Young Women In Stem: An Analysis Of Outreach Programs For Middle School Girls, Rachel Lundeen
Young Women In Stem: An Analysis Of Outreach Programs For Middle School Girls, Rachel Lundeen
Honors Projects
Historically, and still presently, women face many obstacles when attempting to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Women have been systematically barred from entering STEM programs at universities and today face cultural obstacles, resulting in marginalization. Research points to adolescence as the age where this sense of marginalization begins to develop. As a result, many outreach programs for young women interested in STEM are targeted toward the middle school age group. This study adds to this research by examining two such outreach programs for young women in STEM to determine their effectiveness, including Camp GEMS at Ohio Northern …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem at a local science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) charter high school in this study, was that non-STEM teachers lacked the self-efficacy and background knowledge to integrate mathematics into their content-specific instructional activities. The goal of this study was to explore non-STEM teachers' self-efficacy for integrating mathematics across the STEM charter high school's curriculum. The conceptual framework of self-efficacy informed the study. A case study research design was chosen to develop an in-depth understanding of the problem. . Twelve of the 16 local school's non-STEM teachers agreed to participate in the study. Personal interviews were conducted to access non-STEM …

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
As oil is the fuel of the industrial society, software is the fuel of our current information society. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there will be more demand for computing jobs in the future. By 2024, more than one million computing jobs will be available. Statistics show that there is more demand for computing jobs than there is a supply of qualified graduates from universities. In this experimental study, three groups of high school students were targeted to explore how integrating art, animation, and code sharing into programming affects their interest in pursuing a degree in computer science …
