This study was conducted to detect polymorphisms of BPI gene exon 10 by PCR-RFLP in Meishan pigs and their associations with some important cytokine levels (IL-1ß, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, TGF-1ß, IFN-γ, TNF-α) and reproductive traits (total number born (TNB), number born alive (NBA), birth litter weight (BLW), and weaning litter weight (WLW)), with the aim of identifying effective genetic markers for molecular breeding. The results revealed three genotypes, including AA, AB, and BB, with the trend of AA > BB > AB in reproductive traits. The thymus is a primary lymphoid organ that provides the microenvironment required for the development of T lymphocytes. Thymic epithelial cells (TECs) are among the most critical components in the thymic microenvironment supporting thymocyte selection and maturation. Litter size is one of the most important economic traits for pig production as it is directly related to production efficiency. To evaluate the effects of the adiponectin (ADIPOQ) gene on porcine litter size, we investigated ADIPOQ polymorphisms in three breeds, Wannan Black pigs, Berkshire pigs, and BW pigs (crossbred pigs produced from mating male Berkshire pigs and female Wannan Black pigs), using the PCR-SSCP method. Three SNPs (c. 178G > A, c. 1165A > G, and c. 1138G > A) were identified. In order to find alternative feed additives to replace antibiotics for safe animal production, combinations of probiotics, oligosaccharides, and berberine were used in this study. Ninety 60-day-old pigs were assigned to 9 groups, with 10 pigs for each group. Group 1 was the control, group 2 had antibiotics added, and groups 3-9 had different levels of combinations added. The experimental period was 60 days. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of oxytocin treatment at the time of insemination on fertility and prolificacy of sows during the summer season (July and September). The study included 107 Polish Large White × Polish Landrace sows divided into 3 groups: C, control (without oxytocin); I, experimental (5 IU oxytocin administrated intramuscularly per sow, 2 min before insemination); and II, experimental (5 IU of oxytocin added into a 100-mL seminal dose, at the time of insemination). The palatine tonsils of 220 pigs were examined for the occurrence of Streptococcus suis and other Streptococcus species. Samples were cultured onto Colombia agar plates with 5% defibrinated horse blood and selective antibiotic supplement and were incubated at 37 °C for 24-48 h aerobically. Presumptive colonies were identified using API20 Strep (bioMérieux). S. suis was not detected in any of the 220 palatine tonsils examined. In order to determine the availability of fermented protein feedstuffs (FPFS)-such as cottonseed, blood, and feather meals—with Aspergillus oryzae, 2 phases of feeding experiments were adopted for 7 weeks. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae is the primary agent of enzootic pneumonia in pigs. The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence of M. hyopneumoniae in pigs raised in Turkey. Samples were obtained from the lungs of 286 pigs, which had already been separated from the carcasses at slaughter. Lung tissues were homogenized in 5 ml of Friis medium, the suspensions were inoculated into Friis medium, and then incubated at 37 °C until they developed an acid color change or for 21 days. The cardiopulmonary and clinical effects of the infusion of pentobarbital sodium in combination with fentanyl for long-term anaesthesia in 9 pigs were investigated. Pigs were premedicated with i.m. atropine at a dose of 0.05 mg/kg and azaperon at a dose of 2 mg/kg. General anaesthesia was induced with i.v. thiopental sodium at a dose of 3.3 mg/kg. After induction of anaesthesia, the pigs were intubated and supplied with oxygen during anaesthesia.
