Inequality, Rubber, And Thermodynamics In Indonesia, Ernest M. Oleksy Dec 2018

Inequality, Rubber, And Thermodynamics In Indonesia, Ernest M. Oleksy

The Downtown Review

Intersectionality has led the charge in ensuring that workplace justice is assured to all people, irrespective of their identities. While intersectionality is a useful theory for explaining inequality, what must not be understated is the contributions that postcolonialism and the blue-collar working identity can have on harsh working conditions. Particularly, miners in Indonesia have had to work in very hostile environments where they are at-risk for sulfur poisoning as they mine for materials to vulcanize rubber. This article serves two purposes. The first is to call attention to how place can help explain the differential experiences of miners in the …

Transmuted New Weibull-Pareto Distribution And Its Applications, Areeb Tahir, Ahmad S. Akhter, M. A. Ul Haq

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

this article, a generalization of the new Weibull-Pareto (NWP) distribution is derived. The quadratic equation (QRTM rank transmutation map) studied by Shaw and Buckley (2007), has been used to develop the generalization. The proposed distribution includes as special cases with the new Weibull-Pareto distribution (NWP), transmuted Weibull distribution (TW), transmuted Rayleigh (TR) distribution and transmuted exponential (TE) distribution. Various structural properties of the new distribution, including of moments, quantiles, moment generating function, mean deviations, reliability analysis, order statistics and Renyi entropy are derived. The maximum likelihood estimation method has been proposed for the estimation of the parameters of the TNWP …

A Generalized Detection System To Detect Distributed Denial Of Service Attacks And Flash Events For Information Theory Metrics, Sunny Behal, Krishan Kumar, Monika Sachdeva

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks pose a severe threat to extensively used web-based services and applications. Many detection approaches have been proposed in the literature, but ensuring the security and availability of data, resources, and services to end users remains an ongoing research challenge. Nowadays, the traffic volume of legitimate users has also increased manifold. A flash event (FE) is a high-rate legitimate traffic situation wherein millions of legitimate users start accessing a particular network resource, such as a web server, simultaneously. The detection of DDoS attacks becomes more challenging when DDoS attacks are launched during behaviorally similar FEs. …

Threshold-Based Distributed Ddos Attack Detection In Isp Networks, Karanbir Singh, Kanwalvir Singh Dhindsa, Bharat Bhushan Jan 2018

Threshold-Based Distributed Ddos Attack Detection In Isp Networks, Karanbir Singh, Kanwalvir Singh Dhindsa, Bharat Bhushan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The purpose of this paper is to propose a more efficient and accurate distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack detection mechanism that detects DDoS attacks by monitoring the incoming traffic on the edge routers of ISP networks. It can be implemented as a module or agent function on the machine that is responsible for processing router traffic. The detection algorithm works by monitoring the traffic passing through the edge routers and identifying the occurrence of DDoS attacks or flash events. The algorithm calculates different values like the normalized router entropy, packet rate, and entropy rate and compares them against the …

An Efficient Recurrent Fuzzy Cmac Model Based On A Dynamic-Group--Based Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm For Identification And Prediction Applications, Chin-Ling Lee, Chengjian Lin Jan 2018

An Efficient Recurrent Fuzzy Cmac Model Based On A Dynamic-Group--Based Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm For Identification And Prediction Applications, Chin-Ling Lee, Chengjian Lin

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This article presents an efficient TSK-type recurrent fuzzy cerebellar model articulation controller (T-RFCMAC) model based on a dynamic-group--based hybrid evolutionary algorithm (DGHEA) for solving identification and prediction problems. The proposed T-RFCMAC model is based on the traditional CMAC model and the Takagi--Sugeno--Kang (TSK) parametric fuzzy inference system. Otherwise, the recurrent network, which imports feedback links with a receptive field cell, is embedded in the T-RFCMAC model, and the feedback units are used as memory elements. The DGHEA, which is a hybrid of the dynamic-group quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) and the Nelder--Mead method, is proposed for adjusting the parameters of …

Spectroscopic And Thermodynamic Approach To The Interaction Of Nonperipherally Substituted Cationic Phthalocyanines With Calf Thymus (Ct)-Dna, Sevgi̇can Tuncer, İbrahi̇m Özçeşmeci̇, Behi̇ce Şebnem Sesalan, Ayfer Kalkan Burat

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Novel, nonperipherally tetrasubstituted cationic metal-free and metallophthalocyanines (Zn, In) were synthesized in the present study. The binding constants, the disappearance of quenching effect of all cationic phthalocyanines on the fluorescence intensity of SYBR Green--disodium salt of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from calf thymus complex, and the changes in T$_{m}$ of double helix DNA with thermal denaturation profile were investigated by UV-Vis and fluorescence spectrophotometric methods. To investigate the spontaneity of the reactions between DNA and novel quaternized phthalocyanines in buffer, thermodynamic parameters were employed.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The synthesis and biological properties of tetra-substituted zinc and cobalt phthalocyanines bearing ethynylpy- ridine units on the periphery and their quaternized derivatives have been reported. The binding of quaternized ZnPc and CoPc (Q-ZnPc and Q-CoPc) with calf thymus DNA was investigated by UV-Vis spectrophotometric methods and thermodynamics. The mixtures of Q-ZnPc or Q-CoPc and DNA solutions were used to determine the change in the thermal melting temperature of DNA with the thermal denaturation profile. Thermodynamic parameters that show the spontaneity of the reactions between DNA and the quaternized phthalocyanines were investigated. K$_{b}$ binding constants at a degree of 10$^{5}$ and …

Nature Of Entropy In A Scalar-Tensor Theory Of Gravity, Onur Siğinç, Mustafa Salti, Hi̇lmi̇ Yanar, Oktay Aydoğdu

Turkish Journal of Physics

This work is devoted to studying the generalized nature of the entropy function in a specific form of the scalar-tensor-vector (STeVe) theory of gravity for the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetime in the state of thermal equilibrium. For this purpose, we define an equilibrium picture of thermodynamics by making use of a suitable set of the dark energy density and dark pressure descriptions, which defines an energy-momentum tensor obeying the local energy conservation law. Furthermore, we also discuss our results numerically in order to get additional implications.
