Chatbot personality has been demonstrated to influence user behavior, such as trust and intended engagement. However, previous research on chatbot-user personality congruence’s influence on user behavior is scant despite its significance in human-human conversations. This study explores the effect of chatbot-human personality trait congruence on user behavior in the context of a chatbot-based advising system. In this study, 54 college students interacted with chatbots with three different personalities (extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness) and rated their trust, usage intention, and intended engagement with the chatbots. Additionally, 18 participants were interviewed to gain further insights into their perceptions and evaluations of the …

This paper describes our experiences and observations with the first version of a localization system that continuous tracks the indoor location of a large number of consumer mobile devices. Unlike past work that focuses principally on the accuracy of the location tracking algorithm, we study the performance of the localization system in terms of key additional metrics: scalability and energy-efficiency, which can sometimes conflict with the desire for high accuracy. To ensure that our solution can handle both Android and iOS-based mobile devices (& other closed mobile platforms), we adapt the conventional client-side fingerprinting-based localization approaches to develop a novel …

Networks - I: Investigating Access To Heterogeneous Storage Systems Using Linked Data In Unicore Grid Middleware, Roger Menday, M. Shahbaz Memon, A. Shiraz Memon, Achim Streit

International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies

The Grid provides access to execution and storage resources - through middleware - by normalizing the access to resources. UNICORE calls this quality dasiaseamlessnesspsila. One result of this is that a request for some action at one resource can, with relative ease, be re-targeted to another, making possible the coordinated usage of multiple resources. In this paper we describe a seamless interface to heterogeneous storage systems, using the (Semantic) Web as middleware for the Grid. Data is accumulated by experiments and simulations running on execution systems, instruments and sensors, and by importing data from other locations. Storage systems are regular …
