Analyzing And Estimating Cyberattack Trends By Performing Data Mining On A Cybersecurity Data Set, Chan Young Koh Apr 2019

Analyzing And Estimating Cyberattack Trends By Performing Data Mining On A Cybersecurity Data Set, Chan Young Koh

Honors Program Theses and Projects

More than five billion personal information has been compromised over the past eight years through data breaches from notable companies, and the damage related to cybercrime is expected to reach six trillion USD annually by the year of 2021. Interestingly, recent cyberattacks were aimed specifically at credit agencies and companies that hold credit information of their customers and employees. The question is: “Why is it difficult to protect against or evade cyberattacks even for these prestigious companies?”. The purpose of this research is to bring the notion of notorious, rapidly-multiplying cyberthreats. Hence, the research focuses on analyzing cyberattack techniques and …

The Education Of Digital Design For Children, Neha Kharidi Apr 2019

The Education Of Digital Design For Children, Neha Kharidi

Honors Program Theses and Projects

Digital design is a set of rules stating how computer software and hardware are joined together and interact to make a computer work. This is an important area of study that should be made more accessible to children, particularly of the middle school age. Although middle schools do provide access to computer science software, access to the hardware aspect is nonexistent. In this project, I proposed to create a mock up for an android app that aims to teach children beginner concepts in digital design. It is my goal to one day create an app in order to bring these …

The Restoration Of Unix: Emulating Unix Version 1.0 On A 16-Bit Dec Pdp 11/20, John J. Gilmore Jr. May 2018

The Restoration Of Unix: Emulating Unix Version 1.0 On A 16-Bit Dec Pdp 11/20, John J. Gilmore Jr.

Honors Program Theses and Projects

Next year, the one of the world’s first Operating Systems (OS) UNIX will celebrate its 50th birthday. This relic of the past is objectively one of the most important creations that has ever influenced the field of Computer Science. However, mysteries of this artifact were discovered in 1995. Two engineers, Paul Vixie and Keith Bostic, dug deep enough to find several DEC tapes “under the floor of the computer room [at Bell Labs]” (UNIX Past) which held several original binary files for UNIX. With much help from several individuals, these two engineers were able to reverse engineer the binary tapes …

The Key To Cryptography: The Rsa Algorithm, Clifton Paul Robinson May 2018

The Key To Cryptography: The Rsa Algorithm, Clifton Paul Robinson

Honors Program Theses and Projects

Cryptography is the study of codes, as well as the art of writing and solving them. It has been a growing area of study for the past 40 years. Now that most information is sent and received through the internet, people need ways to protect what they send. Some of the most commonly used cryptosystems today include a public key. Some public keys are based around using two large, random prime numbers combined together to help encrypt messages.

The purpose of this project was to test the strength of the RSA cryptosystem public key. This public key is created by …

Redesign Of The Bridgewater State University Website, Jordan Rossetti Dec 2017

Redesign Of The Bridgewater State University Website, Jordan Rossetti

Honors Program Theses and Projects

In this thesis, I studied human-computer interaction (HCI), analyzed the usability of the Bridgewater State University website, and redesigned it guided by HCI principles and user experiments. A goal of the project is to apply suggestions from HCI research to the usability analysis of an existing website. I redesigned the website based on this analysis and by conducting user experiments compare the redesign against the existing BSU website. With this project, I redesigned a website that demonstrably improves users’ success at information seeking and navigation while reducing frustration and hassle compared to the current Bridgewater State University (BSU) website. This …

Developing A Virtual Reality Android Application To Remote Explore A Room, Jamie Nelson Dec 2017

Developing A Virtual Reality Android Application To Remote Explore A Room, Jamie Nelson

Honors Program Theses and Projects

Virtual reality is a rapidly growing area of research. Many scholars are emphasizing its importance and creators are designing cheaper equipment to acquire it. The purpose of this research was to create a simple virtual reality mobile application that allows the user to explore a room. For this thesis, we created a robot and, with the help from a fellow researcher, we optimized the robot for this specific task. We programed the robot to move forward in small increments and to spin a platform holding a Go Pro camera. The camera sends a live stream video to an Android mobile …

Stress Relieving Video Games: Creating A Game For The Purpose Of Stress Relief And Analyzing Its Effectiveness, Nicole Mercer May 2015

Stress Relieving Video Games: Creating A Game For The Purpose Of Stress Relief And Analyzing Its Effectiveness, Nicole Mercer

Honors Program Theses and Projects

Stress is an inevitable part of human life that can have both physical and mental repercussions if left to simmer. The purpose of this project was to make a simple game-like application that will be at least as effective at relieving stress as other games referenced in my research below. To accomplish this, I took common ideas known to relieve stress and designed a game that incorporates them, programming the game in Java. Then, to test the effectiveness of the created game, I had several subjects fill out a questionnaire about their stress levels and took their blood pressure. One …
