A Study Of The Renal Vascular Supply In The Domestic Cat, Elizabeth Rosen
A Study Of The Renal Vascular Supply In The Domestic Cat, Elizabeth Rosen
Bachelors’ Theses
Studies on the normal and abnormal vascularization of the renal vessels in the domestic cat (felis domestica) indicate the frequency of anomalies that occur, but in most of the studies it is the inferior vena cava that is most often recorded. Among the occasional references to several renal veins or arteries we have Huntington and McClure, Elmer Butler, Gaylord Bates, William Darrach, and C.H. Fortune. Yet no study seems to have been made of individuals of any particular class. A superficial observation seems to indicate a large number of cats used in the laboratory had multiple renal veins. Hence a …
A Study Of The Digestive System In The Sparrow (Passer Domesticus), Henry Joseph Wisniewski
A Study Of The Digestive System In The Sparrow (Passer Domesticus), Henry Joseph Wisniewski
Bachelors’ Theses
The digestive tube proper of the Sparrow beings with the Oesophagus. This is a soft tubular organ which serves to convey food rapidly from the pharynx to the stomach. It extends along the median ventral margin of the neck lying dorsal to or to one side of the trachea. Posteriorly, at the base of the neck and shortly in front of the sternum it broadens slightly and gives rise to a dilated region of the oesophagus, namely the Crop, "whose secretion serves to moisten the food or even to initiate digestion." In larger birds as in the pigeon, the crop …
The Spinal Nerves And Spinal Cord Of The Frog, Laverne A. Penn
The Spinal Nerves And Spinal Cord Of The Frog, Laverne A. Penn
Bachelors’ Theses
The common grass frog, Rana pipiens as wall as the bull frog, Rana catesbiana have served during many decades as material from which both the student of zoology and the investigator in biological problems have gathered valuable information about the anatomy and physiology of the common systems. Among these systems the central, peripheral, and sympathetic nervous system plays a coordinating role, because of the ramifying nature of its organization. It is the purpose of this thesis to investigate the gross and histological structure of these branches known as spinal nerves. When one inspects the literature on the nervous system of …
The Muscles Of The Forelimb Of Canis Familiaris, Charles G. Wilber
The Muscles Of The Forelimb Of Canis Familiaris, Charles G. Wilber
Bachelors’ Theses
In the study of the anatomy of the vertebrates, there has been much work done and a large number of the forms have been studied with great thoroughness. Among the domesticated animals this is particularly true. The students of the veterinary sciences have given us a deep insight into the structure and function of the mammalian body. This is most certainly true in the case of the dog. The species Canis familiaris has been used for many years in the studies of physiology and surgery. However, it is also true that a plenitude of literature relative to the anatomy of …
The Lungs And Respiration In The Frog, Peter P. Strassburg
The Lungs And Respiration In The Frog, Peter P. Strassburg
Bachelors’ Theses
In a wide sense, respiration is sometimes defined as the gaseous exchange constantly taking place between an organism and its environment. Essentially it is concerned with the intake of oxygen and the output of carbon dioxide but it also includes any other gas exchange that might occur. Small organisms take oxygen directly from the air or from the watery medium surrounding them into all parts of their structures. They also give off carbon dioxide from all their parts directly into the surrounding medium. They can do this successfully because they are small enough to have every cell in direct or …
The Anatomy Of The Oyster, M.J. Rohlinger
The Anatomy Of The Oyster, M.J. Rohlinger
Bachelors’ Theses
The phylum Mollusca manifests the following characteristics: bilateral symmetry; three primary germ layers; free-living and sessile; marine and fresh-water; a shell modified to form either a bivalve or a univalve which gives an appearance of segmentation due to rings of growth or arrangement of certain parts of the shell as is seen in the class Amphineura, this is only apparent metamerism because the Mollusca are considered to be unsegmented animals; a coelom poorly developed; a foot; a mantle cavity; well developed digestive, circulatory, excretory, and reproductive systems. When one inspects a Chiton, an oyster, a snail, an octopus, or a …
