Four male goats aged 10-12 months showing clinical signs of leptospirosis out of a herd of 90 goats in the province of Elazığ were used in this study. Having performed a systematic clinical examination of the sick animals, blood samples were taken from v. jugularis for heamatological (total leucocytes, erythrocytes, haemoglobin and PCV), biochemical (blood glucose, plasma proteins, albumin, globulin, total, direct and indirect bilirubin, aspartate amino transferase, urea and creatinin) and serological (microscopic agglutination test, MAT) analysis. Intramuscular penicillin+streptomycine, subcutaneous 40% urotropin solution and oral ammonioum chloride were administered daily. Two of the sick animals died while the other …

Enterotoxaemia Incidence In Small Ruminants In Elazığ And The Surrounding Provinces In 1994-1998, Canan Özcan, Meti̇n Gürçay
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
132 intestine specimens belonging to small ruminants with suspected enterotoxaemia were sent to the Elazig Veterinary Control and Research Institute from Elazığ and the surrounding provinces in 1994-1998. In bacteriological examinations, it was found that 51 of the 132 specimens were positive and 81 negative. The toxin-neutralisation test was applied for diagnosis. The 51 enterotoxaemia cases were identified as 28 C.welchii Type D, 16 C.welchii Type C, 7 C.welchii Type A.

Pathological Findings In The First Case Of Caprine Paratuberculosis (Johne's Disease) In Elazığ, Erkan Karadaş, Nursal Meti̇n, İhsan Yaman
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Caprine paratuberculosis (Johne's disease) was diagnosed according to pathomorphological findings in a 5-year-old indigenous female hairy goat in ElazİÛ. Diagnosis was confirmed by demonstration of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (M.a. paratuberculosis) in the intestinal smears and tissue sections stained with the Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) method, and also detection of specific M.a. paratuberculosis DNA by the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).

Diagnosis Of Ovulation Rate And Embriyonal, Foetal Development By Transrectalultrasonography In The White Goats, Di̇lek Arsoy Başaran
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this study was to check the ovulation rate, early pregnancy diagnosis, and the number of embryos and foetuses, and embryonic and foetal development using either FGA with a low dose PMSG(250 I.U.) or FGA without of PMSG in 2.5- 5.5-year-old white goats (Saanen X Kilis).Transrectal ultrasonography with a 5-7.5 MHz linear probe was used 7, 26, 33, 40, 50 and 57 days after mating. The ovulation rate was determined by the counting of corpora lutea in both of the ovaries 7 days after mating. The ovulation rate at day 7 in the PMSG group was (SE±)10.833±0.79, and …

In this study, the etiology of ovine and caprine abortions was investigated bacteriologically, serologically and pathologically. Tissue samples collected from aborted sheep and goats in Elazığ and its borders were examined bacteriologically and pathologically for brucellosis, campylobacteriosis, salmonellosis and listeriosis. In addition, blood samples collected from aborted sheep and goats were examined by serological tests for the presence of antibodies to these bacteria. Of 110 aborted fetuses, in 22 (20%) Brucella melitensis, in 5 (4.5%) Campylobacter fetus subsp. fetus, in 4 (3.6%) Salmonella abortus ovis, in 1 (0.9%) Listeria monocytogenes and in 3 (2.7%) E. coli were isolated and identified. …
