Existence Of A Positive Solution For A Right-Focal Dynamic Boundary Value Problem, Jeffrey Lyons
Existence Of A Positive Solution For A Right-Focal Dynamic Boundary Value Problem, Jeffrey Lyons
Mathematics Colloquium Series
This talk presents an application made from an extension of the Leggett-Williams fixed-point theorem—which requires neither of the functional boundaries to be invariant—to a second-order right focal dynamic boundary value problem on a time scale. To conclude, Lyons will provide a non-trivial example.
A Multiplicative "Conic", Tiffany Lundy
A Multiplicative "Conic", Tiffany Lundy
Undergraduate Research Conference
Early in their mathematical career, students learn about how ellipses and hyperbolas are formed, their properties, and their applications. In particular, an ellipse is the set of all points in the plane whose combined distance from two fixed locations (foci) is constant. A hyperbola is formed in much the same way, except instead of combining (adding) the distance from the foci, the difference is used. This research begins by examining a new locus of points. The locus of points if formed by taking all points whose distance from two fixed locations when multiplied in constant. The difference discernible types of …
Solids Of Revolution Formed By Rotating Functions, Cory Robinson, Blake Moyer
Solids Of Revolution Formed By Rotating Functions, Cory Robinson, Blake Moyer
Undergraduate Research Conference
During Calculus students learn how to find the volume of regions formed by rotating a function about a vertical or horizontal line. This technique is useful in finding the volume of regular/symmetric three dimensional regions, but fails for regions which do not possess these qualities. This project is a generalization of this idea in order to find the volume of a solid generated by revolving one function about another. This should lead to being able to find or approximate the volume of regions which are not symmetric/regular.

Communication Across Random Landings, Kerron Joseph, Jay Walbran
Communication Across Random Landings, Kerron Joseph, Jay Walbran
Undergraduate Research Conference
The idea to do this project began with a simple question: Suppose that people carrying communication radios parachute out of a plane, if each device has a certain range, what is the probability that once everyone lands they will be able to communicate. To study this problem I assumed that the spot where each individual lands is normally distributed.
We discuss the different ways the communication radios can work. In particular we examine the situation where all the radios have to be within a certain radius r to operate correctly and the situation where the radios work on a relay …

A Survey On Intrusion Detection Approaches, A Murali M. Rao
A Survey On Intrusion Detection Approaches, A Murali M. Rao
International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies
Intrusion detection plays one of the key roles in computer security techniques and is one of the prime areas of research. Usages of computer network services are tremendously increasing day by day and at the same time intruders are also playing a major role to deny network services, compromising the crucial services for Email, FTP and Web. Realizing the importance of the problem due to intrusions, many researchers have taken up research in this area and have proposed several solutions. It has come to a stage to take a stock of the research results and project a comprehensive view so …
Role And Responsibilities Of State Cooperative Extension Services For Wildlife Damage Control, James L. Byford
Role And Responsibilities Of State Cooperative Extension Services For Wildlife Damage Control, James L. Byford
Wildlife Damage Management Conference
The Cooperative Extension Service was established by the Smith-Lever Act in 1914. It was designed to improve the lives of people, through education in: agriculture, natural resources, home economics and community development. Its audiences include both adult and youth. 4-H is the primary youth audience. The Cooperative Extension Service is an "extension" of the Land employees include university faculty (specialists) and professional agents in every county, in every state in the country. Extension's primary mission is to conduct an educational program, using research-based information. Research results are condensed into a form that the average person can understand. The role of …
