Mobile devices, smartphones and tablets, are continually expanding their computational performance capabilities through improved processing, interconnectivity network abilities, resource management and ease of use user interfaces. As such they are gaining interestas a means tosupport on-the-move remote collaboration for military personnel executing real time decision making tasks. This paper focuses on a software-based implementation of a prototype multimodal Android application that was designed to capture and disseminate real time battlefield perspectives to distributed entities. Increased availability of mobile computing, such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), creates the potential for constant and intelligent access to up-to-date, integrated and detailed information from the Web, regardless of one's actual geographical position. Intelligent question-answering requires the representation of knowledge from various domains, such as the navigational and discourse context of the user, potential user questions, the information provided by Web services and so on, for example in the form of ontologies.
