Inequality, Rubber, And Thermodynamics In Indonesia, Ernest M. Oleksy

The Downtown Review

Intersectionality has led the charge in ensuring that workplace justice is assured to all people, irrespective of their identities. While intersectionality is a useful theory for explaining inequality, what must not be understated is the contributions that postcolonialism and the blue-collar working identity can have on harsh working conditions. Particularly, miners in Indonesia have had to work in very hostile environments where they are at-risk for sulfur poisoning as they mine for materials to vulcanize rubber. This article serves two purposes. The first is to call attention to how place can help explain the differential experiences of miners in the …

Spectroscopic And Thermodynamic Approach To The Interaction Of Nonperipherally Substituted Cationic Phthalocyanines With Calf Thymus (Ct)-Dna, Sevgi̇can Tuncer, İbrahi̇m Özçeşmeci̇, Behi̇ce Şebnem Sesalan, Ayfer Kalkan Burat Jan 2018

Spectroscopic And Thermodynamic Approach To The Interaction Of Nonperipherally Substituted Cationic Phthalocyanines With Calf Thymus (Ct)-Dna, Sevgi̇can Tuncer, İbrahi̇m Özçeşmeci̇, Behi̇ce Şebnem Sesalan, Ayfer Kalkan Burat

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Novel, nonperipherally tetrasubstituted cationic metal-free and metallophthalocyanines (Zn, In) were synthesized in the present study. The binding constants, the disappearance of quenching effect of all cationic phthalocyanines on the fluorescence intensity of SYBR Green--disodium salt of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from calf thymus complex, and the changes in T$_{m}$ of double helix DNA with thermal denaturation profile were investigated by UV-Vis and fluorescence spectrophotometric methods. To investigate the spontaneity of the reactions between DNA and novel quaternized phthalocyanines in buffer, thermodynamic parameters were employed.

Synthesis Of Quaternized Zinc(Ii) And Cobalt(Ii) Phthalocyanines Bearing Pyridine-2-Yl-Ethynyl Groups And Their Dna Binding Properties, Maryam Moeini Alishah, Hacer Yasemi̇n Yeni̇lmez, İbrahi̇m Özçeşmeci̇, Behi̇ce Şebnem Sesalan, Zehra Altuntaş Bayir Jan 2018

Synthesis Of Quaternized Zinc(Ii) And Cobalt(Ii) Phthalocyanines Bearing Pyridine-2-Yl-Ethynyl Groups And Their Dna Binding Properties, Maryam Moeini Alishah, Hacer Yasemi̇n Yeni̇lmez, İbrahi̇m Özçeşmeci̇, Behi̇ce Şebnem Sesalan, Zehra Altuntaş Bayir

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The synthesis and biological properties of tetra-substituted zinc and cobalt phthalocyanines bearing ethynylpy- ridine units on the periphery and their quaternized derivatives have been reported. The binding of quaternized ZnPc and CoPc (Q-ZnPc and Q-CoPc) with calf thymus DNA was investigated by UV-Vis spectrophotometric methods and thermodynamics. The mixtures of Q-ZnPc or Q-CoPc and DNA solutions were used to determine the change in the thermal melting temperature of DNA with the thermal denaturation profile. Thermodynamic parameters that show the spontaneity of the reactions between DNA and the quaternized phthalocyanines were investigated. K$_{b}$ binding constants at a degree of 10$^{5}$ and …
