An experiment was conducted to optimize the effect of concentrate levels on growth performance in Nili-Ravi buffalo heifers. These animals (n = 30), aged 4-6 months, were divided into three treatment groups (A, B, C) and were offered concentrate at the rate of 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% of body weight for an 8-month period, respectively. The statistical data showed a significant (P < 0.01) effect on dry matter intake among all treatment groups. However, dietary treatments showed a nonsignificant effect on body weight gain. Treatment A showed a better (P < 0.01) feed conversion ratio (10.01 - 0.55) compared to treatment B (11.75 - 0.79) and C (12.85 - 0.74). The average body condition score, body measurements, and blood profiles were not affected by varying levels of concentrate. However, total serum protein was found lower (P < 0.01) in treatment A compared with the other two treatment groups. The cost for production per kg gain was 80.8% higher in treatment C and 46.6% higher in treatment B compared to treatment A. It can be concluded that buffalo heifers can be reared cost-effectively on a minimum concentrate level (0.5% of body weight) along with ad libitum green fodder.

Ferritin, heavy polypeptide 1 (FTH1) is a kind of ferritin complex that catalyzes the conversion of Fe(II) into Fe(III) to protect the cell from oxidative damage. Recent research has shown that FTH1 is also associated with several disease-related processes, such as inflammation and tumor progression and so on. In this study, the coding sequence (CDS) of FTH1 in Jinding ducks was cloned. The CDS sequence revealed an open reading frame of 546 nucleotides encoding a protein with 181 amino acids. A trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of different processing methods of pigeon pea (Pp; Cajanus cajan) on fattening performance and carcass traits as well as blood biochemical and hematological parameters of broiler chickens. Ticks are the main hematophagous arthropods and obligatory ectoparasites that are considered a vector of serious pathogens for animals and humans. The aims of the present survey were to assess the prevalence and diversity of ticks in cattle in Southeast Iran and to determine Coxiella burnetii in the ticks. From May 2014 to April 2015, 583 ticks were collected randomly from 257 cattle. Nested trans-PCR was performed to detect C. burnetii. The overall prevalence of hard tick infestation on cattle was 56.8%. This study was conducted to quantify endometrial and luteal changes in early pregnant and cyclic cows by ODI analysis. A study was conducted to evaluate the use of exogenous enzymes as a potential means of improving the cell wall degradation of rice straw. The enzymes used for in vitro incubations were characterized for cellulase (CE) and xylanase (XY). Enzymes were supplemented alone (CE or XY) and as a mixture (CE + XY) in a 1:1 ratio. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and clonal typing of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli in healthy broilers in Turkey. Three hundred broiler cloacal samples were collected from various broiler slaughterhouses and inoculated on Levine agar plates supplemented with 2 μg/mL cefotaxime. Suspected strains were identified using a BBL Crystal Enteric/Nonfermenter ID Kit (Becton Dickinson, USA) and ESBL production was confirmed using an ESBL phenotypic confirmatory test. The present study was undertaken to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of pulmonary surfactant proteins (SP-A, SP-B, proSP-C) associated with proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), thyroid transcription factor-I (TTF-I), and lymphocytic phenotypes (CD3+ T and CD79αcy+ B cells) in ovine lungs with exudative and verminous pneumonia. Pneumonic lungs (n = 50) were classified as presenting fibrinous bronchopneumonia (n = 16), abscessing necrotic bronchopneumonia (n = 10), verminous pneumonia (n = 15), and interstitial pneumonia (n = 9). Hematological effects of etomidate and tricaine at concentrations causing general anesthesia or sedation of carp juveniles were compared. Recovery of body balance took similar time in the case of both anesthetics, but fish treated with etomidate were depressed for several hours, while those subjected to tricaine immediately regained normal behavior. Immediately after exposure anesthetics caused minor hematological changes; the only statistically significant effects (decrease of hematocrit and plasma glucose) occurred after sedation with etomidate. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of dietary vitamin D3 supplementation on changes in color and heme pigment (myoglobin and metmyoglobin) in 4 beef muscles. The current study describes the use of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein (IL-1Ra) as a possible strategy for optimizing tendon healing and repair by presenting histologically visible changes in rabbit Achilles tendon tissue after longitudinal tenotomy. The study was carried out on 26 Californian rabbits divided into two equal groups. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) plays a crucial role in the immune response to infectious diseases. The aim of the present study was to investigate the structural and functional characteristics and possible duplication of the MHC-DQA genes in the Chinese yakow, which is well adapted to the Qinghai?Tibetan Plateau. Two full-length cDNA sequences and partial 5'- and 3'-untranslated regions (UTRs) were retrieved and denoted as Bogr×BoLA-DQA*0101 (DQA1) and BogrxBoLA-DQA*2001 (DQA2), respectively. Tick-borne diseases are one of the most important classes of disease in animal husbandry and cause severe economic losses. In this study, 660 adult female ticks were collected from sheep in nine localities in Henan Province, China. All were identified as Haemaphysalis longicornis, confirmed with light microscopy and PCR amplification. The pathogens identified in these ticks included bacteria of the genus Anaplasma (Anaplasma ovis, A. bovis, A. phagocytophilum) and piroplasmal protozoans (Theileria luwenshuni, Babesia motasi). A number of mammals have been cloned, including cats and dogs. The purpose of this report was to study the bone fracture and bone fracture healing of three cloned dogs. The three cloned dogs, aged 3 months to 6 months, received separate surgeries. Clinical and radiological examination of each of the three cloned dogs revealed the fracture of a femur, a tibial tuberosity, and a humerus, respectively. Seaweeds contains different types of polysaccharides with high abilities. The aim of this study was to determine the potential of fucoidan polysaccharides for wound-healing properties. Fucoidans of two species of Padina (P. tetrastromatica and P. boergesenii), collected from the Persian Gulf northern coastal area, were extracted and analyzed using high-performance anion-exchange chromatography. Purified fucoidans were used to prepare a 2% topical ointment. Under aseptic conditions, two identical paravertebral full-thickness skin wounds (either by burn or excision) were made in 40 anesthetized male rats allocated into 4 groups. The effect of ketamine, a drug commonly used as an anesthetic, on monoaminergic neurotransmitters and GABA in neurocytes from fetal rats has not yet been elucidated. We thus decided to investigate these effects by first evaluating ketamine levels in the cerebrospinal fluid by high-performance liquid chromatography. We thus determined the concentrations of GABA, DA, NE, 5-HT, and 5-HIAA following the addition of four different concentrations of ketamine at day 7 of nerve cell culture. The present study was performed to determine the differences of some seminal plasma proteins, i.e., glutathione peroxidase 5 (GPX5) and fibronectin 1 (FN1), and some spermatozoa proteins, i.e., triosephosphate isomerase (TPI) and ACRBP (acrosin binding protein), in the boar semen having good and poor freezability. The study was conducted by including 38 ejaculates in seminal plasma study and 32 ejaculates from spermatozoa study from 27 boars (Duroc=13, Landrace= 8, Yorkshire= 6). This study aimed at examining the effects of different concentrations of hydroxyethyl starch (HES) on quality of equine sperm following cold storage and cryopreservation. In experiment 1, the semen was collected from 6 stallions (3 replicates). The semen was diluted with extender for cold storage containing different concentrations of HES (2.5%, 5%, 10% and 15%). Extender without HES (0% HES) served as a control group. The temperature of extended semen was gradually decreased to 4 ºC. The aims of the present study was to investigate factors associated with colostrum consumption of the neonatal piglets and determine the concentrations of total immunoglobulins G (IgG) and immunoglobulins A (IgA) against porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) virus in colostrum for sow.
