Decision Support For Flood Control Operation Of A Multi-Purpose Reservoir Considering Operational One-Week Ensemble Forecast Of Precipitation, Yuya Nishioka, Daisuke Nohara, Tomoharu Hori, Yoshinobu Sato

International Conference on Hydroinformatics

atoMulti-purpose reservoirs, which are operated for both of flood control and water use purposes, play an important role in water resources management. Consideration of operational hydrological predictions can potentially provide an improvement in operations of a multi-purpose reservoir by allowing adaptive operation according to the predicted future condition of the reservoir and the target river basin. In this paper, a decision support tool for flood control operation of a multi-purpose reservoir considering middle-range operational ensemble prediction is proposed. One-week Ensemble Forecast of precipitation, which is provided by Japan Meteorological Agency with 51 ensemble members for the coming eight days, is …

Predicting Iron And Manganese Accumulation Potential In Water Distribution Networks Using Artificial Neural Network, Prasad Devi Tumula, Ebenezer Danso-Amoako Aug 2014

Predicting Iron And Manganese Accumulation Potential In Water Distribution Networks Using Artificial Neural Network, Prasad Devi Tumula, Ebenezer Danso-Amoako

International Conference on Hydroinformatics

In April 2010 the Water Services Regulation Authority in England and Wales, OFWAT, introduced the Service Incentive Mechanism (SIM) which rates water companies on their performance based on customer satisfaction and either reward or penalise them. In view of this, it has become extremely important for water companies to lower customer complaints due to drinking water discolouration; which is approximately 34% of all customer complaints. Presently, most water companies identify high discolouration risk regions in water distribution networks (WDNs) by selecting areas in the network with high Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) concentrations from their random sampling. With about 315,000 …

Development Of A Model-Based Decision Support System For Water Treatment In Smart Micro Water Grid, Hyeongrak Cho, Jungwoo Jung, Sangho Lee, Soo Kwen Chae

International Conference on Hydroinformatics

Micro water grid (MWG) is an emerging concept for decentralized water management system for residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional buildings. MWG achieves specific local goals, such as reliability, diversification of water sources, and cost reduction. Unlike micro electricity grid, MWG has not been well-established, leading to a problem of initial design and operation. Thus, a MWG system requires a “smart” infrastructure that allows autonomous control and regulation. In this study, a decision support system (DSS) was designed to select optimum combinations of water treatment unit processes in MWG. To begin, key questions on water treatment in MWG systems were identified. …
