Pathological and immunohistochemical changes in livers were investigated in monocrotaline-treated rats. Eighty adult-male Wistar rats were distributed in 5 groups, each containing 16 animals according to monocrotaline dose (Group I: 50 mg/kg, Group II: 100 mg/kg, Group III: 150 mg/kg, and Group IV: 200 mg/kg). The control group was administered with physiological saline. Half of the animals in each group were euthanized at the 18th hour while the remaining half at the 6th week postinoculation. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in the healing of experimentally created unicortical defect (UCD) of rat femurs. Twenty-four adult Wister rats were randomly divided into 2 groups: UCD and UCD+LLLT. The animals were subdivided into 3 groups (each group had 4 animals) and then they sacrificed at day 8, 15 and 22 for radiological, pathological and biochemical analysis. Bone healing was significantly different between the groups at day 15 and 22 (P < 0.05), while bone formation was significantly increased in the UCD+LLLT group at day 22 compared to the UCD group (P < 0.05). On histopathological examination, significant difference was found between the UCD and UCD+LLLT groups on the 22nd day (P < 0.05) while there was no difference on the 8th and 15th day. In the UCD group, the plasma Alkaline phosphatase activity decreased on the 15th and 22nd days, Calcium on the 15th day and Phosphorus on the 8th and 22nd days compared to the UCD+LLLT group. In addition, Glutathione levels, Plasma Catalase, Glutathione Peroxidase and Superoxide Dismutase activity significantly reduced in the UCD group compared with UCD+LLLT on the 8th, 15th and 22nd day (P < 0.05). In conclusion, LLLT applied at a dose of 904µm accelerates fracture healing in UCD of a rat’s femur. However, this effect shows an increase after the 22nd day of LLLT application.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of metabolic syndrome on spermatozoon morphology and histological, histochemical, histomorphometric changes in the testes. Twenty-four male Sprague Dawley rats (60 day-olds) were used for this purpose. The rats in the control group were fed only water and rat food, while the rats in the experimental group were fed with water containing 20% D-fructose and rats food for 16 weeks with ad libitum. This study was aimed to evaluated chemical sterilization using an intra-testicular injection of mannitol 20% in rats. Fifty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups, including 1) intact, 2) surgical castration and, 3 to 5) intra-testicular injections of normal saline, hypertonic saline, and mannitol, respectively. The baseline testosterone levels were measured. Surgical castration was performed in group 2. Intra-testicular injections were performed in groups 3, 4, and 5. Rat lungworm (Angiostrongylus cantonensis) is a zoonotic nematode that causes rat lungworm disease (angiostrongyliasis), a potentially debilitating form of meningitis, in humans worldwide. The definitive hosts for rat lungworm are primarily members of the genus Rattus, with gastropods as intermediate hosts. This parasite has emerged as an important public health concern in the United States, especially in Hawaii, where the number of human cases has increased in the last decade. The present study evaluated the expression of secretory proteins involving surfactant proteins (SP-A, SP-B, proSP-C), Clara cell secretory protein (CCSP), and thyroid transcription factor-I (TTF-I), together with lambda light chain IgG (λ-IgG), proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and lymphocytic phenotypes (T and B cells) in the pneumonic rat lungs. The most prominent gross lesion was severe pulmonary abscession. The lungs showed severe parenchymal destruction and necrosis encapsulated by fibrous tissue. Previous studies have shown that the electromagnetic field (EMF) emitted by cell phones decreased the number of neurons in some parts of the brain. It was also shown that caffeine protects the nerve cells. This study examines if caffeine has any effects on preventing neuron loss in rats exposed to EMF. Cypermethrin (CYP) is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide used commonly for the control of pests and vectors, and for protection of foodstuffs. In this study, the involvement of CB2 in CYP-induced liver damage in rats was investigated. CYP was applied to rats orally at a dose of 125 mg/kg bw per day for 14 days. Seaweeds contains different types of polysaccharides with high abilities. The aim of this study was to determine the potential of fucoidan polysaccharides for wound-healing properties. Fucoidans of two species of Padina (P. tetrastromatica and P. boergesenii), collected from the Persian Gulf northern coastal area, were extracted and analyzed using high-performance anion-exchange chromatography. We thus decided to investigate these effects by first evaluating ketamine levels in the cerebrospinal fluid by high-performance liquid chromatography. Our aim is to compare the effect of warm water infusion and air infusion enteroscopy on the success rate of colonoscopy in a rat model of colorectal cancer. 60 rats with colorectal cancer were divided into 2 groups: the air infusion (AI) group taking air infusion enteroscopy and the warm water infusion (WWI) group taking warm water infusion enteroscopy. Clastogenic and anticlastogenic effects of neem flower (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) extract were determined using a rat liver micronucleus assay. Methanol extracts of neem flowers (MENF) in 15% Tween 80 at 100 and 500 mg/kg body weight were orally given to male Sprague Dawley rats daily for 6 weeks (2 weeks prior to and 4 weeks during repeated administration of diethylnitrosamine (DEN). Three types of gentamicin beads were compared in a rat osteomyelitis model. The gentamicin beads were prepared in cylinder shape (diameter 2 mm x height 4 mm). Gentamicin impregnated polymethylmethacrylate (GIPMMA) beads were fabricated according to manufacturer’s instructions. Gentamicin coated native calcium sulfate (GNCS) bead and gentamicin coated high porous calcium sulfate (G-HPCS) bead were prepared in laboratory. Acute and subchronic tests on the toxicity and reproductive effects of aqueous ethanolic extract of rhizomes of Lasia spinosa Thw. was studied in male rats. In the acute test, oral administration of 5, 10, 20, 40 g/kg of the extract showed no mortality or behavioral changes. In the subchronic test, administration of 5 or 20 g/kg of the extract for 28 days revealed no mortality of the animals. The safety of ethanolic extract from the seeds of Moringa oleifera was evaluated for its oral toxicity by acute toxicity test and subchronic toxicity study in experimental animals. The acute toxicity test in mice showed that the extract at doses ranging from 5.1 to 10.0 g/kg caused toxic signs and dose dependent mortality. Oral administration of the extract in rats at doses of 100, 500 and 1000 mg/kg/day for 90 consecutive days revealed that male rats treated with the extract at 1000 mg/kg had a significant decrease in RBC but this alteration was within rats reference range. Moringa oleifera leaves have been reported to possess potential hypotensive and hypocholesterolemic andhypoglycemic activities; nevertheless toxicological data of this herb in animal models have still been scanty. Theobjective of this study was to evaluate both acute and chronic toxicity of the water extract of M. oleifera leaves by oraladministration.
