confidence limit, the smallest interval, in the sense of the set inclusion for the difference of two proportions of two independent binomial random variables, is constructed based on a direct analysis of coverage probability function. Fibropapillomatosis (FP) is a panzootic plaguing all species of sea turtles with green turtles having the highest percentage of affliction. Although fibropapilloma-associated turtle herpes virus (FPTHV) has been identified as the causative agent of FP, the primary vector triggering this chronic tumor-forming disease is still unknown. Parasitic marine leeches (Ozobranchus spp.) could be a potential mechanical vector behind the emergence of this panzootic, although it is uncertain if it is species specific.
