Substituent Effects On The Regioselectivity Of Maleamic Acid Formation And Hydrogen Chloride Addition To N-Aryl Maleimides, Yeli̇z Faturaci, Necdet Coşkun

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Itaconic anhydride reacts with aryl amines to give a substituent controlled equilibrium mixture of regioisomeric (Z)-2-methyl- and (Z)-3-methyl-4-oxo-4-(arylamino)but-2-enoic acids. Electron-donating groups favor nucleophilic attack on C-5 carbonyl, while the presence of electron-withdrawing groups enhances the bias for attack on C-2 carbonyl. The treatment of (Z)-2-methyl- and (Z)-3-methyl-4-oxo-4-(arylamino)but-2-enoic acids with SOCl_2-Et_3N in THF provided the corresponding maleimides in high yields while under the same conditions the maleic anhydride aryl amine addition products gave predominately the corresponding 3-chloro-1-arylpyrrolidine-2,5-diones and maleimides in substituent dependent ratio.

Long chain dicationic ammonium salts (1a-1c), easily prepared from tert-amines and dihaloalkanes, were successfully used as efficient phase-transfer catalysts in the Michael addition reaction of various active methylene compounds to 2-cyclohexenone without solvent under ultrasonic irradiation. The investigated dicationic salts were more effective than monocationic tetrabutylammonium bromide, with short reaction times and high yields. This methodology was established under phase-transfer catalytic conditions and ultrasonic effects with many advantages, including the easy and cost-effective synthesis of the catalyst, mild reaction conditions, short reaction times, good yields, simple work-up procedures, and environmental friendliness.

Synthesis, Characterization, And Antimicrobial Activity Of A New Pyrimidine Schiff Base And Its Cu(Ii), Ni(Ii), Co(Ii), Pt(Ii), And Pd(Ii) Complexes, Mehmet Gülcan, Mehmet Sönmez, İsmet Berber

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A new Schiff base, {1-[(5-bromo-2-hydroxy-benzylidene)- amino]-4-phenyl-2-thioxo-1,2-dihyro-pyrimidin-5-yl}-phenyl-methanone, was synthesized from N-amino pyrimidine-2-thione and 5-bromsalicylaldehyde. Metal complexes of the Schiff base were prepared from acetate salts of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Pd(II), and PtCl_2 in methanol. The chemical structures of the Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes were confirmed by spectroscopic analysis. All of the compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial against 4 gram-positive bacteria, 1 gram-negative bacterium, and 3 yeast strains. The Schiff base and the Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes showed good biological activity against all tested bacteria and yeast strains.

A number of benzimidazole derivatives (1-8) were synthesized and the catalytic activity of these compounds in a catalytic system including Pd(OAc)_2 and K_2CO_3 in DMF-H_2O was evaluated in Heck-Mizoroki and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of aryl iodides, bromides, and chlorides with styrene and arylboronic acids under microwave irradiation and aerobic conditions. The yields of both the Heck-Mizoroki and the Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling reactions with aryl iodides and aryl bromides were nearly quantitative. The synthesized 1-substituted benzimidazole (1) and benzimidazole salts (2-8) were identified by ^1H- and ^{13}C-NMR and IR spectroscopic methods, and micro analysis. The molecular structure of 7 was also …

Theory Of Adsorption Equilibria Analysis Based On General Equilibrium Constant Expression, Abdul Sattar Ali Khan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Adsorption equilibria were analyzed on the basis of general equilibrium constant expression for the development of fundamental adsorption equations (Freundlich, Langmuir, and BET) in connection with the establishment of a general approach towards physical interpretations of adsorption parameters. Theoretically it was proved that Freundlich plot analysis cannot be used to find useful parameters such as the monolayer adsorption capacity of an adsorbent. The present theory also indicated that the adsorption process with known value of monolayer adsorption capacity can be studied for finding various equilibrium constants on the basis of the Fronaeus equation, which is commonly used in the complexation …
