Co-Design Of An Interactive Wellness Park: Exploring Design Requirements For A Multimodal Outdoor Physical Web Installation With Older Adults, Fatima Badmos Jan 2023

Co-Design Of An Interactive Wellness Park: Exploring Design Requirements For A Multimodal Outdoor Physical Web Installation With Older Adults, Fatima Badmos

Academic Posters Collection

The global demographic landscape is experiencing a notable shift, characterised by a growing proportion of adults over 60. According to projections, the proportion of individuals aged 60 and above is expected to reach one-sixth of the global population by 2030. Furthermore, by 2050, this demographic is projected to exceed a staggering two billion people. Amidst this shift, there is an urgent need to develop interactive and innovative solutions to address older adults' unique challenges, particularly in outdoor physical activity.

A co-design methodology involving older adults’ participation from the idea generation to the application development process will be adopted to address …

Nuclear Power Plant In Las Vegas, Ryan W. Murray Dec 2022

Nuclear Power Plant In Las Vegas, Ryan W. Murray

Undergraduate Research Symposium Posters

This research focuses on the impact of a “Nuclear Power Plant in Las Vegas” or ‘NPP in LV’ for short. Nuclear power is clean, has no greenhouse gas emissions, and has a moderate cost of kilowatt hours. Las Vegas, or more specifically Clark County uses Gas power plants to produce a majority of their electricity. My project will show what a nuclear plant could do if built in the city of Las Vegas. What is a Nuclear power plant? The EIA’s definition is “A nuclear power plant uses the heat that a nuclear reactor produces to turn water into steam, …

Data-Limited Domain Adaptation And Transfer Learning For Learning Latent Expression Labels Of Child Facial Expression Images, Megan Witherow, Winston Shields, Manar Samad, Khan Iftekharuddin Apr 2021

Data-Limited Domain Adaptation And Transfer Learning For Learning Latent Expression Labels Of Child Facial Expression Images, Megan Witherow, Winston Shields, Manar Samad, Khan Iftekharuddin

College of Engineering & Technology (Batten) Posters

While state-of-the-art deep learning models have demonstrated success in adult facial expression classification by leveraging large, labeled datasets, labeled data for child facial expression classification is limited. Due to differences in facial morphology and development in child and adult faces, deep learning models trained on adult data do not generalize well to child data. Recent deep domain adaptation approaches have improved the generalizability of models trained on a source domain to a target domain with few labeled samples. We propose that incorporating steps of deep transfer learning, e.g. weights initialization from the pre-trained source model and freezing model layers, may …

Unsupervised Multivariate Time Series Clustering, Md Monibor Rahman, Lasitha Vidyaratne, Alex Glandon, Khan Iftekharuddin Apr 2021

Unsupervised Multivariate Time Series Clustering, Md Monibor Rahman, Lasitha Vidyaratne, Alex Glandon, Khan Iftekharuddin

College of Engineering & Technology (Batten) Posters

Clustering is widely used in unsupervised machine learning to partition a given set of data into non-overlapping groups. Many real-world applications require processing more complex multivariate time series data characterized by more than one dependent variables. A few works in literature reported multivariate classification using Shapelet learning. However, the clustering of multivariate time series signals using Shapelet learning has not explored yet. Shapelet learning is a process of discovering those Shapelets which contain the most informative features of the time series signal. Discovering suitable Shapelets from many candidates Shapelet has been broadly studied for classification and clustering of univariate time …

Low-Carbon Building Skills Website, Faculty Of Applied Science And Technology Sheridan College Jan 2018

Low-Carbon Building Skills Website, Faculty Of Applied Science And Technology Sheridan College

Books and Websites

Low-carbon building involves designing, constructing, operating, maintaining, and removing buildings in ways that conserve natural resources and reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. To move towards a low-carbon economy, we need tradespeople who are educated in the design, construction maintenance and operation of buildings, who understand the industrial and constructions sectors, and are trained in low-carbon building skills.

Sheridan College’s participation in the Low Carbon Building Skills (LCBS) project involved developing and delivering low-carbon building skills curriculum across relevant disciplines and involving the full building cycle, from design to operations and optimization. The learning modules address what can be done to …
