Spectroscopic Temperature Measurements For A Direct Current Arcjet Diamond Chemical Vapor Deposition Reactor, Scott W. Reeve, Wayne A. Weimer
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
The diamond thin filmcommercial market isprojected to exceed one billion dollars by the year 2000. Potential applications of diamond thin films range from cutting tools to electronics tomedical devices. The explosion ofinterest in this fieldresults from the extreme properties diamond possesses: itis the hardest material known toman and yet, has a coefficient of friction similar to Teflon;its ability to conduct heat is five times that of copper; and diamond is completely inert. However, despite the tremendous economic incentive, there are still several technological barriers preventing diamond filmscale-up to commercial production. Included among these are a fundamental understanding of the gas …

Design Of A Viscometer Using Magnetostriction Of Ferromagnetic Probes, Subhendra Nath Sarkar
Design Of A Viscometer Using Magnetostriction Of Ferromagnetic Probes, Subhendra Nath Sarkar
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
On-line measurement of viscosity of process liquids at process temperature is difficult though industrially very important. A viscometer is designed which can do this up to about 300 °C almost on-line within about 1-8% accuracy except for very viscous liquids like glucose. It uses a ferromagnetic probe designed to mechanically vibrate in the ultrasonic frequency range. An excitation coil sends repeated excitation current pulses to induce mechanical vibration in the probe tip. When placed in a process fluid, the vibration amplitude is damped due to the viscosity of the fluid, and the damped vibration is sensed by Faraday's principle by …
Choosing A Calcium Supplement For Sheep Fed Cereal Grains, R L. Peet, Michael Hare
Choosing A Calcium Supplement For Sheep Fed Cereal Grains, R L. Peet, Michael Hare
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Sheep fed cereal grains as an energy source over summer usually need added calcium because cereal grains are generally low in calcium (for example, 0.03 per cent calcium compared to 0.26 per cent phosphorus), and there may not be a natural source such as clover, weeds, leafy stubble or edible bush in the paddock.
The safestt and most effective calcium supplement is finely ground limestone added to the feed, but some farmers have used other sources of calcium such as gypsum and superphosphate in this manner.
Nitrogenous Fertilisers For Cereal Production, M G. Mason
Nitrogenous Fertilisers For Cereal Production, M G. Mason
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Among the many factors influencing crop response to nitrogen applications, the most important are the season, soil type, paddock history, time of application and source of nitrogen. Before deciding whether to use nitrogen on a cereal crop, which source to use and at what rate, the farmer needs some understanding of how these factors work.
Sheep : Experimental Basis For Urea Feeding Recommendations, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Sheep : Experimental Basis For Urea Feeding Recommendations, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Recent scientific reviews have concluded that in spite of the great number of experimental observations recorded throughout the world there is no evidence yet to prove that urea can be used profitably for sheep on low quality roughages in genuine grazing conditions.
An experiment is in progress at Merredin Research Station this season, especially designed to demonstrate a response to urea by sheep grazing wheat stubbles, if such a response is possible.
Chemical Ploughing, Geoffrey A. Pearce
Chemical Ploughing, Geoffrey A. Pearce
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
PROGRESS in the field of chemical weed control has been spectacular in recent years. One field that is attracting interest is the idea of replacing cultivation with chemical sprays.
The Control Of Weeds In Cereals, Geoffrey A. Pearce
The Control Of Weeds In Cereals, Geoffrey A. Pearce
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
PRACTICALLY all broadleaved weeds found in cereals can now be killed with herbicides and with most, the farmer has a choice of chemicals.
Two more new products are now available and these have several advantages over other herbicides.

Copper, Zinc And Molybdenum Fertilizers For New Land Crops And Pastures : 1969, J W. Gartrell, R. N. Glencross
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Four years of intensive research into soil deficiencies in developing areas have resulted in a more comprehensive understanding of the need for trace elements in Western Australia.

Soft Water For Dairy Cleaning, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
CLEAN utensils are essential for the production of high quality dairy products.
Cleanliness of dairy equipment depends a lot on how efficiently the detergent can do its job.

The Control Of Grasses With Chemicals, G R W Meadly
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
GRASSES are among man's greatest assets and usually he tries to encourage their growth.
The cereals, rice and many other grasses supply him with basic items of food and they are also important components of pastures which provide grazing for sheep and cattle.
Copper Minerals For Fertilizer Use, R N. Glencross
Copper Minerals For Fertilizer Use, R N. Glencross
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
COPPER fertilizers have an important role in maintaining: and increasing Western Australia's agricultural production.
On many soils they are essential for cereal growing or pasture production and persistence and for animal health and wool quality.
They are also sometimes used for fruit trees, vines, and vegetables.

List Of Registered Fertilisers : 1959-60, H G. Cariss
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
TN accordance with the provisions of the Fertilisers Act, 1928-1955, it is required that—with the exception of bulk sales to a manufacturer and those made in accordance with a buyer's written prescription—all fertilisers sold are required to be registered annually, the registration year being from November 1 to October 31 following.
The list of fertilisers registered for the year commencing November 1, 1959, is set out herewith in tabular form.
Feeding Pickled Wheat To Pigs, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Feeding Pickled Wheat To Pigs, Department Of Agriculture, Western Australia
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
INQUIRIES are frequently received from farmers asking whether it is safe to feed pickled wheat to pigs, and if so, the quantities which would be suggested.
Until very recently there was no experimental information on the safety or possible dangers of these wheat pickling agents, but feeding trials completed last year at the Animal Health and Nutrition Laboratory, Nedlands, have provided some of the answers to these questions.
