Letter: A Developing Schism In Flood Geology, Marcus R. Ross
Letter: A Developing Schism In Flood Geology, Marcus R. Ross
Marcus R. Ross
First paragraph: Froede and Akridge are correct to recognize that creation geology includes two widely divergent groups seeking to reconstruct Earth history within a Biblical framework. Such has been the case throughout the history of creationism, going back to disagreements between Harold Clark and George McCready Price over the reality (or not) of the geologic column. With the increased number of geologically trained young-Earth creationists, discussions over these issues have become more common.

The important identity of a responsible media is playing an unbiased role in reporting a matter without giving unnecessary hype to attract the attention of the gullible public with the object of making money and money only. After reporting properly the media can educate the public to form their own opinion in the matters of public interest. Throughout the centuries, the world has never existed without information and communication, hence the inexhaustible essence of mass media. The government has the power to either make or reject whatever that will exist within its environment. It also determines how free the mass media …

Providing technical know-how to non-technical researchers to promote and preserve their collections online is an emerging niche librarians are filling. Digital humanities partners are sometimes external to the library’s institution. DePaul University Library assisted researchers at the National University of Ireland, Galway in preserving their catalogue of Vincentian documents by migrating metadata from an unstable server to Omeka.net, a hosted web publishing platform designed for cultural institutions. The library proposed Omeka.net after considering the collection’s requirements, the technical abilities of the researchers and their budget. The library contributed their expertise of metadata by analyzing, re-encoding, and cross-walking metadata to Dublin …

Al-Khwarizmi: Founder Of Classical Algebra, Calvin Jongsma
Faculty Work Comprehensive List
Adopting a historically defensible definition of “algebra,” we will begin by exploring a few examples of algebra prior to al-Khwarizmi. We will then examine what algebra became through al-Khwarizmi’s work. In conclusion, we will assess the historical importance of al-Khwarizmi’s contributions for developments in European algebra.
Why I Am Not A Materialist, John Cramer Dr.
Why I Am Not A Materialist, John Cramer Dr.
Oglethorpe Journal of Undergraduate Research
Materialism is a world view that insists the world is nothing but matter. My purpose here is to show it is not a viable world view. Its monism creates severe difficulties for it, centered on the nature of the human mind and the truth of beliefs. Nor is it fit for human consumption because it denies human uniqueness and denigrates human needs.

The Fine-Tuning Of Nomic Behavior In Multiverse Scenarios, Max Lewis Edward Andrews
The Fine-Tuning Of Nomic Behavior In Multiverse Scenarios, Max Lewis Edward Andrews
Masters Theses
The multiverse hypothesis (the view that there is not just one world or universe in existence, bur rather that there are many) is the leading alternative to the competing fine-tuning hypothesis (the laws of physics and constants are fine-tuned for the existence of life). The multiverse dispels many aspects of the fine-tuning argument by suggesting that there are different initial conditions in each universe, varying constants of physics, and the laws of nature lose their known arbitrary values; thus, making the previous single-universe argument from fine- tuning incredibly weak. The position that will be advocated will be that a form …

Transubstantiation And Quantum Physics: The Parallels Of Mystery In Religion And Science, Zachary Sexton
Transubstantiation And Quantum Physics: The Parallels Of Mystery In Religion And Science, Zachary Sexton
Spring 2013, Science and Religion
As the study of physics has progressed into the abstract realm of quanta, some have argued that the notion of transubstantiation is an unreasonable understanding of the Eucharist. However, when confronted with the uncertainty that modern physics presents, sharp parallels between this uncertainty and the metaphysical mysteries of transubstantiation. If it is reasonable to accept uncertainty in quantum physics, then it should be reasonable to accept the mysteries within the metaphysical world.
Justified By Faith: The Upper Susquehanna Lutheran Synod And The Pennsylvania Natural Gas Fracking Controversy, Lena R. Connor
Justified By Faith: The Upper Susquehanna Lutheran Synod And The Pennsylvania Natural Gas Fracking Controversy, Lena R. Connor
Pomona Senior Theses
An exercise in applied Christian ecotheology, this thesis focuses on a community of Lutheran church bodies (ELCA) in North Central Pennsylvania as they grappled with natural gas hydraulic fracturing in the summer of 2012. In the paper, I employ a combination of theological, environmental, historical, and ethnographic research methodologies to ground my analysis of how this synod of Lutherans to date has approached the fracking boom. My primary research question is: How might the Upper Susquehanna Synod of the ELCA--as a representative body of 131 Lutheran churches that are steeped in tradition--use its history, community involvement, theology, and church structure …

Initial Conditions For A Post-Flood Rapid Ice Age, Steven M. Gollmer
Initial Conditions For A Post-Flood Rapid Ice Age, Steven M. Gollmer
Science and Mathematics Faculty Publications
In the early years of the modern creationist movement questions were raised as to the role of ice ages in explaining geological data. Beginning with Whitcomb and Morris (1961) and formalized by Oard (1979), a proposed scenario of warm oceans and volcanic activity would provide the needed conditions to initiate a post-flood ice age. During the 1990’s Vardiman used the Community Climate Model (CCM) to study the impact of warm oceans on global air circulation and precipitation patterns. Following Vardiman’s lead this study uses the Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS) Model E climate model. The first part of the …
What Is The Eternal?, Steven M. Gollmer
What Is The Eternal?, Steven M. Gollmer
Science and Mathematics Faculty Publications
Apologetics arguments related to the creation account in Genesis have ranged from evidential proofs for a young creation to the presuppositional consistency of the biblical worldview. Each of these arguments has its place, but the effectiveness varies depending on the audience’s background. A fundamental assumption for all arguments is that God exists and that he has purposefully communicated with his creation through special revelation. Those not holding this faith commitment resort to other answers that they feel are scientifically based. What they overlook are the faith commitments underlying their scientific answers. This paper poses the question “What is the Eternal?” …
