Streptococcus iniae infections developed in on-growing tilapia farms located in the northeastern and central regions of Thailand during 2003-2011. In the present study, S. iniae isolates recovered from diseased tilapia were investigated using biochemical, serological and molecular techniques. Biochemical characterization showed different profiles. The arginine dihydrolase (ADH) activity was distinctive between S. iniae, isolates obtained from the outbreaks in central region were ADH-positive (ADH+ve) while northeastern isolates were ADH-negative (ADH-ve). The serological assay demonstrated corresponding results to the ADH activity. Serotype I and serotype II were ascribed to the ADH+ve and ADH-ve isolates, respectively. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analyses were performed to compare techniques and to investigate genetic diversity as an epidemiological data of Thai M. hyosynoviae isolates. A total of 42 isolates including a type strain S16 was typable and consisted of 39 different patterns by RAPD technique, whereas 37 isolates (97%) were typable and consisted of 22 different patterns by PFGE technique. Based on PFGE patterns, multiple clones of M. hyosynoviae were generally present in pig farms, whereas high genetic heterogeneity of M. hyosynoviae among the pig farms was shown. Since Eimeria pachylepyron was firstly described in slow loris (Nycticebus coucang) in 1972, there has not been any reports of the disease throughout the world. An adult male 0.8 kg bw greater slow loris (Nycticebus coucang) had diarrhea, emaciation and dead. Severe necro-hemorrhagic jejunitis with the presence of coccidian protozoa and secondary bacterial septicemia were the causes of death. Endogenous stages of E. pachylepyron were detected exclusively in the jejunal enterocytes especially in the crypt of Lieberkühn. Mutation of the G6S gene in Anglo-Nubian (AN) goat causes non-function of the N-acetylglucosamide 6- sulfatase enzyme within lysosomes, which increases heparin sulfate accumulation and induces pathogenesis of the internal organs. Transversion of base C to T at nucleotide 322 changes decoding of an amino arginine to a stop codon (R322X) and produces a truncated protein. This mutation is detrimental to the health of a goat kid leading to delay in nervous development and death. Feline coronavirus (FCoV) infection manifests a wide magnitude of clinical symptoms from nonpathogenic mild enteric infection to pathogenic fatal feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Based on the in vitro properties and antigenic relationship to canine coronavirus (CCoV), FCoVs are classified into type I and II with different continent preference. We demonstrated the using of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS2) of ribosomal DNA as a tool for identification of medically and veterinary important Muscidae flies in Thailand. A total of 27 fly samples were collected from various regions of Thailand. Six fly species in three subfamilies including Azeliinae (Hydrotaea spinigera), Muscinae (Musca domestica, M. sorbens) and Stomoxyinae (Stomoxys calcitrans, S. indicus and S. sitiens) were identified base on morphological taxonomy. A seroepidemiological survey was carried out to investigate seroprevalence of Neospora caninum in swamp buffaloes from five provinces in north-eastern Thailand, and to compare infection status in swamp buffaloes and beef cattle at one area of Thailand. A single serum sample was collected from each of 532 swamp buffaloes and 78 beef cattle during January and July 2009. Antibodies against N. caninum were analyzed by a commercial ELISA test. Chisquare tests were used to compare the seroprevalence between species, gender and age groups in Khon Kaen. The purpose of this study is to detect Babesia canis by using 18S rDNA amplification in order to confirm thepresence of the agents and to characterize molecularly the Thai B. canis. Three sets of primers, a Babesia canis-specificprimer (BcSP), Piroplasm-specific primer (PSP) and Babesia species-specific primer (BsSP), were tested for sensitivity.The results showed that BcSP and PSP were 50 times more sensitive than BsSP. Both BcSP and PSP were specificenough to detect this parasite in asymptomatic dogs. Although neosporosis has long been detected in several wildlife species from different parts of the world,until now there has been no report of Neospora caninum infection in elephants in any country of the world. Serumsamples of 115 captive elephant (Elephas maximus indicus) from the westernmost province of Kanchanaburi, Thailandwere investigated for antibodies to N. caninum and Toxoplasma gondii. Antibodies of N. caninum were detected by thecompetitive ELISA (cELISA) test and T.gondii by the Latex agglutination (LAT) test. Bats are the reservoir hosts for several Paramyxoviruses including two serious zoonotic viruses, Hendra virus and Nipah virus which are responsible for fatal infections in