Nature Of Non-Biological Decomposition Of Nitrite In Acid Media, Mukkatira Kariappa Mahendrappa
Nature Of Non-Biological Decomposition Of Nitrite In Acid Media, Mukkatira Kariappa Mahendrappa
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Curiosity is the cause of investigations, and the thirst for knowledge originates from it. Many times at the end of investigations, the number of questions raised are greater than those for which answers are sought. Therefore, all the information gathered through scientific investigations may not be of value for immediate application in practical life. Nevertheless, no research can be considered less important than the other because the integration of several scientific findings considered less less important at the time of investigation may reveal something of very high significance. Similarly, the study of various transformation reactions that the added fertilizers undergo …
Studies On The Ribosomal Ribonucleic Acids From Mesophilic And Thermophilic Bacteria, Alice A. Holazo
Studies On The Ribosomal Ribonucleic Acids From Mesophilic And Thermophilic Bacteria, Alice A. Holazo
Masters Theses
Introduction
Certain organisms have been known to live at temperatures at which cellular constituents ordinarily sensitive to heat are destroyed. These organisms. called thermophiles (heat-loving), normally live at higher temperature range of the biokinetic zone (10o-45oC).
Hydrolysis Of Benzohydroxamic Acid, Robert L. Fuller
Hydrolysis Of Benzohydroxamic Acid, Robert L. Fuller
Masters Theses
Introduction
The hydroxamic acids were discovered in 1869 by H. Lossen1. The nomenclature, structure, and chemistry of these compounds have been summarized in an excellent review article by Yale2.
A Method For The Determination Of Solanesol In Tobacco, Ludwig Weissbecker
A Method For The Determination Of Solanesol In Tobacco, Ludwig Weissbecker
Master's Theses
The object or this work was to develop a procedure for the quantitative determination of solanesol in the petroleum ether extract of tobacco. The amount of tobacco extracted into petroleum ether is routinely used to differentiate tobacco types. The extraction procedures have been extensively studied by the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC) and reported in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Technical Bulletin # 1186.
There is at present no method for the quantitative determination of solanesol. One procedure which comes closest, involves an infrared measurement of the tobacco extract. Because of the presence of other bands, the …

The Synthesis Of Benzyl N-Carbobenzoxy Beta-D-Glucosaminid Uronic Acid Derivatives, Stuart Martin Block
The Synthesis Of Benzyl N-Carbobenzoxy Beta-D-Glucosaminid Uronic Acid Derivatives, Stuart Martin Block
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research is the preparation and characterization of derivatives of benzyl N-carbobenzoxy-β-D-glucosaminiduronic acid. Previously the derivatives of benzyl N-carbobenzoxy-α-D-glucosaminid-uronic acid have been prepared by H. Weidmann and H. K. Zimmerman (32). The procedure upon which both these uronic acid syntheses is based has been developed with the utilization of platinum in the selective catalytic oxidation of both the benzyl α- and β-D-glucuronosides. The applicability of this research is in the development of new intermediates for the preparation of new diamino sugars or other natural products.
Capillary Behavior Of Viscous Liquids, Marvin De Young
Capillary Behavior Of Viscous Liquids, Marvin De Young
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
A major problem confronting every investigator who works with synthetic organic chemistry is that of the crystallization of the products obtained. This problem necessitates extensive attention both on the experimental and on the theoretical level. In order to gain an understanding of the behavior of substances in the liquid state, so as to be better able to manipulate them in procedures intended to induce crystallization from complex mixtures, considerable attention has been given to various models of the liquid state. An understanding of the nature of pure liquids would seem to be an essential prelude to any attempt to understand …
The Synthesis Of 4-Spiro-2-Aryloxazolines Of Potential Pharmacological Interest, Paul Waddell Collins
The Synthesis Of 4-Spiro-2-Aryloxazolines Of Potential Pharmacological Interest, Paul Waddell Collins
Theses and Dissertations
Numerous and diverse physiological actions are found among 2-oxazoline compounds. No reports of the synthesis or biological testing of 4-spiro-2-aryl-2-oxazolines were found in the literature. On the basis of the known pharmacological activities of certain aza- and diazaspirans, it was felt that 4-spiro-2-aryl-2-oxazolines should possess medicinal activity. In particular, it was reasoned that the combination in a bicyclic spiro structure of the 2-oxazoline ring with rings systems commonly found in synthetic antitussive compounds might result in active antitussive agents.
The aim of this research was the synthesis of a series· of 2-aryl-2-oxazoline-4-spirocyclopentanes and a series of 1'-methyl-2-aryl-2-oxazoline-4-spiro-4’-piperidines. Six members were …
Synthesis Of Benzyl Beta D-Gulopyranosiduronic Acid-(2',3': 4,5)-Oxazolidone-2, Gerald Duane Shryock
Synthesis Of Benzyl Beta D-Gulopyranosiduronic Acid-(2',3': 4,5)-Oxazolidone-2, Gerald Duane Shryock
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Although D-glucosamine has been found as a constituent of some antibiotics (28), very little research has been carried out in the area of synthetic preparations. Dutcher (7) recently reviewed the biochemical importance of this class of amino sugars as a constituent of complex antibiotic substances which compose the streptothricin family. For a complete elucidation of these antibiotics, it becomes necessary to investigate thoroughly the synthesis and reactions of the D-glucosamine compounds. Gross et al. (12) have succeeded in preparing the oxazolidone of α-D-glucosamine as well as some derivatives (13) of this compound. The present work reports an attempt to prepare …
The Activity Of Succinic Dehydrogenase And Indole Acetic Acid Oxidase In Cell-Free Preparations Of Hygrophorous Conicus, Jagdish M. Mehta
The Activity Of Succinic Dehydrogenase And Indole Acetic Acid Oxidase In Cell-Free Preparations Of Hygrophorous Conicus, Jagdish M. Mehta
Masters Theses
"The enzyme indole acetic acid oxidase is produced by the fungus Hygrophorous conicus when it is grown in the presence of indole acetic acid (IAA) or tryptamine. The IAA acts both as an inducer and a substrate for this intracellular enzyme. The product of the oxidation catalyzed by the IAA oxidase is oxindole acetic acid (OIAA).
The rate of growth and the rate of formation of the enzyme IAA oxidase by H.conicus were studied in different media. Of these, a nitrate medium containing 0.5 per cent Yeast extract (Y.E.) was found to be the best for the production of H.conicus …
