Paclitaxel Enhances Oncolytic Potential Of Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 In Cancer Cells, Misagh Naderi

LSU Master's Theses

Taxanes are spindle poisons that bind to and stabilize microtubules resulting in mitotic arrest. Herpes simplex Typ-1 (HSV-1) virions utilize the microtubular network for intracellular transport during both virus entry and virus egress from infected cells. It has been reported previously that taxanes may synergize with oncolytic herpes simplex viruses in the treatment of experimental prostate and breast tumors in mice. Other reports have indicated that taxanes may inhibit viral replication in infected cells. In this study the previously characterized Oncolytic Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (OSVP), which was constructed in Kousoulas lab was used in conjugation with paclitaxel (taxol) …

BACKGROUND: Reported response rates of transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) in dogs to piroxicam in combination with either mitoxantrone or carboplatin are similar; however, it is unknown whether either drug might provide superior duration of response. HYPOTHESIS/OBJECTIVES: To determine if the progression-free interval (PFI) of dogs with TCC treated with mitoxantrone and piroxicam was different than that of dogs receiving carboplatin and piroxicam. The hypothesis was that the efficacy of mitoxantrone is no different from carboplatin. ANIMALS: Fifty dogs with TCC without azotemia. METHODS: Prospective open-label phase III randomized study. Either mitoxantrone or carboplatin was administered every 3 weeks concurrently with …

Study On Efficacy Of Inermectin Against Gnathostoma Spinigerum (Nematoda : Spiruroidea Advanced Third Stage Larva In Rats), J. Waikagul, S. Nuamtanong, M.T. Anantaphruti, S. Nithiuthai Jun 1991

Study On Efficacy Of Inermectin Against Gnathostoma Spinigerum (Nematoda : Spiruroidea Advanced Third Stage Larva In Rats), J. Waikagul, S. Nuamtanong, M.T. Anantaphruti, S. Nithiuthai

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Gnathostomiasis is one of the fatal nematode infections which at present effective chemotherapy is unavailable. Recently, ivermectin has been reported to be highly effective against intestinal and tissue nematodes. The efficacy against advanced third stage larvae of G. spinigerum of ivermectin were tested in the white rats with a single dose or multidoses of 2 mg/kg. Worm reductions observed at week 20 after treatment were about 90 % in average but there was no cure rate.