animals and humans. These two viruses are sufficiently different from previously described Paramyxoviruses and are included in a new genus, Henipavirus. We report here a survey of cave-dwelling, insectivorous bats in Thailand for the presence of henipaviruses. Mosquito distribution and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infection were studied in a bat cave and its surrounding area in Lopburi province, central Thailand. Mosquitoes were collected from May 2009 to April 2010 by using CO2-baited CDC-light traps, and dry ice as a source of CO2 to attract mosquitoes. An isolate of Actinobacillus (A.) pleuropneumoniae from porcine tonsil samples was identified as serotype 15-like strain, which was previously isolated in Australia, North America and Japan. It was characterized by biochemical testing performed for Actinobacillus sp. and confirmed as A. pleuropneumoniae by PCR and nucleotide sequencing of 16s rDNA. The isolate contains apxIBD, apxIICA, apxIIIBD, apxIIICA and apxIVA gene. The result of PCR-REA of apxIVA method was identical as A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 15 strain HS143 reference strain. Canine heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) infection in stray dogs was studied by using parasitological (fresh blood smear, thin blood smear, thick blood smear, and modified Knott’s test) and serological methods. Blood samples were collected from stray dogs in Bangkok metropolitan area during 2006 and 2008. There were 10% (50/500) of stray dogs infected with D. immitis, which was indicated by using parasitological methods. Microfilaria levels were evaluated from 36 infected dogs and the range of microfilarial levels were between 17 and 78,417 microfilariae per milliliter of blood. Haemotrophic Mycoplasma is the obligatory bacteria formerly classified to the genus Haemobartonella. This blood mycoplasma is responsible for the cause of a cat disease, haemoplasmosis or feline infectious anemia (FIA). The housed cats evidenced by cachexia, high fever and a certain degree of anemic condition have been reported with FIA worldwide. However, this disease is only a presumptive case in Thailand where the disease is presumably endemic. We examined two cats suffering from FIA tested with the standard microscopic examination. Malignant catarrhal fever (MCF) is a highly fatal disease of ruminants which has not been extensively studied in Thailand. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical signs and pathological findings of MCFaffected buffaloes (n = 13), in the Nakhonpathom province of Thailand. All cases were collected between May 1996 and August 2000. Before the 1998 outbreak, four clinically normal sheep were moved into a pen adjacent to the buffaloes’ pens. The animals developed clinical signs of severe depression, anorexia, high fever, hypersalivation, and corneal opacity-associated excessive lacrimation. A 3-month-old, female calf in the Dontan district of Mukdaharn province, showed clinical signs of bloody diarrhoea over a period of 3 days and finally died on April 4, 2001. After necropsy, severe, diffuse, haemorrhagic caeco-colitis and proctitis were markedly evident. Histopathologically, various stages of coccidial development, including schizogony and gametogony, were found in the villous epithelium and the epithelial crypts. Thirty, one-day-old broilers were divided into 3 groups, 10 birds each. Group 1 was vaccinated twice with a live infectious bronchitis virus vaccine, (IBV)-serotype Massachusetts, strain H120 when one day old and a live IBV-strain Massachusetts vaccine when ten days old. Group 2 was vaccinated once with a live IBV-strain Massachusetts vaccine when ten days old. Group 3 were non-vaccinated controls. Blood samples were taken from birds on days 1, 10, 21, 28, 35 and 42. The objectives of embryo technologies development is to conserve the high genetic value swamp buffalo. Various fields of researches such as superovulation by gonadotropin hormone stimulation,. preimplantation embryonic development, embryo collection and transfer techniques, induction of twinning, cryopreservation of swamp buffalo embryos, follicular stimulation in prepubertal swamp buffalo calves and in vitro fertilization were well developped. Future studies in vitrification, embryo bank establishment, ovum pick up by ultrasounography and cloning technology are the field of interest in this species.

The paraffin embedded specimens of 35 Aujeszky's disease cases in pig were examined with Avidin-biotin-complex (ABC) method to detect Aujeszky's disease viral antigen. Eighty percent of the cases (28/35) gave positive reaction. Aujeszky's disease viral antigen was detected in cerebrum (17/28), cerebellum (12/17), medulla oblongata (7/8), spinal cord (4/4), and tonsils (5/11). It is concluded that ABC method is a sensitive, reliable and rather simple technique to diagnose Aujeszky's disease on paraffin embedded tissue section.
